This is a great 3rd party controller however the price is similar to the Nintendo Switch Pro controller. I would still lean towards the original accessories however this controller comes very close to it.

It has the same exact layout as the Pro controller but this does come with 2 additional buttons underneath it. It works just as well as the original Nintendo switch pro controller. This works with cable and also pairs no problem with my switch. A great alternative for the design and colors.

Had a 3rd party controller that was okay but wanted something a bit better.

This one looks and works great with my switch for gaming.

The lights are also very aesthetically pleasing.

Power A has been making accessories for a long time and this controller definitely feels top tier. It basically has the look and feel of an authentic Nintendo Switch Pro controller. It feels really good in hand. The buttons, triggers and bumpers feel great. The joysticks feel very precise. I wish they used a hybrid d-pad instead because the Switch does have a couple of good fighting games in their library.

The RGB I feel is kind of gimmicky and does drain the battery when in use. As of this review, I haven’t tried if this controller is compatible with Amiibos as of yet.

If you can pay a little extra, I would suggest just to go with the actual Nintendo Pro controller but if you do prefer the RGB lighting, then this is a real good backup controller.

GOOD ALTERNATIVE TO A NINTENDO SWITCH PRO CONTROLLER

Love the build quality of The Power A Lumectra. Same build quality as the Pro controller. Programmable back buttons are a big plus over the Pro, and the RGB lights are very nice.

I’ve tried this controller a few times so far. It’s comfortable. Feels like an official pro controller. My favourite and most eye-catching feature is the customisable lighting modes and options. Took a short while to remember each command, but gradually made sense after getting used to it.
After testing, everything functioned as expected. My only issue was no hall effect joy sticks. But that’s no big deal. It’s still a fantastic controller.

5.0 out of 5 stars So many colour combinations!

I’m always on guard when it comes to third party products for my systems. This one had official logo so I was more willing to give this ago. I’m happy that I did do that. My husbands switch controllers are dealing with a drifting issues so he doesn’t play as much as he would! But with this he is able to play his switch. He uses it on the tv but this can still be used on the switch it’s just the screen is a little small.

The controller attached right away without any issues and I was surprised. I do recommend reading the instructions to make sure you’re doing it the correct way from the start. This controller is extremely well made it feels sturdy and like it will last as long as you are taking care of it. This controller doesn’t have any rattling feeling. The weight is comfortable. The buttons feel tight and comfortable when you press them. It lights up when you are using it.

It’s nice that they are able to carry the ability to use the switch logo and that does add some comfortability. I’ve seen people talk about the price but the price isn’t high in my opinion. Its price is comparable to other licensed gaming controller. They all run the same price about. I see no issue with the price. This is almost cheaper by 20$ depending on where you get your gaming controllers. I think this is well made and priced comparably.

Although it’s wireless, I haven’t had issues with latency. Granted, my husband nor I play extremely budget games on the switch. But my husband did try some out specifically for this review and in the whole weekend he played at AAA game, he didn’t notice any latency issues. We more use the switch for campy, cozy, games but if you use it for more games with higher frame rates and stuff. I don’t you having an issue from our experience.

I needed to replace my Nintendo Pro Controller because it suddenly started to disconnect at random when I play Smash Bros Ultimate. It was becoming a problem when playing online, so I tried a few other controllers. This controller is ergonomically very similar to the pro controller, which is my absolute favorite because I have relatively large hands. The LEDs are a cool feature, but you don’t have to turn them on in case you prefer saving batteries — the toggle on the backside of the controller is very simple.
You CAN turn the LEDs on the controller on without it being paired, so you can play with the LED settings without your console being on. The LEDs do turn off automatically after some time without touching the controller though as a means to conserve battery, so if it turns on accidentally in your backpack or something, you won’t be rudely greeted with a dead controller.

Let’s get down to the simple nitty gritty:

    Pros:
    1) Very similar geometry to pro controller, so if that’s your baseline, then this is basically that with extra buttons on the back that you don’t absolutely need to use.
    2) Back buttons under the controller can be programmed on the fly. I don’t use them since I consider it cheating for the games I play; however, this is useful for accessibility purposes or if you’re playing a game that simply spams a face button that you are tired of pressing — you can just bind it to one of the back buttons if you prefer.
    3) LEDs are a cool functionality.
    4) Controller build quality is actually more solid than the Nintendo Pro Controller; the nintendo one creaks if I apply a moment on it. This one does no such thing and feels high quality.
    5) Unlike some aftermarket controllers, you can wake the Nintendo Switch console using this controller in the very same way the Pro controller does. No need to shake the controller or do any funny things.

    Now for the cons:
    1) No amiibo functionality; however, most aftermarket controllers don’t support it either, and I think it’s justified in the cost.
    2) Unlike some competitors, it doesn’t come with hall effect joy sticks. Early testing for me shows that the sticks are nice and accurate out of the box; it’ll just be a question of whether they’ll ever drift. Personally, I’ve never had any joystick that drifted on ANY of my controllers, so it’s not something I’m concerned about — but a lot of people look for it as a criteria, so it’s important to state.
    3) The instructions for the LED settings are very confusing. I practically had to just mess around with trial and error to figure out. I’m old and impatient, but I was still able to figure it out so I hope you will be able too.

All that being said, the cons are just me nitpicking. This is going to be my primary Smash Brothers Ultimate controller for the forseeable future, and I will update this review if my opinion changes.

    Great Pro Controller Alternative

First and foremost, the wireless functionality provides the freedom to game without being tethered to the console. The connection is stable and responsive, ensuring smooth gameplay without any lag or interruptions.

The ergonomic design of the controller is incredibly comfortable, with a familiar layout that feels great in my hands during extended gaming sessions. The textured grips provide added control and prevent slipping, even during intense gameplay.

The inclusion of Lumectra lighting technology takes this controller to the next level. The customizable LED lighting adds a touch of flair and personalization to my gaming setup, creating a dynamic visual experience that enhances immersion and excitement.

I appreciate the attention to detail in the design and construction of the controller. The buttons are responsive and tactile, with a satisfying click that enhances gameplay feedback. The analog sticks are precise and accurate, allowing for precise control in games of all genres.

The PowerA Lumectra controller offers a great feel and experience for a 3rd party controller option. However you will be missing out on some more notable features that other controllers have in turn.

    Pros:
Wake up the console from the controller. Many third party controllers lack the ability to wake the console from sleep using the controller, but this one can do it! It’s a little thing but it’s my favorite little thing.

RGB Lighting – The controller lighting is divided into 4 zones that you can toggle through to customize and adjust. Everything from using one of a few different lighting modes, brightness and color, to the speed of the lighting mode. This allows you to set various colors and effects to the different quadrants of the controller customizing it to your personal preferences.

Buttons and feel – The controller feels really good in the hands and the buttons feel responsive and accurate. Analogs have a nice texture lending to a slip free touch.

Gyro: Works perfectly. No issues in my testing. In fact compared to other 3rd party controllers, the gyro in this is perfectly compared to the official pro controller.

Extra long USB cable include – The cable is long! 10 feet in fact. Perfect for when the battery dies but you want to squeeze in that extra bit of gameplay.

Programmable back buttons on the grip.

    Cons:
(These are listed in the product description but it’s easy to miss.)
    No Amiibo support

    No Rumble

Battery life is shorter at 20 hours, and I suspect that is with the RGB turned off. If you are using RGB, expect a shorter time. I used mine for about 16 hours before recharging, and I had the RGB turned on in all quadrants, at full brightness. Personally I don’t see this as too much of a con because my longest game session will average around 12 hours, and I always charge my controller when I am done.

Confusing RGB programming – Setting up the RGB and customizing it requires a lot of patience and learning. The instructions aren’t as clear, giving mainly pictures. You just have to play around with it and learn it slowly. If clearer instruction were provided, this wouldn’t be a con.

    Other notes and thoughts:
I really like this controller. For my switch I have about 15 different controllers now, ranging from the official Pro controller, the 8bitdo Pro controller, and some no major name controllers. When I have company over to play Mario Kart or Smash Bros, this will be one of the controllers I have out.

Wasn’t sure if I should put this in the cons section because it could just be the unit I received, so instead I will just add it here in the other thoughts. Some sections of the lighting seem much much dimmer than others, and some spots have “hot spots” in the lighting. Hard to capture in photos because of light exposer, photography blah blah blahs.

I know many people will be looking so I will just lay out here that the analogs and buttons are NOT Hall Effect. It’s not listed as a feature, which most companies will list it if it is. Just something to be mindful of.

Overall I am really really happy with this. HD rumble is a bit of a bummer, amiibo I seldom use (only if I am material farming in Zelda). But the quality, feel and features that do exist make this a solid 4.5/5 for me in the controller line up. Good work PowerA!

    A solid 3rd party controller. 4.5/5

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersMy 7 year old loves this. We’ve tried different, cheaper versions but they don’t hold their charge well or end up disconnecting: this doesn’t. Nicely made, good design – would recommend.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersMe and my siblings got Mario kart 8 for the switch, and it got pretty competitive, so much so that we all each bought pro controllers, this controller managed to get me the title of worst Mario kart player in my home, but this controller is overall very good, good response time, good input timing, and the mappable buttons worked a treat, I’m just not that good at Mario kart. Only note: slightly sloppy, could be grippier/ have grips

Absolutely great, perfect replacement for a drifting pair of switch controllers. Brought it from Amazon Warehouse (meaning it was second hand) description said some visual damage but couldn’t see any. Works perfectly fine but can’t seem to work out how to map the secondary buttons but at the end of the day those aren’t a necessity. Cable that came with it is good length and worked so no problems there

I initially went for this controller as it looked like a good, slightly cheaper alternative to the official, Switch Pro Controller.

After a week of lite use, drift has already started to appear, but this seems to happen when the controller is running low on battery. Charging the controller seemed to eliminate the drift.

Overall the controller seems to have lasted a while without any major problems.

Gamepad is good, feels high quality and battery life is awesome. Sticks are solid, shape is perfect and connects fast. However, I have some serious issues with this controller. It is 2021, how can you possibly justify not having rumble in any controller?? There is also no way to forcibly turn the controller off, this normally wouldn’t be an issue but ANY input starts the controller attempting to connect and will also wake the switch, so if you carry it in a bag you will arrive at your destination with an overheated and completely discharged switch. One is a genuine oversight, the other is just bafflingly lazy. Purely as a controller it is great, but just save the money and get the proper switch controlle

I’m in love!! Not only is this controller beautiful but it also is amazing price and does everything you need it too, it has motion controls on games, can connect to your pc via Bluetooth only thing is no vibration but can look past that for the price!

Really nice wireless controller for the Nintendo Switch. I’m not gamer, so can’t tell you how good the additional buttons are, etc., but this is a sturdy, comfortable controller that’s light and easy to use. The rechargeable battery is a real plus. I’m pleased with it overall, but feel it’s slightly overpriced for what it is.
