These things really worry me as I always feel like I am about to chop my finger off!
But, that point aside, this works very well. I have only used it to make chips so far and it worked very well for that. It is very sharp and the holder part makes it less likely that I will lose a finger.
I also found this easy to clean with most parts going through the dishwasher.
Sharpness and Slicing Capabilities:
The mandolin is fairly sharp, making it effective for julienning and slicing various items like vegetables. It performs well in these areas, delivering consistent and even slices. However, the box description suggests that it can also be used for grating, which I found to be misleading. When I attempted to grate cheese, it ended up slicing and cubing it instead of producing the fine, grated texture I was expecting.
Ease of Use:
Once you get the hang of it, the mandolin is relatively easy to use. The learning curve isn’t too steep, and it becomes more intuitive with practice. It’s a handy tool for quickly prepping vegetables, especially if you’re looking to achieve uniform slices.
Design and Storage:
One of the features I particularly like is the storage box that comes with the mandolin. The box has a non-slip bottom, which keeps it stable during use, and a fitted plastic lid that helps keep sliced vegetables fresh in the fridge. The mandolin, along with a standard rectangular grater, fits neatly into the box, making it a convenient all-in-one solution for food prep and storage.
Safety and Cleaning:
The mandolin comes with a brush for cleaning, which is a nice touch, as it helps you safely remove food particles from the sharp blades. Speaking of safety, it’s important to be cautious when using and cleaning the mandolin, as the blades are quite sharp.
Conclusion:
Overall, this mandolin slicer is a useful kitchen tool for slicing and julienning, but it falls short when it comes to grating. The design is practical, with a non-slip storage box that doubles as a container for storing sliced veggies. It’s easy to use once you get accustomed to it, but just be mindful of the sharp blades when handling and cleaning it. If you’re primarily looking for a slicer with some convenient storage options, this mandolin is a solid choice, but if grating is a priority, you might want to consider a different tool.
I’ve tried a couple of mandolin slicers and this is the best one I’ve had so far. It’s lovely and safe to use, and the 3 blades give enough options for salads and other slices – I especially like it for air fryer crisps and gratin. Cleaning is OK but the blades are – necessarily – terrifyingly sharp! The non-slip base is a good option but I find a large wooden chopping board easier to use. But the best thing about it is that your fingers get nowhere near the blades, and being a clumsy swine, it’s just perfect for me!
Love this! Makes perfectly sliced chips in literally 1 second. Time saver and just so handy to grate and chop etc. Easy to use, attachments clip into place and spares in a neat little plastic case
I’m a chef but have bad hands, got lots of mandolins but wanted a chopper, especially for onions. Peel cut in 1/2 and use this, awesome !!
Not tried it to chop carrots etc yet but it’s perfect for what I want it fo
