You’re definitely paying for the content rather than the build quality. Everything is lightweight and cheaply made; it all feels a bit flimsy.
The game stick was easy to set up. I used it with a 1920×1080 computer monitor. The addition of the short HDMI extension lead is great as you will need this in confined spaces as the stick is too wide for most HDMI sockets. The stick needs power and most screens will have a handy USB port to supply it. It will also work if plugged into a phone charger. I took audio out of the monitor and into a pair of speakers.
The instruction book isn’t very helpful, but I was soon up and running and confronted with an enormous list of games. It’s tedious to scroll through them to find something you like but it is possible to add games to a list of favourites and this makes future sessions a bit less painful.
I have only scratched the surface of what’s available and it’s a bit pointless to list what the stick can do. Your best bet is to buy one and give it a go. Hardcore gamers might find the selection underwhelming, but casual gamers like me or young kids will find plenty to enjoy.
Wa worrying when reading the reviews but I had no problem putting it together it’s works well so happy I got this. I don’t know what to play fist I think I’m gonna listen to the background music lol
Okay, so before I begin it is important to stress that the one we initially received did NOT work!! It was a problem with the controllers so it was rendered useless. As my husband had been wanting one of these machines for ages, he was absolutely gutted, so what did he do? He went and bought another one which worked fine. So bearing that in mind, he has given this the review based on the working one we purchased, not the original one that was broken. This is what my husband had to say:
WELL, THIS IS PROBABLY THE BEST THING I HAVE EVER SPENT 35 QUID ON IN MY ENTIRE LIFE. I KID YOU NOT! I’ve spent 35 quid on vans, 35 quid on food, 35 quid on beer…well a lot more for the latter tbh, but really, this is aimed at all the geezers who are middle-aged and frequented arcades back in the day. I remember going into Sunspot in Manchester in the early 90’s like 91-93 and it was a massive sprawling arcade with all the latest coin-ops from Japan, like Metal Slug and KOF (king of fighters) for all those not in the know, but really, I loved it and spent more than 35 quid in there I can tell you!! but really, this is perfect and the graphics are spectacular for all the mame roms, it has everything, BIOSHIP PALADIN!!!!!! It’s amazing, my days of college are revisited. This is heaven and what’s that I hear?? It has a psx emulator on it too? OMG, it has OG gran turismo and TEKKEN and mortal freakin KOMBAT! OMG, really this is the best ever. I’m so happy, hours of carless arcade blasting, fun SNK bomber man is defo worth a mention too. Unfortunately, the device I got didn’t work so I was gutted but not defeated, I instantly bought a new unit and it worked! Hoorah, I’m sure it was a one-off, it’s fantastic. I love it and it is the best gaming euphoric device ever. Revel in its beauty for it is the prophecy the scripts spoke of such a creature of gaming magnificence and he shall bring light unto the 50-year-old child………. 200000/5. I love it, buy one now and apparently, this is the cut-down version. There are literally no downsides, even the crazy dodgy anime love puzzles …..
This is, unfortunately, not the best game stick, but there are plenty of games that will offer you many hours of nostalgia if you can find them and get the games and pads to work.
The game stick is relatively simple to set up. The stick is plugged into an HDMI socket on your TV via a fairly short cable and needs to be powered either through the TV’s USB socket or a power bank.
The Stick offers a range of game consoles for your enjoyment, from Sega and Nintendo systems, including Gameboy and Gameboy Advanced, NeoGeo, PlayStation, and more. There are a tonne of games to choose from, and if you are an older gamer, you will definitely get a kick of nostalgia with titles such as Altered Beast, Alex Kidd, original Mario titles, GTA, and some classic arcade fighting games.
The menu is not that difficult to navigate and is fairly intuitive, with the shoulder buttons used to switch between the tabs along the top and the arrow buttons to select the game you want to play. There is a search option, but it seems to be a little hit-and-miss as to whether you get the game you are looking for. Most games ran without any issues, but some of them had terrible audio glitching issues that made them unplayable and a few wouldn’t load at all. However, there are literally thousands of games to choose from, and if you were to work your way through all the games, you would be there for a very, very long time.
Some of the game titles and text inside the games are in languages other than English. This is not surprising if you are playing a Japanese release of a game, but it can make it difficult to play them.
By far my biggest issue with this retro game stick are the controllers. They are shaped like an original PS controller but are cheap facsimiles of the real thing. The controls feel very lightweight, and the buttons can be not very responsive at times, which can be very annoying. The lack of responsiveness could be because of the apparent need to always have a clear line of sight between the stick and the controllers, as the controllers lost their connection far too often.
If you can get the controllers to stay connected, this game stick will keep you or your children entertained for many, many hours.
This is a fantastic little device, so simple to get up and running, simply plug into your TV, attach a power supply (I used a power bank) to the micro USB port and pop AAA batteries into the controllers. I was introducing my daughter to all my old favourite arcade games from when I was growing up! Her mum then took over and played her favourite games from the Playstation Era. Great value little games machine.
Wow! Talk about a blast from the past! This is a brilliant little stick with an astounding array of games to choose from! Some weren’t as good as I remember first time around but others brought back floods of memories from my Uni days (should’ve been studying!) and further back!
So you can search all the games from start to finish (it’ll take hours!) or filter by console (SNES, Game Boy, Game Boy Colour, NeoGeo, Arcade, etc), or search by entering the name. You can then add your favourites to your collection and use that as a bookmark system. I can’t get over how many games there are on this!
So, the stick and controllers come in a small box, easy to take in a suitcase or round to a friends house. It just plugs in to the back of the tv and away you go. The controllers don’t need pairing, and are of a PS2 design (but a little clunky in the way they feel and not quite as good quality). It’s relatively straight forward to navigate the menus, the instructions in the box cover everything, but when it comes to working out the controls for each game, you’re on your own to figure it out (unless there’s an in game option to configure). Most are self explanatory. Similarly, there are language controls on the menus, but when it comes to thein game text, you will find some games with writing and menus in a foreign language/alphabet (Japanese, Korean, Chinese letters particularly unhelpful to me!). These tend to be for games that never had a UK or USA release. So this can quickly present a dead end, but there are plenty more games to try!
All in all, love it!
