I received the product and assembled it, and only when I was about to mount it on the wall I noticed the plank was bent. Very disappointing and not sue if this will comprise the product safety.
Edited: the seller contacted me unsolicited and offered full refund. I appreciate the customer service. Also bought a weights bench and their products feel sturdy and good quality. Just bad luck about the bent I suppose.
Sturdy and good quality, but I would only buy this if you know your way around a drill. I have also used better bolts, I didn’t trust the ones that came with it.
Great quality bar. Grips seem to be holding up well. Not suitable for anything other than a very sturdy wall. There’s a lot of leverage due to the distance from the fixings. Didn’t risk the fixings it came with, went for 12mm plugs and wall bolts, with a sheet of ply to spread the load.
Great bar and feels comfortable and sturdy. Needed to use an SPF drill with a 10mm drill bit for the initial holes and then a 14mm drill bit afterwards to fit the bolts in but those are the only other bits if equipment you need that aren’t included. If you’re drilling into masonry or brick that is. Made up with it and great addition to my workouts
It’s good but Before installing it throw the fixings it comes with in the bin then go to toolstation and get ‘Rawlplug R-LX Zinc Plated Concrete Screw Anchor’ 85mm or longer and it won’t come out.
Very impressed with the high quality and sturdiness of the product.
I bought this pull up bar about two month ago, use it nearly every day, it’s great.
It took some time and work to get it up onto my wall, but now that it’s up,…perfect.
I am around 75kg, and the thing does not move or shake.
For this price it’s hard to believe.
If you have a drill, a good one,(need a 14mm drill bit),
then you are all good.
I don’t often write reviews on products, but this one deserves a good one.
It says it can hold up to 120kg,
So’ if you are under,
than I would not look any further.
Had this installed for about a month and it’s solid – I’m around 95kgs and it happily takes my weight. I used M10 x 130mm coach bolts and the washers from the fittings provided for fixing it to the wall. This worked out to be a good choice as once bolted together the wall plates were not entirely straight so I needed some play in the holes to get the bar level. Definitely needed a 1/2″ socket set to get the bolts in and tight. Overall an excellent product.
This pull up bar is great value – much cheaper than others I have seen, but is really sturdy and strong. Mounting to the wall with the 8 expansion bolts provided is a bit of work (and needs a 14mm masonry drill bit that I had to go and buy specially since I didn’t have one that large) but once it’s up, there is no danger of it coming dow
As the other reviews have mentioned I upgraded to stronger anchor bolts, however I didn’t give the originals as a chance so I cannot comment. Unfortunately I had it sitting in my garage for months before opening it and when I was putting it up I discovered one of the fixing plates was on the wonk, managed to get it on and working. A solid bit of kit. Would have been 5 stars if it wasn’t for the wonky plate. It’s clearly a manufacturing fault, not bent on transit.
Excellent well made chin up bar I cannot fault the design but the instructions are hopeless. It states that to fix the bar to the wall I must remove the bolt and washer from the Expansion Bolt #11 and then attach the bar to the eight expansion bolts. If I remove the bolt and washers I cannot attach the bar since the bolts are now removed from the wall. Whoever wrote the instructions please get someone to proof read your work.
I used to have a full ‘station’ for pull ups, push ups, dips and leg raises. I had to sell it due to moving (and the missus not wanting it in the garage – it was big, hah!) so I looked for alternatives.
This seemed the obvious choice from the reviews, and after buying and installing it, I agree entirely. I’m 6’2″ @ 13 stone and it doesn’t move *at all* when I do various pull up or leg raising exercises on it.
One thing to note, if you’re drilling into brick, to projection/expansion bolts that come supplied can be damaging. The local DIY store (privately run) advised me to use 7.5mm brick screws. Much less invasive to the brick—safer—and once it cuts out it’s own thread on the way in, it’s not coming out. Ever 🙂
Use a 6mm drill bit, and drill a depth that matches the length of the screw. When using the drill (carefully/slowly) to screw them in, the screw will ‘take’ and go in easily and securely.
The screws have their own head type, you need the right drill bit adapter (DIY store will have it). I needed strong washers as the screw head was smaller than the holes on the unit.
Note: I had uneven sections on the wall, so I used washers against the wall to keep everything even.
The unit itself is solid as a rock, however the fixing bolts supplied are a faff to install and would be different if nigh on impossible to remove once installed. The expanding works from the inside out so the bolt has to be pulled towards you to expand. The potential is the bolts can be knocked backwards while fixing the plates and makes it very cumbersome. I’d suggest buying separate bolt sets to fix the unit and binning the supplied sets.
Apart from the the unit is good
It took me a while to decide on a style of wall mounted bar, this one fit the bill due to the narrower distance between the mounting plates and extra reinforcing strut near to the wall. I mounted direct to an outdoor solid brick wall, the anchor bolts that are provided would probably do the job, but for extra peace of mind I bought some that were recommended in another review. These were the Rawlplug RBL2 Rawlbolt anchor m10x75mm from toolstation, they need a 16mm drill bit. Once they’re in and tightened they’re not coming out. I’m currently 78kg and they support my weight with absolutely no problem. As I’ve mounted the bar outdoors I’ve found that the foam padding on the handles can move a little, it isn’t a problem at the moment but I’ll have to keep an eye on any affects the reason may have on the unit.
Great pullup bar. Fitted onto external brick wall.
Followed guidance in user reviews and purchased additonal M10 108mm Shield Anchor bolts from screwfix (using 16mm sds drillbit) and did NOT use the supplied bolts. Solid on wall.
***TIP***
1. If the holes drilled are slightly out (like they was for me 🙁 , after contemplating drilling new holes and repositioning bar, instead I loosened the bolts on both sides of the centre bar to allow some movement in the wall brackets to bolt to the wall, and then retightened the centre bar bolts !
I have even put 2 large snap hooks on the centre bar to hang swing fittings to the bar.
2. Judge height of fitting well, even a few inches inches to high or low can effect usage.
3. Helps to have decent drillset, spanner/sockets for quicker fixing.
Completely concur with the anchor bolt issues. I had 4 spare M12 100mm anchor bolts from Scewfix and as there are 8 holes I decided to use those and 4 of the ones supplied with the unit. BIG mistake. The M12s worked perfectly and the ones supplied did not. I’m now having to take the unit down, buy 8 new M12 100mm bolts and re-attach it to the wall. Ps) I did read the reviews about the bolts supplied being naff, but as an optimist, I went ahead anyway. Definitely buy M10 75mm or M12 100mm bolts. You’ll also need a large drill bit either 12mm or 16mm wide for masonry, if drilling into brick.
Excellent product especially for price. Very robust and sturdy. I can hang off here (85kg) with no flex on the frame and use it for pull-ups, TRX bands and resistance bands. You need to take the time the properly fix the the wall. I had recently had my breeze block garage plasterboarded. I disregarded the enclosed fittings (I can’t comment on there quality although they appear decent enough) and used my go-to CoreFix Heavy Duty fittings which I absolutely swear by and they never let you down if fitted correctly (https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B072JYXJL6/). If you are attaching to plasterboard I would recommend that you first attach a wooden plinth to the wall and then attach the bar to the wall through this – this will just help distribute the leverage being applied the wall and avoid potentially cracking the plasterboard. If also likely to give you a more secure fixing to the wall. Takes time but worth it to avoid ripping it off the wall mid-excercise and potentially doing you an injury. Product came really quickly and well package.
Got this to install in my home gym – a.k.a. The garage. The build quality is very good. It feels robust and solid. It is super easy to assemble too. It does come with everything you need IF your mounting this on a brick or concrete wall. However I was mounting mine on an inner breeze block wall so the fixings it comes with are no good for that. To save you lots of researching on the best way to mount this on standard garage breeze block wall, I used a standard12mm masonry drill, large 12x60mm nylon wall plugs and 8x80mm coach bolts with additional washers and spring washers. It took a while to install, but it is absolutely solid as a rock and ain’t moving anywhere. It can easily support my body weight of 100kgs and handily this also has an additional front loop on the main mounting where you can install a pulley (purchased separately) for tri-pull/push downs, bicep curls, face pulls (make Geoff at AthleanX happy!) and the like. It’s a fab addition to my home gym and I’m very happy with it. Just remember, use the right fixings for the right wall or it’ll end in tears!
This is a solid bar setup that needs to be anchored to brick walls with 8 screws.
I did it with my 16 year old son, could have done with another pair of hands.
In my garage, I had to cut away the plaster board to get to the brick and then refit it around the bar.
The fixing are quite wide , so big holes and a decent drill is needed. Its tricky to get 8 holes to line up , and there is no tolerance here. I can imagine you could balls this up quite badly if you arent good at DIY.
Once installed , its a great bit of kit , which allows for several pull up / chin up workouts
Its in daily use during the lockdown.
Wow, to say this exceeded my expectations is putting it mildly.
I have been dithering over which pull up bar to buy for ages, in the end I chose this because…. Well, I had to get round to making a decision and why not this one I suppose?
I’m really glad it was this one. The quality is superb, it’s solid and well built with nice neat welds and comfortable hand holds.
It came with expansion bolts fitted which ARE absolutely fit for purpose and hold the apparatus in place with no problems whatsoever (I’m over 100kg and I could swing on this all day with no problems) .
Don’t botch the fixing up and remember to buy your 14mm drill bit (and you’ll need an sds drill or at least a decent hammer drill) … don’t forget or get the job wrong, then blame others as I’ve seen on a few reviews here, I’d say it’s a two man job but with a little care and creativity you’ll get away with one at a push.
In summary, buy it and if you need to, pay someone else to hang it… I’m pretty confident I’ll get years out of this.
