Powerextra NP-FW50 Battery with USB Type-C Fast Direct
Powerextra NP-FW50 Battery with USB Type-C Fast Direct Charging Rechargeable Battery for Sony A7S II, A7R II, ZV-E10, A7, A7S, A7R, A6400, A6500, A6300, A5000, A5100, A6000 Camera (1500mAh 2 pcs)
These came in really handy at a recent shoot. I was able to charge them nice and quickly from a power bank without having to worry about whether I would have a plug socket available or not. They did charge relatively fast and the capacity is pretty good albeit a little under the genuine sony battery. Would definitely recommend them though for emergency use.
I’ve got a couple of Sony cameras that take these style batteries and it can get quite difficult if you forget to charge the batteries before going out. These are good as you don’t need a charging hub to charge these up. The battery has a usb attachment built in which means you can connect ir straight to a power bank.
I got these batteries for my Sony DSC-10. These batteries actually fit and lock into the battery compartment just as the original ones. Considering the cost of most of these batteries, these are a much more affordable option. Granted they may not last as long and I couldn’t possibly comment on their longevity.
The USB C charging port is very convenient as the direct charge interface is efficient and saves me the hassle of constantly plugging and unplugging. The compact and lightweight design makes it a must-have for travel. Whether I’m shooting outdoors or on the go, I can charge my battery anytime, anywhere. It’s super practical!
The LED indicator on the battery provides a visual representation of the current charging status. When the device is plugged in and charged, the LED light will display a certain colour or pattern, depending on the device model. As the charging progresses, the LED light will also change accordingly, indicating the percentage of battery life that has been restored. This feature makes it incredibly convenient for users to keep track of their charging progress and determine when their device is fully charged and ready for use.
All in all for the asking price these batteries are a cost-effective solution. They work just as well as the original ones.
Direct charge is nice as I dont have to carry an additional charger and can just plug it into my phone charger.
Seem to work OK but capacity not great when filming so not coping great with the higher drain application of that from what I can tell during usage. For photography though it should be fine.
Charge indicator isn’t much use to check the status of the current charge, but then I usually just check this in camera anyway. Not too great but not bad and generally does what it says it should.
The Powerextra NP-FW50 Battery is slightly heavier than the Sony original (42g) at 46g, along with a higher claimed capacity of 1500 mAh compared to 1020 mAh, Powerextra state that the battery is fully decoded for Sony Cameras, but this isn’t an issue with my ZV-E10 (but is with my A6700), so should work with cameras that throw an error message if other than Sony original (and a couple of other good manufacturers) battery is inserted.
I ran both flat a couple of times, then recharged (I’ve not used the splitter lead yet, but that may get a workout at the end of April) and found the run-time to be 10-15 minutes greater than the Sony – only time will tell if this stays the same.
There is a tiny LED next to the USB C socket that glows red when charging, changing to green when charged, it is bright when looked at directly, but still visible from an angle.
Not a lot more to say, really. As with all 3rd party accessories, performance over time defines their value. But, today, no complaints, they work well and a seperate charger isn’t required to use them.
In my opinion, worth a look.
The dual batteries charge well and have a long battery life compared to others I have used.
The build quality is good and the accessories means charging is easy and convenient.
However the big downside for me apart from the price is the fact that it only has one LED, there is no way of knowing how much battery life is left.
Also at 35 it is on the expensive side compared to others available which do the same / better job.
Initially sent a complimentary set of batteries and charger for review. Delighted to report after a weekend event, snapped nearly 500 photos with 10% power remaining—quite remarkable. These batteries outperform the Sony OEM, at half the cost. With such exceptional performance, I wholeheartedly recommend them.
Having ordered a bunch of these for various of my cameras from a different manufacturer when these were offered for me to test and review I jumped at the chance, particularly as I am off on holiday from Friday and my Sony isn’t the best at conserving batteries so the more the merrier.
Charging isn’t fast, the manufacturer states 3 hours to charge both up to 100% though I did manage it in around 2 hours first time which I attribute to them arriving partially charged.
A dual cable is supplied so both can be charged together from a single port.
I haven’t used them extensively yet, but on a photowalk yesterday I took 33 shots with the camera reporting no drop in charge which does bode well as my OEM batteries would have lost a bar by this stage, though they are old so can be forgiven.
So far, so good.
PROS
-they work fine in my Gen 1 and 2 Sony A7x cameras
-1500mWh capacity, more than a competing USB-C rechargeable battery I have, more than my original Sony batteries, but less than some other 3rd party batteries I have (but these require a separate charger)
-The dual USB-C cable is really handy
-contrary to what image 3 of the listing states, I found that I could charge both batteries (using their own dual-head USB cable) at 5V 1.8A (this is almost double the amps the listing says they could take)
-I always appreciate these newer batteries, which I can charge directly with USB-C. It lightens the load a bit, not having to bring a charger on trips.
CONS
-only a single LED to indicate charging/capacity state. Would’ve been a lot nicer to have 3 or 4, so I could tell at a glance how much charge was left
MY STAR RATINGS:
1* substandard, mostly cons
2** barely acceptable, cons outweigh the pros
3*** meets the basic requirements, cons balance the pros
4**** good product, pros outweigh the cons
5***** exceptional, all (or almost all) pros
It feels like a necessary item to have for your camera! I use this for my Sony Alpha ZV-E10 and whenever I’m low on battery, I know I can quickly and easily swap them out and also charge at the same time while I continue using the camera.

Recommend this product / seller. Item was well packaged and delivered very promptly. Quality is good, very easy to use and no compatibility issues with my Sony A6000, A7II and A7RII Cameras. Not expecting any problems with durability but only usage over longer period will determine this. Very happy with product and service.
A small compact battery charger. Great when on the go with your camera. If you have a power charger you can recharge your batteries while on the move. So pleased with this item no more worries about batteries running out when I am out and about shooting pics.
Only 18 months old and hardly used due to lockdown. Now won’t take a charge so will have to replace. Not impressed to be honest. The original Sony one has no issues and even though these are cheap they should still last more than 30 odd cycles at the most.
