I have an older monitor that doesn’t have an inbuilt webcam. Plus I keep my laptop closed in a dock so I needed an easy to use webcam that can be mounted easily on the top of the screen.
This is plug and play via usb. It just hooks over the top and you’re ready to go
The resolution/sound is good without being stunning and you have the added benefit of the privacy cover. Just slide that over the lens when not in use.
This webcam has significantly upgraded my video conferencing experience. Its high resolution ensures that I always come through clear and sharp, which is crucial for my professional presentations. The autofocus is responsive, keeping me in clear view even as I move around. The privacy cover is a thoughtful addition, giving me peace of mind when the camera is not in use. The setup was plug-and-play, which I greatly appreciated as it allowed me to get up and running quickly.
This unbranded generic cam is recognised by my system as a “Nisheng M3”. Reviews for it can be found online, it’s generally called the Nisheng 4k.
In testing, I did get an output of 3840×2160. The image quality is pretty good as long as your environment is well lit. In dull light, the image gets progressively noisier, with a clear grain present as the ISO is boosted to account for the low light. I don’t know what the actual sensor resolution is, image quality is acceptable but it’s not as sharp as the 3840×2160 output suggests. There is little point in outputting 2160p if the results are no better than 1080p.
The camera is provided with a basic but useful mini tripod, a USB A female to USB C male adapter and a self adhesive lens cover if you’re concerned about privacy.
I hoped to be able to use this with my Creality Sonic Pad, for monitoring 3D prints and for making time-lapse videos, unfortunately it is not compatible, no fault of this product however.
Whilst I don’t think the quality is up there with true 4K webcams, at the current price of 26.99, this is competitively priced and I would recommend it to those looking for a cheap webcam for video conferencing.
My built-in PC webcam stopped working recently, so I have been looking for a decent replacement. The first was pretty awful, but this one is really surprisingly good. It comes with a tripod to add flexibility, but can also be mounted on a PC monitor, and this is the option I chose. It grips the top of the monitor well and is very stable, and also comes with a self adhesive privacy lens cover, which is another plus point.
On the down side, although it works straight out of the box, without the need for additional software, and produces a very acceptable video image for video conferencing, I did have to make some tweaks using the PC’s built in webcam settings. The problem was the autofocus function, which resulted in an unstable image, and I had to switch to manual focus in Windows 10 and set it myself to make it more stable. This was not difficult, but it was fiddly. Once done, however, the webcam has worked perfectly.
Overall, this is a very decent product for the price, although you may have to make a few simple tweaks to get a perfect image.
Very simply does what it needs to. It was incredibly simple to setup and start using, and the camera quality is incredible for it’s price. It also very easily stays on the top of my monitor, whilst not obstructing it. Whilst I haven’t needed to use the tripod, when I tried, it was incredibly easy to setup. It certainly has areas it could improve but it’s great for how cheap it is.
This webcam provides the option of video meetings without even having inbuilt camera on desktop. It can be easily mounted on the desktop. I particularly liked the addition of a small tripod making it super easy to install and providing additional option of its placement.
The auto focus function seems to work well, which is something not available in traditional inbuilt cameras on laptop.
The webcam is just plug and play without a need of any software installation. I have tried it with Microsoft teams and it works absolutely fine with it.
I haven’t tested the audio function as I have a good headphone. There is a wide angle support up to 85 degree, which shall be helpful for group video calling, but I haven’t used it yet.
Overall a good quality webcam. Reasonably priced too.
Hope you find this review helpful.
For what they’re charging and promising, I wasn’t really expecting or hoping for a whole lot, but I’m pleasantly surprised. I already have a Logitech C920 pro at home with my Mac setup, with all the required software for panning/zooming etc – but I don’t have anything in my office on days I need to go up there for meetings and such.
I have not tried this (and probably won’t) on a Mac – but on my work PC running windows 10, it’s pretty easy to set up – indeed it’s plug and play. It doesn’t fit to the top of the external screen we have as elegantly as higher end cameras, but I am not fussed with that as I’ll probably only be using this one or two hours a week. But it’s far superior to the built in camera on my work laptop.
The microphones seem adequate, but I don’t care about those as I do all my video calls with Bose QCs that act as speakers and a microphone via bluetooth. I have no need for the tripod, it seems superfluous to me.
So it does autofocus, it’s definitely 4K – the image quality is great. It’s not very robustly built but hey for the cost I can’t complain, and I’m not exactly going to be taking this in the battlefield lol.
If you need a simple, no nonsense webcam that’s superior to what’s on your laptop and don’t want to spend a lot, this is a great option.
I recently installed this webcam and have been genuinely impressed by its performance. This webcam delivers exceptionally clear and sharp images, thanks to its 4K resolution. The autofocus feature works seamlessly, ensuring that I’m always in focus during video calls, which has significantly improved the quality of my teams calls.
The inclusion of a privacy cover is a thoughtful addition, offering peace of mind by securing the lens when the webcam is not in use. This feature is particularly appreciated in today’s digital age, where privacy concerns are paramount. Furthermore, the included tripod is a handy accessory that provides flexibility in positioning the camera for the best angle and stability during use.
Plug and play functionality is another strong point of this webcam. The ease with which I was able to set it up on both my laptop and desktop without needing to install any additional drivers or software was a pleasant surprise.
The built-in microphone’s quality is decent and captures sound well enough for most applications, though it may not meet the demands of users with professional audio requirements. For high-stakes conferencing or professional streaming, an external microphone might still be necessary to achieve the best sound quality.
While the overall performance of this webcam is impressive, I did notice that in low light conditions, the image quality can suffer slightly, despite the camera’s good performance in well-lit environments. This is a minor drawback, considering the overall excellent features and capabilities of the webcam.
You get the webcam, a small tripod, a USB-C to USB-A adapter and a stick on pivoted privacy cover.
I attached the webcam to the top of a monitor, it clipped on well and was easy to adjust the angle to point it in the right direction. The webcam automatically linked with no need to download drivers. The picture was good, but the camera has a wider field of view than I am used to, which is good if you want to see a group of people but may need cropping a little for one. I was impressed with the autofocus which focused quickly using face recognition but did not do that focusing in and out before locking on, that some cameras do.
The inclusion of the tripod is okay but as the tripod is so short it really needs to stand on something to be viable. The stick on privacy flap should work well and is useful for people wanting the confidence of knowing they can’t be spyed on through the camera.
I find there is a lot that can go wrong with webcams, from horrible unnatural colours to strangely distorted images or blurry focus. This one worked pretty well first time. It is a 4K webcam and I used it mainly with Zoom on a Mac; it was just a matter of plugging it in and it worked. It comes with a USB-A cable but fortunately for me there is a USB-A to USB-C adaptor in the box.
The camera is auto-focus and I got best results in Zoom by enabling HD in video settings. The level of detail is impressive and it also has a large field of vision compared to my previous webcam. I can read the book titles on the shelf behind me, for example. The colours look reasonably natural.
I positioned the webcam on top of a display but there is also a small stand supplied if you prefer. Finally there is a privacy cover for the camera but this is a bit of an afterthought and has to be stuck on top if you want it, with care needed over exact positioning. Best left in the box in my opinion, and unplug the whole thing if worried about privacy.
