This is an affordable lens that is compact and lightweight. It’s great for vlogging and capturing landscapes. The focal length works well for filming in small areas.
Pros:
Wide lens that doesn’t sacrifice quality.
Doesn’t look fish eyed.
Very clear.
Works well in low light.
Compact.
Lightweight.
Great for travel.
Looks good on the camera.
Comes with a lens hood.
Very affordable.
Cons:
Autofocus is a little slow.
Autofocus struggles at night.
Autofocus motors makes noise.
The autofocus is the only draw back but the issues can be resolved by adjusting the focus and aperture areas. Focus breathing is a little slow, but it’s not as bad as you think. The motor makes noises, but this is fine if you’re using a wireless mike. You can’t notice the noise when you’re out and about, but I wouldn’t use this in a studio setting.
It’s 20mm with very little distortion, surprisingly sharp across the whole image, and has great and quiet autofocus, (after a firmware update.) Flaring is controlled and I haven’t even had to think about it most of the time when shooting. (I haven’t needed the lens hood.)
It’s also very small and light, meaning it’s easy to use for selfies and vlogs without arm fatigue. It’s small and versatile enough that I just leave it on my camera and toss it in my bag.
Another nice bonus is the close minimum focusing distance, allowing for a wide pseudo-macro feeling with nice background blur on full-frame.
As for any cons: The aperture must be adjusted in-camera. In manual focus mode, the focus ring has no hard stop and can turn endlessly, and so has no markings, requiring you to look at your screen or viewfinder anytime you think you might’ve bumped the focus ring.
All in all, it would be a solid value for this 20mm at $500, and still better than most in that range… but it’s under $200, the price of a budget APS-C lens. Everything else I want to say just feels like hyperbole, but I think my feelings should be pretty clear by this point.
Edit: Autofocus still gives me trouble here and there. Extreme changes in focus can be kind of loud and not as quick as other times.
Lo tengo montado en una Sony Alpha 7 III y ya en la primera foto not una nitidez extraordinaria.
Esto, unido a un peso y tamao contenido y a un enfoque automatico ms que decente lo convierte para mi en un objetivo imprescindible para mis salidas nocturnas. La apertura 2.8 tambin ayuda bastante.
Sul mercato c’ di meglio, chiaramente. Ma la qualit prezzo di questo obiettivo molto buona. Luminoso e leggero. Ottimo grandangolo da viaggio. Poco pi ingombrante del Samyang 18 2.8 che si trova a qualche decina di euro in pi.
Calidad de construccin acorde al precio, pequeo y ligero, buen AF, ntido, pocas aberraciones y discusin muy asumible.
Por el precio es un “must-have”. Con este objetivo y un 35mm o 50mm tienes ms que de sobra. Hay objetivos mejores, ms luminosos., mejor construidos. Pero por el precio que pagas es una pequea joya. Totalmente recomendable.
This lens is an amazing value. Autofocus works great, sharpness is very very good, and its focal length is something I had never experienced before, but that I am starting to love. Obviously need to be careful with distortion close to the edges, but used right this lens is a great companion for indoor shooting. Highly recommended!
Not a focal length I use that often so didn’t want to pay a fortune for a lens. This lens is very sharp and is well built. Amazed how Viltrox can produce a lens like this at such a low price point. I’ve used it on a 24 and 60Mp camera and it performs well on both. Glad I purchased it.
Die Erwartungshaltung war gering und der erste Versuch war auch noch nicht so ganz zufriedenstellend. Konkret: die Eckenschrfe war auch abgeblendet nicht optimal.
Doch bei meinem 2. Exemplar sieht das jetzt schon besser aus.
Ab F8 ist das Objektiv fr Landschaft oder Architektur gut einsetzbar.
Bei F16 gibt es dann auch einen schnen Sonnenstern.
Der AF ist an meiner A7R2 nicht der schnellste.
Strt mich bei meiner Art zu fotografieren aber auch nicht.
Insgesamt macht es mit erstaunlich viel Spa mit dem Objektiv zu arbeiten.
Aufgrund des wirklich gnstigen Preises, der guten Verarbeitung und der mehr als brauchbaren Abbildungsleistung vergebe ich 5 Sterne.
Update 16.05.2024: habe mir jetzt ein weiteres Exemplar fr meine A7C-II gekauft.
Dieses Exemplar ist schon bei F4 erstaunlich gut und bei F8 sehr gut bis in die Ecken.
Bei Offenblende ist es aber auch gut einsetzbar und im Bildzentrum sehr scharf. Top!

I bought this Viltrox 20mm f/1.8 lens, mainly for landscape purposes. I refuse to pay what Sony was asking for a comparable lens…this Viltrox lens costs less than half of what Sony charges. I can tell you the quality is amazing for the price. This lens is well built and sharp. Furthermore, It is worth mentioning how lightweight it is! Perfect for my hikes and travels…
I will update this post if something comes up. But overall this lens will be part of my backpack for next seasons.
I have the 85mm 1.8 Viltrox the 24mm 2.8 Viltrox and now the 20mm 2.8 I use mine for weddings and functions with tight small venues small rooms ect.
The quality of focus and build quality for the price is worth every penny . My clients all have loved the images taken by all three lenses. Ie wedding couples and parents of baby shoots .
Both with Natural and reflected light or with a speedlight bouncing from a white ceiling .
Yes I have some Sony glass but do like a good prime lens that does the job at a fair price.
Fast aperture, ultra wide prime with great image quality — nothing comes close at anywhere near the price. Build quality feels great and the size and weight are manageable. Works with screw on filters. I’m looking forward to using the top screen and focus preset buttons for astrophotography. The autofocus isn’t the fastest, but more than adequate for landscapes, astrophotography, architecture. Overall amazing Lens and unmatched value.
