So, I know it’s made more for action and such, but I thought it would be fun to give to a bride or in a cosplay convention, which is why I wanted it. My hope was that I could hand it to the bride or groom and have them have some fun with it. It works well, but it’s not perfect for that.
I like the build quality, it’s easy to use, and a lot of times the video quality is great. It’s definitely fun to mess around with the angles and zoom features like tiny world and ultra wide. Overall, I love the idea of the camera and will use it for certain situations.
Battery life seems great, I’ve used it for a couple events so far, and it’s been solid. I bought a backup battery, but haven’t needed to change it out during an event yet. Granted, I’m mainly a photographer, so I do use it somewhat sparingly. But overall I’d say it lasted for a solid couple hours of shooting with no issues.
The menus are easy to navigate, the touchscreen is responsive, and everything is durable on the unit.
A couple of quick things that I noted (again, these are issues really just in the way that I use it, might not be an issue for someone else):
1) You have to use the Insta360 editor to basically set up the shots the way you want and then export them to the correct format to be used in something like Premiere Pro. Not unexpected, but if you think about the editing process, this doubles my time essentially, especially if I’m using clips from other sources which I normally do. If you’re just using the insta software, it’ll be fine, no worries… but when I have to pre-edit my edits…. it’s just a bit of a drain on my resources. (And this isn’t really the fault of the device so much as it’s just mildly frustrating for the way I plan to use it).
2) I noticed in some of my clips, a weird ‘banding’ effect (blur really) in certain situations. It made the footage unusable, and the worst part is I’m not sure where it came from. It’s possible that it’s not the fault of the device, but the lenses were clean and clear, unobstructed.
These are the only things that were an issue for me, and I’m sure that’s being super particular and is unique to what I wanted to use it for. I still think it’s a pretty awesome device and will allow me to create some cool shots for my uses.
For this ‘review’ I’m giving it 5 stars, but for me personally, It might be more like 4.4 stars because of my intended use. I battled back and forth over this or GoPro, and decided to try this as something different since I’ve used GoPros for a long time. Maybe I just need to do more experimenting.
Die Insta360 X4 hat mich absolut berzeugt, besonders auf meiner E-Bike-Tour in Garmisch und auf der Zugspitze. Die 8K 360-Auflsung ist einfach atemberaubend — jede Aufnahme ist gestochen scharf, egal ob ich schnell unterwegs war oder die spektakulre Landschaft festgehalten habe. Besonders der unsichtbare Selfie-Stick hat mir gefallen, denn er gibt den Videos eine ganz neue Perspektive, fast wie bei Drohnenaufnahmen, ohne dass man den Stick sieht.
Die Kamera ist zudem extrem robust und hat selbst bei schwierigen Wetterbedingungen auf der Zugspitze einwandfrei funktioniert. Die Akkulaufzeit von 135 Minuten war perfekt fr meine langen Outdoor-Abenteuer, ohne dass ich stndig nachladen musste. Auch die FlowState-Stabilisierung hat sich bewhrt — die Aufnahmen sind unglaublich ruhig, selbst wenn es mal holprig wurde.
Besonders praktisch fand ich die KI-gesttzte Bearbeitung in der App. Es war kinderleicht, die Videos im Nachhinein zu bearbeiten und aus verschiedenen Perspektiven zu zeigen. Alles in allem bin ich mehr als zufrieden und kann die Insta360 X4 jedem empfehlen, der seine Abenteuer in hchster Qualitt festhalten mchte.

I love these cameras . Outsiders don’t realise the insta360 software is wow. You record everything than make magic with the app afterwards. I have 3! Thanks to the insta360 technical support team who are quick to respond.
As a user of the Insta360x2, then the X3 I was keen to get my hands on the Insta360 x4. I love my 360 cameras which allow me to be highly creative with my videos and sometimes stupid videos.
The New X4 did not disappoint, it’s a great camera and although it’s a bit bigger, it’s a little harder to run around with it in your mouth for NoseMode but not enough to stop me from doing so.
The new bayonet-style lens protectors that twist and clip into place come with the camera or you can buy better-tempered glass versions to help protect your lenses if you drop the camera, so much better than those horrible sticky lens guards. To be honest, though I don’t like to put anything in front of my lenses as it will lessen the lens quality, risky I know!
8K Video, Wow, this takes up more memory and power so that is one of the reasons for the size increase, it has a bigger battery, so it lasts longer and you will need larger capacity SD cards because of file size. There is also a 5.7K mode which you can use, and it will use less memory. Just as a heads-up I hear about hot cameras and overheating, yes they do get warm, but I have never had an issue and was shooting lots of video in temperatures of 39 degrees without any issues.
The bigger size also means that it now sports a bigger 2.5-inch screen which is great for playback. Shooting at 8K resolution also means that I can crop in on the video (Zoom in) and still be at 4K which is a bonus.
As a creator, the beauty of the Insta360 X4 is I can not only shoot weird and wonderful things, but I can shoot everything around me and then reframe on my desktop or app to show the view I want, you don’t miss anything!
I love the new camera, well worth having one in your camera bag.
I have mine paired with the Insta360 GPS preview remote so that if I have it mounted on a 3m pole I can easily see what is going on and start/stop recording a lot easier than having to hold a phone and do it (the remote can be wristmounted or attached to the pole). Used on its own, the camera is extremely easy to use. All of the automatic settings will give amazing results but if you want to dabble with the manual settings then you can get exceptional results.
I have been involved in photography/videography for many years and would give you these tips:
1. Get to know your camera… make mistakes and learn from them. If you have an important occasion coming up that you want to record, then practise, practise, practise beforehand and double, if not triple check your settings before hitting record.
2. Think about your mounts if used on a vehicle. You will see a lot of people complaining about breaking their selfie-sticks – almost every time it will be because of bad practice and lack of understanding of physics. Think about leverage, vibration and if in doubt, tether!
3. Protect your glass. The X4 has removable lens protectors which should be used in an action environment. I have had eight 360 cameras over the years and have NEVER damaged a lens , even in action environments. From a photography background I have been brought up respecting my glass. I always shoot with a naked lens if I can as this gives best results but there are plenty of accessories available to help you if you are shhoting in a harsh environment.
4. Respect your camera – although advertised as an action camera, you should still respect it as a piece of photographic equipment and show it some care and respect. The number of posts I have seen about lenses being cracked/cameras being broken as the tripod they mounted on fell over is amazing.
If you are looking at buying this as a first 360 camera then I absolutely recommend it. Easy to use and amazing, easily obtainable results.
If you are looking to upgrade from an X3 then I would say yes too (I did!) The X3 is awesome but the X4 is awesomerer!
This camera goes above and beyond with features. EVEN IF it had only 1 camera on the front, I’d still choose it.
The software is intuitive and clean, free from subscription services.
My biggest gripe however, would the immediate lack of accessories out of the box.. you need to get a selfie stick, or a GoPro adaptor, or (stronger) lens protectors. Simply holding the camera in hand is awkward, but the premium feeling of the brands selfie stick, makes up for it once more.
Must buy if you wish to re-live your adventures.

The quality is incredible, the ease of just recording and worrying about framing later is amazing
HOWEVER
The editing suite is quite complicated and the file sizes are huge!
So if you have alot of storage and are quite an interesting person I’d say go for it.
Great price for such a piece of tech.
The 8k 360 video is a massive improvement over the previous 5.7k (see attached video)
The interface is well designed and extremely easy to use. Even a complete beginner would be able to navigate the UI and start shooting awesome 360 video within minutes.
The form factor is great and the addition of detachable lens guards is fantastic!

Design und Handhabung:
Die Insta360 X4 ist schlicht und moderne gestaltet. Die Bedienelemente sind intuitiv angeordnet und ermglichen eine einfache Handhabung. Die Kamera liegt angenehm in der Hand und fhlt sich hochwertig an. Das Touch-Display ist ausreichend gro und hell.
Bildqualitt:
Das wichtigste bei einer Kamera. Die 8K-Auflsung der Insta360 X4 liefert beeindruckend klare und detailreiche Bilder und Videos. Auch bei schwierigen Lichtverhltnissen berzeugt die Qualitt. Die Mglichkeit, 360-Grad-Aufnahmen zu machen, erffnet vllig neue Perspektiven und ermglicht es, jeden Moment aus verschiedenen Blickwinkeln festzuhalten. Besonders hervorzuheben ist zudem die Bildstabilidierung, die sanfte Kamerafahrten ermglicht.
Videobearbeitungs-App:
Die mitgelieferte Videobearbeitungs-App ist ein echtes Highlight. Sie bietet eine Vielzahl von professionellen Bearbeitungswerkzeugen, mit denen sich die Videos auf dem Smartphone oder PC schnell und einfach optimieren lassen. Fazit:
Insgesamt ist die Insta360 X4 eine erstklassige 360-Grad-Kamera, die sowohl in Bezug auf Design, Bildqualitt, und Benutzerfreundlichkeit als auch in puncto Videobearbeitung und Akkulaufzeit berzeugt.
I mistakenly purchased the X3 version initially, but the upgrade to the X4 is well worth the 90 price difference. I’ve shared some photos, including side-by-side images of the X4 and X3 for length and thickness comparison. Unless you’re examining them closely together, the size disparity isn’t noticeable, nor is there a discernible difference in weight when holding them.
Few things to bear in mind:
1. Some Android users have posted negative reviews about this camera, attributing their inability to connect to their Android devices. However, this issue is not related to the X4. It is caused by an ad blocker or similar software enabled on their Android devices. This results in the “Connection failed Error code: -14174” message (refer to the attached screenshot). To resolve this, Android users simply need to access their device settings and disable any ad blocker to enable the X4 to connect with the Insta360 app.
2. The 8K resolution of the Insta360 X4 camera is spread across the entire 360-degree view, so it would not be fair to directly compare it to that of any other non-360-degree device, which only captures a fixed angle of view. When editing and exporting footage from this camera, you won’t achieve true 8K resolution in a traditional sense. However, considering the compact size of the device, the footage is still very impressive.
3. The Insta360 X3 Quick Reader isn’t compatible with this device; instead, the Insta360 X4 Quick Reader is required. Unfortunately, the X4 Quick Reader is not readily available for Prime delivery at the moment. Hopefully, the Insta360 X4 Quick Reader will be in stock on Amazon soon for Prime delivery; I’ll purchase it as soon as it’s available.
First off, the camera feels incredibly solid straight out of the box. Plus, the thermal protector it comes with is a nice touch, providing extra protection and peace of mind, especially when recording in 8K, which can make it heat up a bit. Speaking of 8K, I haven’t experienced any overheating issues yet, although longer recording sessions might push it.
One thing I love is that it includes standard lens protectors. They’re a must-have as I’ve heard horror stories about lens damage. Despite what some say about a slight decrease in video quality, I haven’t noticed any significant difference with them on.
My kids have even gotten in on the action, having a blast with the camera’s features. They particularly enjoy the AI warp feature, though it does take some time to process, usually around 30 minutes to an hour, but the results are totally worth it.
When it comes to memory cards, make sure you go for one with a V30 speed rating. Otherwise, the camera will let you know it can’t write. I’ve got a 256GB card, and I can record about 160 minutes at 8K. And if you opt for lower quality, you’ll get even more recording time.
I’m only scratching the surface with this camera, but I’m already having a blast. It’s hands down one of the best consumer 360 cameras out there right now. I’m eager to see what GoPro comes up with to compete, but one thing Insta360 has nailed is their software. It’s incredibly user-friendly across mobile, tablet, and computer, giving you more control over your shots.
If you’re on the fence, don’t hesitate. I highly recommend the Insta360 X4. It’s versatile, reliable, and offers a ton of fun features for the whole family to enjoy. Go for it!
The initial connection problem I had was due to the playstore update on the app which was rectified by installing the app from Insta instead. The other issue I had was with operating the capture button as it appeared to be working intermittently, however I found this was due to Bluetooth interference from the S22 and headset. Once I turned that off the X4 operated as expected. Very happy with the improvements.
Soon going to Maldives so it would be nice to capture shark shot being as solo traveler with help of long selfie stick.
Removable leans guards is best upgrade I think many people will appreciate.
Upon testing – performance is 10/10 and simply loving it a lot.
