This aux and charger cable for iphone does not work with iPhone 15 series with usb c port.
Ordered this for use in a smaller car with an older sound set-up in it, because although low fuel consumption is great, AM/FM radio is no replacement for modern streaming audio. I was pleased with this cable, now I can listen to music and podcasts on the go without depleting my phone battery.
It is functional, plugging into your phone at one end with lightning and your stereo’s aux cable at the other.
I tested charging the iphone at the same time, plugging this into a standard cigarette lighter -> usb adapter and it works perfectly. Note that the charging part is usb-a not not usb-c (which was actually handy in my case).
Sound quality is good, cable length is adequate and everything stays securely plugged whilst driving. Build quality of the cable is robust with sturdy metal plugs on the ends and a good thick nylon wrap on the cable, which is a good thing for car cables – this is sturdy and should survive a good long time.
Overall, this does exactly what it’s supposed to, is a nice robustly built little cable and I can recommend it.
Nice bright color so would make it easy to find if it’s dark in the car, good if the USB in car isn’t working it can connect with Aux. It works with my iPhone to allow me to play it in the car. Acts as a charging cable too.
Downside: Bluetooth does this job better
I can recommend
This cable works well for older car systems without Apple carplay. There is a cable to connect to your phone for charging with a split for a 3.5mm male jack that can be plugged into the AUX port of your car system.
Both cables seem to function as expected although I’ve docked a point as there is some slight hissing from the 3.5mm jack which I don’t get from another similar cable, although this is removed when you plug it in a bit further. The cable is still very useful and it could just be a slight fault in my unit so I have only deducted one star, I also like the shorter length of the cable as it is less likely for my arm to nudge it while changing gears, the red colorway is also a bonus and matches the red trim in my car well.
This is a useful cable if you have a iPhone with lightning connector but no audio port and you want to use a wired audio connection and charge the phone at the same time. I’m surprised they don’t include a small audio coupler which enables you also to use this with wired headphones (see attached photos) otherwise the main use case seems to be for connecting to aux input ports of a standalone speaker or in the car. Also I made a small wire loop to hold the USB connector next to the audio jack so the wires are less likely to tangle when using with headphones (then I can just slide the loop down to free up the USB charging cable when needed)
Although many people use Bluetooth audio equipment wired connections are always going to be wanted, just for simple reliability and no worries about batteries running out, so this cable is definitely useful for my purposes. The lightning connector is slim so connects easily to phones with cases, the cable itself is pretty lightweight too, no problems to carry around in your pocket.
Imagine your dismay. You are driving along enjoying the carefully curated playlist on your iPhone when, without warning, half way through Act 3 of Parsifal, the music stops. Only three hours into the epic journey to Clashmaherrabeg and you are plunged into silence. Pesky iPhone batteries!
Next time, if there is a next time, this gorgeous, red and black cable with with red anodised hardware, will stop this from happening.
At one end there is a lightning plug that contains the DAC (Digital to Analogue Converter). This changes the digital ones and zeros stored on the iPhone into a continuous analogue voltage. A lot of mystery surrounds DACs, but putting the audiophile BS to one side, the ones found in these little plugs are “good enough”. The trusted website “Audio Science Review” actually declared, “Apple showed us that a bit more thought and engineering put in a dirt cheap and small audio product can produce respectable performance”, when they placed the 9 Apple headphone dongle 33rd out of 61 DACs costing hundreds of pounds. At the other end of the cable is a gold plated 3.5mm (1/8″) stereo jack plug to go into the “Aux” input of your car’s stereo and at the other end of the cable, yes it has three ends, is a USB-A plug that allows the iPhone to be charged at the same time it is playing. This magical lead allows charging current into the Lightning port at the same time as audio data is coming out so Parsifal can play to the end and your journey will fly by.
Of course this lead’s use does not need to be restricted to the car. It is equally at home connecting the music library on your iPhone to an analogue Hi-Fi system, or if you extend the 3.5mm lead, to a pair of wired headphones.
I got this for a new car, the car has wireless CarPlay unlike my previous car that had wired one. The biggest annoyance is the delay cause by the wireless connection. Especially if you travel a lot and use your phone when parked to watch stuff.
In this specific scenario, I thought you’d only be able to use one of the two functions, either AUX or charging. Not the case, in my car both are positioned next to each other, I plugged them both and voila, my iPhone was charging and playing through AUX with no delay,
This is a great item and a necessary one for one of the newer cars hat still have AUX in my opinion.
This is a really useful and well made cable which enables me to both charge and listen to audio simultaneously from my iPhone 6s through the car audio system (via the 3.5mm jack), The cable is in a red material which I believe is nylon and should be quite hard wearing. Whilst primary intended and marketed for this purpose, it is just as useful for listening to music when plugged in to my hi-fi system at home (the sound output quality is really good) What a great accessory.
Cable has an attractive black and red fabric outer sleeve, nice to the touch, and is nice and flexible. Connectors are lovely red colour – not quite the same red as the iPhone red – and seem very sturdy.
Just connect the lightning connector to the iPad or phone, then the USB and jack to the car, and hey, presto – iPad audio in stereo!
Tested with an iPad, it does everything it claims to do – charges the iPad whilst playing audio, whether voice podcasts, music, or any other audio from the iPad.
Very happy with it.
Review of in Car 3.5mm adapter for iPhone, 2 in 1 Aux and Charger Cable,
This braided cable is a USB Type “A” power input to charge an iphone via a lightning connector whilst the iphone playing music to a stereo or speaker via an additional 2.5mm stereo jack plug.
This ideal for my car as the only input to the stereo system is a 2.5mm jack plug, we are told this cable has a noise reduction chip, in use the cable does provide good clear sound but one should remember that sound reproduction only as good as phone recording being transmitted, charging rate for phone as fast as a lightning cable should be.
The braided cable quite thin and flexible allowing for excess to be neatly stored, the main advantage is that the iphone is being charged whilst transmitting sound to the stereo, the approximate length USB Type”A” and Jack plug to dual connector both 400mm (15″), dual connector to lightning plug 800mm (31″), ideal for me but maybe not everyone.
If you don’t want to have to upgrade your car to work with your phone, this could be the solution you’re looking for. If you have an iPhone with a Lightning port (as opposed to the latest USB-C models) and your car doesn’t have Apple Carplay or Bluetooth, this cable will allow you to play music via an old fashioned aux input on your car stereo. As a bonus, it will also allow you to charge the phone at the same time, assuming you have a USB port available.
For reasons that presumably made sense to the manufacturer, the aux input on my car is at the base of the handbrake rather than on the stereo or dashboard. The only USB port I have is in the form of an adapter in the cigarette lighter socket. I was concerned that this cable might not have the necessary length to connect to both at the same time but I needn’t have worried. Very approximately, the cable is about 75cm from the base of the USB plug to the point at which it splits and then about another 35cm from the other side of the split to each of the other plugs so if your aux input and USB port are within 70cm of each other you should be fine.
The cable itself seems to be good quality and not just cheap plastic. The outer is braided and the connectors are anodised metal so it ought to be hard-wearing.
If you drive an old banger car without the now ubiquitous Apple Carplay / Android Auto installed, and you are using an Aux cable to plug into the head unit then this is perfect for you. You can charge your iPhone at the same time as listening through the Aux connection.
I’m dropping 1 star as this is not a certified MFi, or Made For iPhone, cable. Sometimes an iPhone won’t work with a non-MFi cable – so far this cable has been good for me.
