This is a great fat ball feeder that the birds in our garden love. The squirrels and pigeons haven’t even attempted to go on it, which I think is due to the slanted roof.
It looks very nice in the garden and it is made very well. The metal bars are sturdy and the feeder hangs well. Our neighbours have even commented on how nice it is.
The wild birds in our garden love it.
The Jacobi Jayne Suet Ball Basket is a must-have for bird enthusiasts. With its large capacity, it can hold up to 5 fat balls, providing ample food for wild birds. This hanging bird feeder is specifically designed for suet balls, ensuring easy access for feathered visitors. Made from durable materials, it withstands outdoor conditions, offering long-lasting performance. Whether you’re attracting blue tits, robins, or sparrows, this feeder provides a convenient and reliable food source. Enhance your garden or backyard with the Jacobi Jayne Suet Ball Basket, and enjoy watching a variety of birds flock to feed.
it arrived fast on opening i was impressed with build and quality of the product
its well made and durable but that will not stop the squirrels lol. The lid is green metal so provides some protection and will hopefully stop the squirrels from chewing the top like my old one.
I have hung this in a tree at the front of the house off a branch. I have only been refilling with 3 or 4 fatballs as the birds love it gives them space to feed. Will use it fuller during colder weather.
Value for money can recommend.
I much prefer this design as opposed to others I’ve used previously. The fat balls are easy to insert and sit nicely (not all squished higgledy piggledy) in a row making it easy for the birds to access them.
The holder is sturdy metal and yet easy to take apart to clean as needed. The handle hangs easily on a tree branch or hook.
I have found the squirrels bother with this less than the traditional seed or nut feeders.
The smaller birds love this. The starlings and bigger birds can’t seem to grip onto this holder. It gives the smaller birds a chance. For this reason I adore it.
It’s a well-made feeder, and the small roof does keep a majority of the rain away from the fat balls. It’s a well coated, green metal feeder, with a decent thickness of metal used. It should be able to survive the British weather. A great price, and the birds love it. It’s a winner.
This alloy steel, suet ball, basket bird feeder (phew) was very easy to fill.
I purchased a big tub of suet balls from a local supermarket and I was able to get 6 of them in the feeder.
The feeder is then easy to assemble with a green pitched roof and a steel hanging handle.
The pitched roof provides the birds and suet balls shelter from the rain and helps ward off squirrels.
The bird feeder was easy to hang on a tree branch ready for the hungry birds. So far the squirrels have not worked out how to get to the suet balls but, give them time, I am sure they will work it out!
This is only the housing for the suet balls, the suet balls are not included with the feeder.
Its simple to put together and easy to refill.
It has a metal roof and hanger to suspend the bird feeder from a branch.
Suet balls to fill this bird feeder are widely available, and cost a couple of pounds for a multipack of 6.
We’re on a bit of a nature kick in the garden and this is a wonderful addition to the bits we already have out for the birds. The roof for it is a really nice touch and provides shelter for the little things as well as keeping the balls dryer. As others have noted these do not come with the balls 🙂
I do get through a lot of suet balls over the winter and my old (and now rusty) holder only took 4 balls, so I’m delighted this one takes 5!
It’s very well made and arrives in a polythene bag. It has a green metal slanted roof which is at a good angle for water falling off it effectively. It’s well coated and the whole feeder is of a good quality thickness of metal. The suet ball wire cage is also sturdy and you fit the end loops through the roof, then attach the hanger. We have an exposed garden so I’ll rope this to the tree but overall it feels a very good quality and the birds are going to be delighted too!
It’s a good price for the quality and I’m happy to recommend.
Living by the coast, seagulls and other big greedy birds can empty a bird feeder in no time. This one, with it’s ‘roof’ cover over the fat balls, allows the smaller birds to feed while making it too difficult for the gulls, pigeons and crows to use.
Its easy to refill and with 5 whole fat balls to themselves (not included) it’ll last the small birds longer than the original design of feeder it has replaced.
It hangs neatly from the hook and looks discreetly stylish.
I’m very happy with this feeder and the birds were happy with the swap!
PROS
-the key advantage of this feeder for me is the wide, pitched, roof. Great for keeping the rain off the fat balls (the ones with grain or flour in them suffer particularly when they are wet). It’ll also keep much of the sun off them too
-solid construction
-easy to put together
-holds lots of fat balls (my other holders only take 3 of them)
CONS
-none
NOTES
-I need to source a better quality of fat ball, I think
MY STAR RATINGS:
1* substandard, mostly cons
2** barely acceptable, cons outweigh the pros
3*** meets the basic requirements, cons balance the pros
4**** good product, pros outweigh the cons
5***** exceptional, all (or almost all) pros
The ‘Jacobi Jayne Suet Ball Basket – large capacity holds 5 fat balls for wild birds’ arrived in a simple bag.
This is such a simple design feeder, taking me only seconds to load with fat balls and fit the lid. I did find it was best to attach the suspension wire after the roof was in place rather than try to load fat balls with the roof attached at one end.
The feeder is already suspended from our birdfeeder stand, and is just awaiting its first visitors, though I suspect the local squirrel may also try and get in on the act.
One thing I would like to see on a future version of this feeder is some form of tray suspended below the feeder to catch the inevitable pieces of fat ball that often fall, and can make quite a greasy mess on the floor.
I got this feeder because one small “traditional” fat ball feeder (the one that the balls stack into vertically) does not seem to be enough to sate all the small birds, pigeons and squirrels that go for it each day!
I really like the interesting design of this feeder. It has a broad rain cover and, being effectively a curved tube on its side, there’s space for several small birds to feed from it at once.
It feels nice and stiff, and both the cage and rain cover have a nice finish to protect them from the elements.
It holds five standard fat balls, and is super easy to refill.
The one negative point with this feeder, however, is that there is no “indent” in the curved metal hanging wire, which means that if a bird lands on one side of it the feeder tips to that side with no way of returning to a “neutral” hanging position.
However, I can see this lasting me years, and I’m generally pleased with my order.
This Jacobi Jayne Suet Ball Basket is quite an unusual ‘U’ shaped feeder and holds 5 suet balls at a time. It is a good feeder for small wild birds with plenty of perching point and it got visitors very quickly when I hung it under my bird feeder. It has a slanted roof to keep the birds and the suet balls protected from the elements. It is very simply made and easy to put together and take apart for refilling. It is easy to clean and in-between washes I can mostly brush any food or debris off it. The feeder is made out of metal and has a painted roof and should be able to cope with our weather. I have had products from Jacobi Jayne before and have always been pleased with them.
Never had a fat ball feeder like this. It’s a novel shape and has a canopy, not sure the birds bind about this? Not seen many on it since I’ve put it out in the garden, but I’m sure they’llget used to it. I generally get Blue Tits, Great Tits on the fat ball feeder and annoying squirrels!
It’s well made and all metal, holds five standard fat balls in the curved tube. Nice item.
