I usually lean towards Smallrig for this type of stuff. Even Nitze. But I wanted a small attachment that could allow my Atomos Shinobi 7 inch monitor to attach securely and knowing payloads decrease when we use the tilt function, it had to be a higher payload than that of the equipment weight (577 g or 1.7 pounds) PLUS THOSE HEAVY NPF BATTERIES.
I first used a Smallrig 2906. Beautiful piece. It worked, until the tilt. At a listed 2.5 kg payload it wasn’t enough. I then went with a Smallrig 3875 Magic Arm. This did the trick. Handles the weight with the batteries even when there’s a tilt. The drawback is it’s a bit large and clunky. But I can live with it. I also tried an IFootage MA3-4 Magic Arm. Outstanding stability at any angle. But again the size being even larger than the Smallrig 3875, we’re only getting bigger.
I took a chance on the Sirui AM-MTN Camera Monitor Holder with its crazy listed payload of over 15 pounds. How can that be? Ok, so I ordered it and found it was similar in size to the Smallrig 2906. Heavier though. When i installed it I tightened it up and placed two of those big square shaped NPF batteries on the Shinobi. Fascinating how this little gadget holds all that bulk and weight. I gave it a good 45 degree tilt and fiddled with the clamps and structure. It feels like this Sirui Monitor Holder wasn’t breaking a sweat. More so, it feels like it could handle more weight. Amazing.
OK, bottom line; if it lasts, holds up in the long term, then this is one heck of a monitor holder. Probably the best in its size I’ve seen.
Just to close, it has an unusual gun metal colour, so it is really nice looking. It feels well built and engineered. No different in that regard (build) from Smallrig.
I can’t help but recommend this piece for heavy loads. It is no August, 2024. If it fails me I promise I will update this review. But if you see no negatives of it breaking down, that means it’s still working. I’m a hobbyist, but I use my stuff nearly everyday. photography is a huge part of my life. This small attachment will get its time in immediately and often. For now, this is a home run.
Recommended.
Ya tengo un par de accesorios de la marca y era justo la calidad de materiales que buscaba, incluso un poco mejor ya que siento mucha seguridad para montar mi monitor de manera rpida.
The grip is comfortable but not compatible the A7-CT cage if you want to mount it on the left. Disappointed that they don’t make their products compatible with each other. Should describe it as left or right mount when it only fits the right. Considering returning this to get a different brand that works with my cage. Might even return the cage too.
UPDATE: After communicating with the manufacturer, they offered to send me a different model (side handle model SC-SH to try. I must say this model work’s great as a left hand mount for the AM-A7-CT cage. Had I known about the SC-SH, I would have bought that the first time.
The original handle I purchased (AM-SHS) is actually a comfortable handle and is lightweight. Both models come with an allen wrench that stores in the handle. I like the mounting options they offer to add other devices.
I decided to keep the cage and use the SC-SH with it. If you use the AM-A7-CT cage for the Sony A7RV, consider getting the SC-SH handle for left handed mounting. I was assured by the manufacturer that they will review the design of the AM-SHS to ensure compatibility with their line of products.
The communication from the manufacturer and their efforts to help resolve my issue was better than other companies (one reason why I returned my SmallRig cage because i had an issue and they never got back to me). I have several Sirui products and will continue to purchase their products for my camera needs.
Calidad/precio inmejorable. El agarre es casi perfecto. Vengo del smallrig mini (el bsico) y la diferencia es brutal y no molesta el “hierro” que va del mango a la cmara. Volvera a comprar.
I has smallrig, neewer and no name brand monitor holders. None of them was as solid as this one. Even with a NPF970 mounted to the screen the screen won’t budge until you loosen the handle screw. Perfect. Will buy 2 more .
I had a bad experience with the other company so I wanted to give my money to someone else and I’m glad I did. Sirui is a hidden gem. I was amazed at the quality and range of adjustments, plus they threw in the NATO rail. Since this purchase, I’ve done a bit of research on Surui and will be considering their products products first from now on.
