These cameras are brilliant. Only down side is you cant turn the alarm volume down. So most of the time the alarm is turned off. But they are easy to install and picture quality is brilliant.
The tapo range of camera are super easy to install, the two pack was a bargain of a price. Works well in both light and dark with the IR illumination. Great picture quality, you can use either a SD card to record or use the payed service to get alerts to the phone. Would recommend to anyone needing alittle extra security
The image quality is great and it is very easy to pick out fine details in video and stills, the night time images are in IR but they are still clear and bright.
The cameras are mains powered so you will need to think about positioning the camera near to a power source, the only down side to me is the power lead has a data connection which I don’t use and it is in the way so I sealed it in insulation tape to waterproof it from the elements.
All in a great security camera camera, even better if you can get it in the sales.
Installation is fairly easy as long as you have tools to get cables through walls (16 inch masonry drill bit) which luckily I have.
So best to install the app as per the instructions which are straightforward and easy.
From the app installation instructions are very easy.
Picks up Wi-Fi no problem, which to be honest was my main concern. But first one installed was in a high and position 15 metres and 2 brick walls away from my router and still picked up Wi-Fi easily.
Fitting is straightforward with a template included in the instructions for drilling mounting holes.
There is as well as the power supply cable a cable for router connection, quite big and bulky. Rather than cut cables, I fitted a waterproof junction box alongside and sealed everything to make watertight.
Performance so far is excellent, particularly like that each camera can be set independently to pick up in different modes. (Ie-motion detect-human detect etc)
Microphone pick up for sound with video is excellent.
Video recording is very good
Night vision (black and white) also very good
Have continuous loop recording to card, also easy to set up.
Human detection is excellent and app notifications are very quick
Not much in negatives really just some obvious weaknesses.
Two way communication through the camera is a little weak as the speaker is very small
Because the angle of view is just over 100 degrees, you’ll have to mount quite high to get good coverage
Result of high mounting is some loss of resolution, but still acceptable.
DIY fitting is easy except for the power lead to through a wall. But it is slim enough to fit through a closed window without damage to lead or warping window
Overall would happily buy again and provides value for money.
I got these since there’s been a few break ins around where I live. They are amazing! The video is clear night or day I even use them to keep an eye on my kids when they play out. You can set intruder areas which is great so they don’t go off constantly only if someone come within that area. Husband said they were easy to put up and you can pay monthly to store all recordings for 30 days just download anything you need
I’ll be honest, the Tapo system has drawn me in. Having started with energy monitoring, I’ve now added these cameras and subsequently some smart bulbs too.
The cameras were so easy to set up. Although wireless worked perfectly, I have ended up connecting both to ethernet. One is mounted indoors and the other screwed to barge board under my guttering. In both cases I drilled through so no wires can be seen which makes it neat.
I ordered some extension power leads so that I could place where I wanted but for most I’m sure the power cable is long enough! I just wanted to run the cable in hidden areas.
Top quality.
These are quite good cameras & daylight images are excellent, night time not so good…
Detection accuracy is very good as are notifications, we have now replaced our older cameras with these so all are on the same app (no fees as we use SD cards) and are delighted
I’m very pleased with them and they are excellent value and quality for the money
Motion detection is generally good but you do have to play with the various settings and activity zones to get what you want, depending on where it is located and how busy it is in the area.
The real bonus for me is the use of local storage for video clips which means that you can use an SD card plugged into the camera and then access video from anywhere. This means no subscription to pay although it is available if you need more settings etc.
Had this camera for some time now, and considering its cost it is a very good unit. My only criticism is that if you change internet provider ,you have to reset the camera via a ridiculous small plate with the smallest screws ever . Not very convenient if you have mounted it up high. Picture quality great, we leave ours on day vision all the time and even at night it is clear ,car headlights do cause a problem even on night vision ,something all CCTV suffers from. Would recommend.
Good quality video.
Motion and person alerts work well (motion is probably too sensitive even when put on lowest setting).
Good search with microsd card installed (note doesn’t come with it).
You should note that the unit uses a transformer power lead which requires a socket (if intending to power from exisitng external lights) and not the longest cable. Otherwise great bit of kit at a great price.
I got these to put outside my house for extra security. They were easy to install and work well. Only issue is I get line intrusion when no one has crossed the line so a bit sensitive but beter like that not.
The cameras work really well in both daylight and darkness, giving a good field of view and high quality picture. The App is easy to use and everything is connected automatically to Alexa.
When I changed my WiFi router recently, I had difficulty reconnecting the cameras. The Tech Support from Tapo was fantastic. They tried to give me detailed instructions via email, but when that was unsuccessful, they called me at a prearranged time and talked me through the troubleshooting (very patiently and politely!) until the problem was resolved. Cannot give high enough praise – thank you, Carlie.Hu!
Highly recommend Tapo!
