The c3 pro grinder is really good. Paired with a 30lbs automatic tamper you’ll be well on your way to better coffee. (I’ve yet to get a precision basket).
Although it has specific notches for it’s settings, ie minimum of seven clicks for espresso, you can also use this incrementally ie, 1/2 and even 1/4 turns. The spring will hold exactly where you leave the dial. Whilst researching I found a post on Reddit that said you add two clicks and turn the dial half way and you get a 0.5 incremental setting. So if you want a 5.5 grind you set it to 7.5. If you want 5.25 set it to just under 7.5. The dial sits exact where you leave it. So 4.5 would be 6.5 clicks and so on. Obviously make sure the burrs don’t touch. I doubt anyone would need lower than a 3 using this on a home machine. The only downside to this I found was from around 3 to 4.5 took forever to grind, but; when dialing in with a calibrated tamper it made all the difference and resulted in some impressive shots that without a calibrated tamper would always block the basket.
The TIMEMORE Chestnut C3s PRO is a manual coffee grinder that truly stands out with its exceptional design and functionality. Upgraded with an integrated all-metal body and a sleek white finish, it is both stylish and durable, making it a great addition to any kitchen. The folding handle is a thoughtful feature, adding convenience and ease of storage, which is particularly appreciated in smaller kitchens.
Both my girlfriend and I have fallen in love with this grinder. She enjoys the precision it brings to her coffee-making routine, allowing her to effortlessly grind beans to the perfect consistency for everything from espresso to French press. The consistent grind quality has noticeably improved the flavor and aroma of our coffee, making each cup a delightful experience. It’s not just a tool; it’s a key part of our morning ritual.
We both appreciate the excellent craftsmanship and performance of the TIMEMORE Chestnut C3s PRO. It’s clear that this grinder is built to last, with its robust all-metal construction and smooth operation. Using it feels satisfying and rewarding, knowing we are making the most of our coffee beans. For any coffee enthusiast looking to elevate their brewing process, this grinder is a fantastic investment that promises great results and an enjoyable coffee-making experience.
This Chestnut C3 manual coffee grinder would make a good gift for a coffee lover. It comes in a strong box – ideal for gifting.
The body of the grinder is made of aluminium so quite robust with an engraved surface which helps with your grip on the grinder. The grinder part (the burrs) is made of stainless steel and looks like quality materials. It is really easy to use. You can get the exact coarseness of grinding that you need, making the grounds suitable for a range of coffee makers from the french press, pour over coffee to espresso. This is achieved by differing numbers of clicks on the grind setting. For a traveller, this could be a good option if using a stove top coffee pot as it’s easily transportable.
This new model offers the updated 38 mm conical steel burr set with new ‘spike to cut’ technology, which claims to enhance both consistency of grinds and as the body of the grinder is quite small, it fits well in the hand and can be held securely. Also it has an anti-slip base. The one area for me that lets it down is the handle that has a spring mechanism to get the metal sleeve to slide over the joint and keep the handle unfolded. This looks good but feels a little flimsy and not sure if this will last. The best option would have been to have a separate handle that screws on and has less chance of failing. Also the spring mechanism can catch your fingers so be careful.
The extremely sharp burrs and the long handle make the job to grind with precision easy, without having to apply any force. It requires a bit more effort of course than an electric grinder but it feels like there is more control in the grinding, which I prefer. The handle is foldable so handy for storage in the supplied storage bag.
The cleaning seems straight forward and a handy brush is supplied.
Price seems good at 79.20 (currently with limited time deal -at the time of writing this review) plus a further 5% voucher taking it to 75.24. It may seem pricey to some, but good value as it looks like a fairly good product – as long as it lasts the distance.
I’ve been using the Timemore C2 for a year now, it’s my first grinder. It it is really efficient and feels like a premium product. It is very reasonably priced.
I got this about 8 months ago and I was pleasantly surprised when it arrived but wondered if it would last. I’ve used it regularly since I got it and I still love it. There’s several settings for coarseness and it’s easy to use. I use it for my moka pot and I’ve been enjoying my morning coffee – it’s become a bit of a ritual.
Honestly, I had a lot of immediate concern when looking for a portable grinder, as my general conception of hand grinders has always been that they’re poor quality, and produce a bad grind. The C3 absolutely changed my opinion on this. The consistency of the grinds that the C3 produces are very high quality, and the range of size that it can produce is brilliant. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed using it when on the go and even use it at home from time to time despite having a Baratza Encore in my flat. Build quality is great and the provided cleaning brush makes it really easy to get any small pieces out of the burrs
Quite well made decent Construction overall I am very happy with this product as its settings enable me to grind different types of beans for the different types of coffee machines I possess.
An excellent product. Compact but easy to use; choice of many grinding grades, producing even grounds and therefore delicious coffee. The grinder is comfortable to hold and comes with a cleaning brush and a well made carrying pouch so you can take the grinder away with you for your own choice of coffee wherever you go, Bought as a gift but might buy another for me!!
I recently got into coffee and knew I needed a good grinder. After research and viewing the electric grinders that are 100’s I decided that a good quality hand grinder would suffice. I researched and found this to be one of the best value for money hand grinders on the market.
The whole thing has a quality feel to it. The burrs grind quietly and the handle is easy to turn. The little knob on the folding handle does squeak on mine slightly but this is no real issue. The whole grinding process takes probably 1 minute of turning so pretty good really.
I wake up very early so an electric grinder would wake the house up and this is perfect for a quiet grind ready for my morning brew.
Ok , i bought a fancy new breville coffee machine with integrated grinder and the grinder is shockingly bad. It’s not consistent for the most part, clumpy grind and it clogs up so easily that the whole thing needs cleaning out. So I decided to get a new grinder. I looked into electric grinders, but you have to pay 500 plus for something decent. Enter the hand grinder. This thing is brilliant. Yes it takes a bit of effort, but it’s only about a minute and I got it dialed in on the second grind. I found 6 turns for the coffee I use is perfect (I use ueshema Fuji mountain) it will fit 18g of coffee perfectly and it extremely easy to disassemble to clean. Yes you can get a similar item from china. But the sheer quality of this is second to none. Definitely worth the money
Good grinder, but not worth the upgrade from other Timemore grinders like C2. If you’re buying new that could be a different story depending on price difference. The taste and grind quality didn’t change massively compared side by side however the build quality of the C3 Pro was notably better and if you travel a lot could be worth it for better build alone. It was packaged very nicely with the Transparency sticker confirming its authentic aswell.
Downsides are that it definitely cannot grind for espresso as due to the stepped grind its very tricky to dial it in as you don’t get much adjustment and can go from a 24s shot to a 40s in 2 steps.
If you accept it can’t pull good espresso then its a good grinder at a decent price.
This coffee grinder by Chestnut is the C3s model. First of all I have state this machine is of high quality, the boxing and accessories are a statement in itself. I have never owned one previously but this piece is so exquisite, it needs a stand alone spot my kitchen shelf. If you are a connoisseur of coffee this would be most suited. The grinder itself is simple to use, place beans and wind/crush, it has 2 settings fine or coarse. I am using a medium roast Colombia origin bean after grinding tastes so amazing bringing out well balanced nutty taste. Since purchasing I am enjoying pleasant coffee mornings. I have to say it is expensive but that’s what you pay for quality.
I am a sucker for anything really well made, and this coffee grinder from Timemore is one of the best things I have reviewed for Amazon this year! Everything about it has been engineered to the last little detail and it does one job and does it perfectly!
I have a bean to cup espresso machine but this is perfect to take away with us and I will be planning on doing so on every trip we go on. But if you are dabbling in the market of a proper coffee grinder you could easily pay much more than this on a hand grinder!
It worked flawlessly and I could not be happier with the consistency of the grind, anyway I have done a quick little video so you can see all of the components and how it assembles for cleaning.
It is simple, extremely well made and does what it is supposed to really well… all huge ticks when I am looking for a product. I cannot fault it, well done Timemore!
As soon as you see the box of this coffee grinder then you know that this is a luxe product-in shades of black and gold it exudes an air of quality and luxury at the same time. This impression is confirmed when you examine the grinder itself with its aluminum alloy body, dual bearings and metal carefully fashioned handle which are very well made-the whole look announces this is a piece of stylish design as well as a functional object. You can set this grinder to a range of tolerances to ensure it works for your device-the instructions focus on the settings for French Press, Pour Overs and Espresso, but by checking online I found the calibrations for my beloved moka pot-9/12 clicks. Other than that it works like any handle grinder with it taking around 2 minutes to grind 25g of my chosen Arabica beans. There is no doubt as you turn you feel the quality of the blades and the smoothness of the mechanism so it is a pleasure to use. The ground coffee produced is of very even consistency and full of fragrance ready for the pot.
Two thoughts occur: firstly the price is hefty even for the quality on offer and secondly, this is a device for use on a lazy Sunday morning with your favourite beans not for a hectic Monday morning when you and the kids need a cup of something reviving at top speed! Recommended to the lover of both great design and carefully prepared coffee.
A quick review (sort of). I had the opportunity to taste some pre-ground coffee, namely Lavazza Oro Mountain grown and it had such a rich smooth chocolatey taste and that was without any milk or sugar, I was hooked. Even though I did occasionally drink good quality instant (So I thought) and enjoyed it at coffee shops, this was very different.
So, as I was drinking the Lavazza, brewed in an orthodox method as I had no coffee equipment, I went about researching and found the guru of coffee, James Hoffman on youtube. I think I then fell in a deep rabbit hole but my rationale kept me from sinking too far, as getting into that world could become very expensive and I didn’t want that.
After watching many videos my first modest investment was an Aeropress. This works very well with the pre-ground coffee and my enjoyment went up a step. The next step was to start grinding beans myself for the truer experience (although only supermarket sourced which could be months old, ideally fresher roasted bean suppliers are the ultimate) another complex path but I stuck to my guns. After some research and advice from forums, I landed on this, the Timemore C2 grinder.
I waited for the prime sale and got this at a good price.
I understand quality engineering, being a graduate in it, and this grinder exudes quality. Even though to coffee connoisseur this is a budget tool, it feels and functions higher end. Granted I have not tried the more expensive versions but for me, this is superb in my modest world. As this is around the 3rd iteration, two non-folding prior, they’ve upgraded the adjustment dial to metal from plastic.
It’s easy to setup, though may require some testing depending on beans but plenty of information available on the internet. The aroma of fresh ground beans, wow. My level of coffee has gone up another step. Comes with a cleaning brush which is very useful, a carrying bag as its designed for travel plus some instructions.
My reason for getting a manual grinder was budget. At this sort of budget you could get a electric grinder but it would be constrained someway, mostly with an inferior motor and possibly fail early. You really have to pay much more for a entry level goof electric grinder. By removing the motor element, more could be spent on the mechanism and structure and so, we have this, especially it having high quality steel grinding burrs than faster wearing ceramic. So, very pleased with this and hopefully it should last several years or more. Perhaps at one point the burrs may need sharpening or replacing, depending what’s possible.
I have a Eureka Mignon Specialita electric grinder and wanted one for my AeroPress which I travel with rather than having to keep dialling in my grinder at home to go from expresso to pour over coarseness of beans, so I thought I would buy one of these. When I travel, I always try to find a local speciality coffee shop and get new beans still looking for the subscription “house blend” think I am closer or a speciality limited run roast.
This is a well-made piece of kit with good build quality and nice little touches, how to dial in on the grinder head, how to open the handle and feels great in the hand nice weight and grip, that I think will give me many happy years of use. It is easy to grind 14g of beans weight (all about repeatable consistency weigh your beans) for my AeroPress, it will take as much as 20g max of coffee in one grinding, and takes about 20-30 seconds on 10 clicks from 0 point. This gives good even grounds without any “boulders” seen or felt, and gives a full slightly acidic tasting brew, which of course is also down to the coffee.
There is obviously some “static cling” of light grounds/bean skins on the inside of the grinder as you are generating static as you grind, a quick thump on the top with a flat hand to create a bit of a vacuum seal and will drive the extra bits through the grinder to the collection pot at the bottom. It comes with a nice soft cleaning brush and two compartment bag to protect scratching the body from top/handle section when it is in the bag for travel. It is easy to take apart/put back together all the way to an empty tube for cleaning. When you do take it apart it can only go back in one way due to the design which sort of makes it idiot proof. This is a time to see what you pay for, the Timemore made conical burr inside tearing the beans to sheards, is heavy and well machined with good cuts, that will grind against the static burr of the grind chamber (I have the new SC2 burr in mine which cuts the bean into smaller pieces to go through the grinder chamber for a finer grind size) to give consistently sized grinds.
From the above I think you can determine I am very happy with the product and have already recommended it to other coffee friends who are just getting into coffee so they can save money to get the other bits. But a quick trip to a charity shop for a French press/cafetiere, a nice bag of fresh coffee beans, spend a little on a good quality hand grinder (says will go down to expresso (it does) if that is your way!) is all you need for a great cup of Java to get you started for the day ahead and your journey into good coffee. Once you grind your own good quality fresh (look for roast date if not present or in years look elsewhere or get some of the internet) beans at home you won’t look back good luck.
See below for a quick guide to amount of clicks from 0 (handle does not turn as conical burr is to tight to the outside of the grind chamber wall to what ever you want!)
Timemore C3 Grind Setting (2022) S2C burr

French Press 16
Pour Over 13-15
AeroPress 11-15
Moka Pot 9-12
Espresso 7-9
Birthday present to go with his aero press. He uses it every day in work and when we are camping. Also useful to take away on holiday with how small it is.
More than I would typically spend on this kind of thing, but it grinds coffee beans with excellent consistency and quality just the way I need it. It’s also a very well built product, solid in the hand and smoother to operate than my old cheap one.
Bought this to make espresso at home, not an expert by far but managed to get a good grind with it now have an electric one but this sits with my aeropress for traveling. Love the folding handle and finish on it. Feels sturdy.
This burr grinder has helped me get more from my coffee beans than I had realised was possible. It has enchanted my experience of coffee. I love that the handle folds down to the side. So far very robust.
A previous reviewer said that it was too expensive, but quality doesn’t come cheap and the one that I received is strong, well made and works superbly, it gives the impression that it will last forever.
