Virtual Reality is a tremendous medium for giving n immersive look of real-life experience, and for certain activities a convincing feel. However, this only works so far; certain activities such as driving simulators greatly benefit from the tactile feel of steering wheel and pedals. Golfing, Beat Sabre, and tennis games are a few examples in the virtual world that would be enhanced by the feel and weight of a club/bat substitute. This is where the Mytrix Game Club for the popular Meta Quest 3 (and Quest 2) fills a niche.
The product itself feels of reasonable quality, primarily plastic, but with metal inlays for connectors, and a soft to touch handle covers. This club can be used as two small clubs, suitable for the likes of Beat Sabre and tennis games. Or with the provided connector with golf games, such as the fun Walkabout Minigolf game. For the latter not as long as a real golf club, but certainly a tactile improvement over just the quest stock controllers. The Mytrix set adds some weight to the controllers, but is relatively light compared to alternative metal virtual clubs (at much greater cost) — so more for fun than serious golf practice in the virtual world.
A small instruction book was included, but felt that the small pictures and scant notes was insufficient. It was easy enough to work out operation of this product, but there should have been more emphasis on correctly securing the controllers to the clubs — these can quite easy come flying off. The important thing is to correctly insert the controller to a tight fit (there are two ways to fit, only one is correct), and that the tether is hooked onto the club and tightened.
Two extra controller tethers are included which look stronger than the quest ones; the instructions do not provide information on whether these should be used instead of stock tethers, or whether simply provided as spares. If controller wrist strap covers are used, these will need to be removed before using the Mytrix Game Club.
The controller in situ works well, and is convincing in virtual reality use in the fun Walkabout Minigolf game. I would also suggest this would work great for Beat Sabre.
A useful virtual reality accessory for fun golf and club games, that appears to be designed sensibly with reasonable quality materials. Let down by a poor instruction book. Overall, increases the tactile immersion and enjoyment of playing virtual reality club-based games.
