Wanted a small fryer to replace my bigger old one. This will fry enough chips for 2 people. We are a family of 4 but have a small kitchen. I am happy with it, i fry in 2 batches which doesnt take that long for frozen chips. Easy to keep clean and doesnt take up much worktop space.
The fryer is compact and light. Easy to clean. Does take over 1.5 litre of oil!!
The frying basket is naturally small but enough. The downside is the lid does not come off even though the manual says it does!!
I was a little apprehensive reading some of the reviews of this product, so I was definitely surprised and happy with it when it arrived and used a couple of times.
My main reason for buying the item was I needed a smaller chip fryer as we are only 2, and something that can fit into my already full to the brim cupboards.
This little chip fryer was perfect for that. I read comments that the fryer only cooks one portion but to me that’s an extra large portion of chips from the fish and chip shop that is something I usually share. So in effect in can easily cook 2 portions of restaurant sized portions not fish and chip shop large portions.
Yes the window does steam up so you can’t really see the chips but no hardship opening and lifting the tray to view the chips.
The lines inside the unit clearly mark the oil capacity. If you overfill the oil it will overspill. Otherwise no spillage. Found this out first use, no issues on second or third use.
It’s so easy to clean to. After use I simple fill the unit with soapy water after I’ve removed the oil, and let it soak for a while, then pour out, and with the damp sponge wipe clean.
I love the way the handle can easily detach and be placed inside the tray with the unit, and how the cable also fits into the handle area, so when putting away can easily store inside, very compact.
Yes the basket can bend, but not sure why you’d deliberately try and push it? I literally just take it out, and soak in a bowl, job done.
To remove the oil I simply pour the out into a funnel and back into my chip oil bottle. You can use the oil again a number of times depending on the oil you use. I just literally tilt the unit down into my funnel and pour from the corner down. Simple.
Great little fryer. Definitely recommend for a couple or single person who just wants to fry chips.
I did my first chips last night and they were excellent. Heated up quickly and they happily fried along until crispy and delicious. For me, there is easily room for two portions, so great value for money!
I have only been using this particular frier for a month or so – I hope it’s not too early for a review. I am a registered Trust Pilot Guide and am happy to say that this frier has given me home made chips that are beautiful. This will in 1 go cook enough chips for 2 people. It is a good size because cooking oil is expensive and has to be changed regularly – the unit is properly sized and filling with oil is economically justified. If you wish to cook for a family of more than 2 at the same time you may want to go for the next size up. In a nutshell this is a single persons unit all around. Cooking for 1 ( or 2 ) is no problem for this frier. I without reservation give this frier 10 out of 10 for functionality and looks too. It’s nice.
This fryer is fine for small portions of chips and compact things like samosas, scampi, onion bhajis and falafel. It saves on oil compared with a larger fryer. However, it doesn’t have enough width to take an average battered cod or haddock fillet. I bought some fresh fish fillets to batter myself and had to cut them in half to fit in the fryer; not ideal. For an authentic fish & chips meal I’ll use my larger fryer and keep this one for smaller items. It’s a little awkward to tip out the cooled oil for filtering, so I ladle out most of the oil first and wipe the oil pan thoroughly with kitchen roll.
The basket is 6 inches by 6 inches wide, 3.5 inches deep.
It’s literally only big enough for one person.
Won’t fit a long piece standard piece of battered cod. Those Gastro ones for instance. It’ll fit a small batch of chips, chicken tenders and a few onion rings. Not that big at all. Perfect if you don’t eat much and don’t want to spend alot on oil. I got this fat fryer, because I crave good old fashioned fried foods. Air fryers are good but sometimes a bit of grease doesn’t hurt!!!!
I’ve used this 3 times now and I forgot how good deep fat fryers are, since I’ve been using an air fryer for so long …but I doubt I’ll ever cook chips, wedges or chicken strips in an air fryer again.
It is better designed than the Russell Hobbs one that I had to return which was double the price.
This one is sturdy and is easy to clean. I keep the lid down on mine while cooking, checking every few minutes and it’s been fine. It does get condensation, but it helps filter the grease and keep it off the walls and tile.. I don’t wanna look up at my walls and tiles in a month and see a layer of grease. I also put my cooker hood on full. I don’t have windows in my kitchen so it’s a must in my situation.
You won’t find a deep fat fryer where the main bowl comes out, not for under 100+ quid. This is lightweight and easy to manoeuvre.
It will fit in any small kitchen. On the side or in a cupboard. It holds about 1.2 litres of oil. There’s a min and max line so you know. I bought Canola oil from Amazon. Sunflower, vegetable, rapeseed or peanut oil will work too. You can’t use lard, but who would want to??!!
I like it so far. If you are scrolling trying to figure out which deep fat fryer to buy. You’ll see that there’s only about 3 designs. All taken by different companies. This square Swan one was a good deal at 23.
If it’s just for you or for a friend on their own. I definitely recommend this design.
Hope this helps! Remember to wipe the tiles down after use, coz grease will build up on the walls quick. Best used under a cooker hood if you can.
Enjoy!
