A great bargain of two 20 litre dry sacks. They are exactly what the description suggested, lightweight ripstop material, a good cuff with sturdy clips. The orange colour is VERY bright, ideal if you need to wip them out and make a rescue flag/float. Would definitely recommend
The first thing to say about these dry bags is that they are definitely orange. They’re really bright and won’t be hard to spot. They are well sewn and the top fixing is well attached. They close with a roll top and buckle, as is normal for this type of dry bag. There were no problems with the buckles, which were easy to close and open and the attachment point also has a handy ring to help attach the bag to other straps or objects.
They are made from polyester which isn’t waterproof on its own but it feels like it’s been treated with a durable, water repellent coating. Whilst this may wear off over time it is a relatively easy task to reactivate the coating or apply a top up coating should it be needed. The density of the weave also aids considerably to the waterproof qualities.
The other notable point is that all the seams, even the one around the base, are taped. I have other dry bags that purport to be waterproof but that do not have taped seams and so can allow water through the stitching holes. Taping the seams really does help prevent this from happening. The other advantage of polyester is its light weight, when compared with true waterproof materials such as PVC which are much heavier.
Initially I inflated the bags with air, closed the roll top and squeezed the bags to see if there was any deflation of the bag. I can report that there was no deflation so the bags are air tight. Fortunately we have had a considerable amount of rain this morning so I’ve packed the bags with kitchen roll, closed them up and left them out in the rain for 30 minutes. I can report that the rain beaded on the outside of the bags and the kitchen roll within remained dry.
At 20 litres in capacity they are very useful for a number of functions that makes use of their waterproof property. Firstly they will be great as a waterproof liner for a day pack to keep the contents of your pack protected from any water ingress through the outside of your pack. Secondly they’ll be great for keeping damp or wet items separate from items that need to remain dry within a larger pack. So if, for example, you need to pack away a damp tent but keep the moisture away from a sleeping bag. Conversely, in this example, they could be used to keep the sleeping bag dry within the ruck sack. It all depends on how you wish to organize the contents of your bag.
I think they are very reasonably priced at 13.99 at the time of this review (February 2024) considering their size and that you get 2 of them. Given all of the above I can firmly recommend them if they are of the size required and I hope you have found this review helpful.
These two orange bags are lightweight and even though they are sized as ‘Small’ on their tags they are a fair size and you can get plenty in them. The listing states they are 20 Litre and ‘full’ they measure about 35-40cm tall.
They do have a logo on them, ‘Bluefield’, which is not shown on the listing.
They are lightweight and thin polyester with a taped seam at the bottom. I did test them, fully submerging them for about half and hour, and they did stay fully dry inside. Seems a fair price for two working, mid size, dry bags though personally I would prefer them without such bold branding on.
