Got this to replace an ageing Cherry keyboard which was starting to give up. Really pleased with the overall design, build quality and range of features this model offers, especially the multiple connection options which all work well. The backlight is very effective and provides an attractive glow in a darkened room. Key travel is ideal and the mechanical switches feel very sturdy. I’m expecting many years of good service out of this – highly recommended.
I have just spent a lot of money on my Dream Gaming laptop after my last one of 6 yrs is looking a bit dated .
The W A S D Keys are pretty much void of any lettering & This is where this lovely keyboard comes in …
To replace an RGB lit keyboard on my laptop is a lot more than this costs & there is the time the Laptop would be away that is the massive downer !
I found this keyboard connected reasonably easily once I had read the manual properly and not tried to use Fn &F1-4 but instead used Fn & 1-4 , It did work with the dongle but my laptop is black & the dongle is white and it bugged me a little…. I had to use Fn+3 to connect to my Win 11 lappy..
So far it has been good and I have adjusted to typing on it & gaming on it ….
The keys have a nice “Click” to them so you know you have actually got the keypress …
When Gaming the RGB lighting is on & while general typing it’s off …. an easy use of the Fn and Up/Down Cursor keys .
Underneath the keys is easy to clean with the cover being magnetic & removeable…
The unit has a reasonable weight to it and i find it quiet comfortable while sat flat on my desk without raising the back feet.
In general a nice keyboard that is nice & compact but does still retain the Num keys on the right … A must for Sim fans …
Hope this helps …
In the realm of gaming and work, finding a keyboard that can effortlessly transition between the two is rare. This keyboard, however, strikes the perfect balance with its tactile feedback and vibrant backlighting. It offers a compact design without sacrificing functionality, making it ideal for limited desk space. The ability to connect in multiple ways, including Bluetooth, was a game-changer, ensuring seamless switching between devices. The rechargeable feature meant I could game or work for hours without worrying about batteries. It’s a versatile tool that meets diverse needs with style and efficiency.
This keyboard is a good size, without being bigger than necessary. It looks good, and has something of a retro design to its colour scheme. The keys are of the traditional mechanical type. It has a single USB-C port which functions both for communication and charging (depending on the mode you set the keyboard to).
This brings us to the different ways you can use the keyboard. I’m really impressed with this; it can be used as a normal wired USB keyboard, as a Bluetooth keyboard, or using the included USB dongle, as a wireless keyboard. This gives versatility for different use cases. How to set the keyboard to the different modes is explained well in the manual.
Back to the physical aspects, the keyboard is fairly weighy, which can be a good thing or bad depending on your use case. Though I think it’s clear that this keyboard is designed more for using at a desk. The top part of the base of the keyboard lifts off (it’s held by magnets), and this may be to enable easy replacement of keys, though I’m not certain (the manual calls this a “magnetic upper cover”).
The mechanical keys are personally not to my liking. I know they are popular with some gamers, but I find them much harder to use than the laptop-style keys I’m much more used to, for typing especially.
The keyboard has a multicoloured backlight. I’m not very keen on it; I would much prefer a simple white or yellow colour. While I can switch it off, there’s an issue that, the writing on the dark gray keys are quite difficult to read without the backlight (so I really have to keep it on).
Overall, a well-build, solid mechanical keyboard which looks good and has very good options for connnecting to your computer. The backlight and long action of the keys are just not to my taste though.
Diving into the digital realms with the Rii Mechanical Wireless Gaming Keyboard feels like wielding Excalibur at the round table of gaming and productivity. This isn’t just any keyboard; it’s a versatile beast, designed to cater to the whims of both gamers and typists alike, with features that blend performance, aesthetics, and comfort into one sleek package. With its 101 keys outfitted with blue switches, each keystroke is met with satisfying tactile feedback and an audible click that’s music to the ears of any mechanical keyboard aficionado.
The Rii Mechanical Keyboard shines quite literally, thanks to its 20 modes of RGB backlighting. This feature not only adds a vibrant splash of color to any gaming setup but also ensures that each key is clearly visible, whether you’re typing up a storm in the wee hours or navigating through an intense gaming session. The wireless connectivity is the cherry on top, offering flexibility with three modes to choose from: Bluetooth 5.0, 2.4G, and USB-C, making it a breeze to switch between devices or platforms, from Windows and Mac to PS and Xbox.
However, the keyboard’s UK layout may require a brief adjustment period for users accustomed to different configurations, a small hurdle in the grand scheme of its offerings. The rechargeable nature of the keyboard, coupled with its durable build, ensures that it can withstand the rigors of prolonged use, whether you’re crafting documents or battling foes in virtual worlds.
In essence, the Rii Mechanical Wireless Gaming Keyboard is a testament to the fusion of form and function. It’s a tool that not only elevates your gaming experience but also transforms typing into a tactile delight. Whether you’re a gamer, a writer, or someone who appreciates the finer things in tech, this keyboard is a worthy addition to your arsenal, promising to brighten and enliven both your space and your digital endeavors.
I am overall impressed with this keyboard; it makes typing seem less like a chore and more like a pleasure. This product also has a great distinctive retro design which also makes it stand out from others.
This retro design has also inspired its typing experience as it sounds just like you are typing on a typewriter rather than a keyboard. Although the keys are a lot more responsive than a typewriters.
I also appreciate the backlighting feature of this product as it makes its use in the dark more visually accessible than my previous standard keyboard.
Overall, I think this keyboard is a great bit of kit and I do recommend it especially as it is reasonably priced at 39.99 (upon this review).
Presentation
Supplied for review in a typical rectangular and branded cardboard box complete with a USB C to USB A connection cable. No user manual was supplied with the keyboard, however the instructions on the rear of the cardboard box were sufficient to understand the functions — though they are not very easy to keep to hand on such a large canvas! I am not sure I was supplied with a used keyboard but the lack of instructions, spare switches, tools and of a Bluetooth dongle make me think that is the case.
First Impressions
The keyboard is a creamy colour for the frame and base with contrasting dark grey and orange keys for specific actions. The ability to use the keyboard as an almost office mode with the detachable magnetic frame in place and as a more gaming looking keyboard when the magnetic frame is removed in interesting aesthetically though it doesn’t add any functionality as such. There are three connectivity modes Bluetooth 5.0+2.4G Wireless+ USB C wired, we like to use wired though it is nice to have the other options — though we could not try Bluetooth as the dongle was not supplied in the box. There is an on/off switch at the rear to switch on the keyboard for wireless/Bluetooth mode, whilst the keyboard does have adjustable feet for pitch height which re either deployed or not in which case the keyboard sits flat, rubber feet prevent it sliding on the desk.
The keyboard does have a decent amount of weight to it and feels well made and robust — at least for a keyboard in this budget price range. Key travel is OK, with a satisfying click when pressed, though it lacks the tactile feeling of some of the more expensive mechanical keyboards, there are an array of LED displays that can be chosen through a multi-key press or indeed you can turn them off – though in this case seeing the lettering of a transparent light grey on cream where the LEDs shine through might be difficult for some. The keyboard is also chargeable, I found it needed over 4 hours for the first charge, but since we are using it wired, it will be charged every time it is in use.
Day To Day Use
The keyboard is more than responsive enough for gaming and as an introductory mechanical keyboard it does a credible job. It is also a decent keyboard for general office use — I have used it for instance to type reports, emails, do research etc with no issues whatsoever. The lack of documentation and other items noted above was disappointing though this is not necessarily the sellers issue and I am reviewing with that in mind — I do feel there may be other options for configuration that I am missing due to their lack.
Summing Up
Overall the RII Keyboard is decent value at the price and as a first mechanical keyboard setup — it is well made, performs as expected and has multiple connectivity options.
The mechanical gaming keyboard with mouse came very well packaged also the gaming keyboard looks amazing for my husbands gaming set up he has, It looks well made and very sturdy, It looks amazing in the dark as the colours are so much more noticeable which my husband loves the most.
The keyboard has 101 Keys and is of a compact size, theres also a matching gaming mouse that has 6 rgb backlight.
This is perfect for gamers, its exactly as the description describes and works as it should with no issues.
Hubby and i can reccomend.
Great quality and easy to use.
Price is average.
Overall, the Rii Mechanical Keyboard offers a fantastic typing experience, versatile connectivity options, and customisable features that have truly enhanced a gaming setup. It’s retro and cool, but in a modern way and it adds a fun element to gaming sessions.
The switch keys provide a satisfying clicky feedback that feels like typing on a typewriter from the 80’s.
The backlighting is fab and groovy and it’s like a 80’s disco party on the desk especially at night.
Setting up and customizing the keyboard is a piece of cake had the instruction been clear but unfortunately they are NOT — they are a terrible translation from Chinese and are muddled and confusing.
The keyboard can be used via a WIFI connection, Bluetooth to the supplied dongle (stored under the keyboard) or via a supplied USB lead.
It took us a while to work out how to charge the keyboard as the terrible instruction are not much good; you do in fact use the supplied USB lead and charge it either from your USB port whilst in use or via an independent charger. Regarding the charge level we simply didn’t see any warning light (ie amber) it just simply stopped working!
A good overnight charge rectified the issue — full charge is when the 2nd from bottom LED turn green. We think the bottom light is for a Bluetooth connection but who know the instruction are that bad!
If you’re in the market for a new gaming keyboard, and your happy to work on pigeon English over a cup of tea you won’t be disappointed.
If, like me, you like pointless LED light displays then you’ll love this keyboard. It feels really sturdy and stays put on my desk. The keys make a satisfying click when pressed so you know your press has registered. The Bluetooth connected quickly and easily to my laptop and I have had no issues with typing or navigating. All in all a brilliant little keyboard for gaming or everyday use.
This keyboard is an intriguing mix of modern technology and retro stylings. Visually, it strongly reminds me of early personal computers such as the BBC Micro, CBM Pet or Apple ][, but behind the beige, orange and brown exterior there’s a load of modern technology; you can connect this keyboard to anything with USB or Bluetooth connectivity. And it’s rechargeable, to boot.
As a clickety-clackety keyboard, it’s fine; I’d prefer it if the “raiser” legs were a touch higher, but that’s definitely a personal preference thing.
However, this is a heavy keyboard, the plastic overlay which sits atop the keyboard is held on via some small magnetic clips which aren’t quite strong enough to cope with said weight. Admittedly, by it’s nature, the overlay clips straight back into place pretty easily, but it’s something to bear in mind if you have a need to pick up the keyboard on a regular basis!
Overall though, it’s a nice and comfortable keyboard.
This is a very very cool looking keyboard and performs great too, nice feeling mechanical switches with a very tactile and positive activation, which is great for typing, and gaming and can be connected via Bluetooth, wired and also wifi, I always use wired myself being a gamer but the other modes work great too, all in all, a great keyboard and good value too.
This is a good quality mechanical gaming keyboard
The keys have a satisfying click when depressed and so far none have stuck.
I love the back lighting, it’s a rainbow of colours. The colours can’t be altered but the patterns can or even turned off if you prefer, I particularly like the option that lights up when the keys are played.
The fascia is attached with magnets and can easily be removed for cleaning.
The keyboard is rechargeable and the cable is included as is 2 spare keys and removers.
What a really good bit of kit!, It is an excellent quality wireless keyboard, with great led lighting effects, Smart looking and wireless function works perfect!
The keys are very responsive and great for my big fingers.
They are snappy and very responsive.
It is rechargeable and quick to charge and the charge lasts a long time.
I really like this colourful keyboard and it is great value for money.
I would easily recommend it…
I had an old fashioned keyboard similar to this years ago and found it comfortable in use. Although I can use any type of key system I’m comfortable with this one as well.
I learned to used a Querty board many years ago There are times when it is good to use an old fashioned set up. I frankly doesn’t take more effort to use than any other and in fact it’s quite pleasant going back to a key board with feeling. There are 101 full size keys all with a back light. Full size sits slightly
higher than a laptop normal. I tried the keys with my Grand children who are heavily into computing as most are now adays. The bumph says that it is good for gaming and I would agree with that.
Once you get used to the keys being raised you’ll be comfortable with the board.
Being a family of computer nerds and gamers, we have had a LOT of keyboards we have used in the past and currently. From 200+ keyboards, chiclet keys, ergonomic and dedicated and expensive ‘Cherry switches’ of various colours, we have plenty of experience.
Since I use computers in my job where I use a keyboard all day and every day, it is important that I get the correct tool for my job and that is why I use a Logitech MX keys and definitely NOT a mechanical .
I could not use this or any other mechanical keyed gaming style keyboard because of the noise that the mechanical switches make, and this Rii keyboard is particularly noisy. A wee bit annoying that some areas of the keyboard have differences in the noise. The spacebar in particular.
But to be fair this is a gaming keyboard and we think this is a decent one, especially considering the price. All the keys feel just as good to type on as a ‘Cherry’ switch keyboard that is four times the price. I would imagine will also last for a long time.
There are two spare switches and a switch puller included.
In wireless mode the keys are as responsive as in wired mode, to me at least. My sons who take their gaming very seriously try to convince me there is a difference, but I do not see it and never have done.
I am not a fan of gaming RGB lights, but for those that do like them, there are a myriad of different patterns and effects and you can also switch them off, thankfully.
I like the idea of being to easily remove the frame which is held magnetically. This makes it MUCH easier to clean. It also looks not too bad without it and gives a less chunky look.
I was also pleased to see that I got an English layout where the sign is correctly placed and works as it should. Been caught out with that one in the past.
Once you manage to decipher the wording and grammar of the manual which has obviously been translated I assume from Chinese, this is actually a very decent keyboard.
I have a similar quality keyboard which is not wireless and was double the price, so that gives you a feel as to how good value this one is.
I recommend!
I’ll get this out of the way first – the manual is atrocious. It makes little to no sense, there is a line diagram of the keyboard but it doesn’t label anything. I cannot understand what the LEDs near the number pad, that seem to indicate charge and so on mean. I cannot find an explanation on the images in the store description either. The translation of the instructions to setup Bluetooth connection is well, it’s about as good as I could do. You really need to get a first language speaker to read the results of this stuff or you’re just wasting time and money.
This is my first RGB mechanical keyboard and I’m slightly surprised that there’s no software to control the 20 options for pattern, which means you have to scroll through them effectively randomly. This is a silly problem to have. There’s no list of those RGB options in the manual, this is also a silly problem to have. If you go one past the one you wanted, which you’re just going on by how they look (is that cycle left to right, or right to left?) you’ll have to cycle through all 19 again to get back to it.
I would expect to open software, see a depiction of the mode, and be able to tell the software to use that one. It’s unlikely you’ll hit Function + Insert accidentally and move modes but wow, if you cared about the pattern selecting it would drive you absolutely bonkers.
As far as I can tell, the RGB is just static colour for each key so it doesn’t seem to let you select all white, or all blue or anything like that. However, nothing in the manual to tell you that. The manual makes the common mistake of using tiny font for no reason, presumably because people without 20/20 vision or who are older are not expected to exist.
There’s a wireless dongle that attached magnetically to a slot in the underside of the keyboard, and also an on off switch. The keyboard charges via USB-C on the back and there are fold out feet to increase the angle it sits at. It’s quite heavy, so won’t be sliding around our desk.
The mechanical keyboard element is fine. The keys have louds, crisp clicks. They seem fine to type on to me, and I didn’t have any comfort issues. There’s a key cap lifter and spare keys included which is nice. You can lift the front panel off easily enough that it comes off accidentally while you’re picking up the keyboard, but it means cleaning the keyboard won’t be problem. It’s magnetically attached but the magnets aren’t incredibly strong so you won’t have problems getting it off when you need to. I definitely like this feature as I’ve not had it on keyboards before and I do not enjoy pulling keys off just to clean out hair, dust and crisp crumbs.
You’ve got bluetooth, a wireless dongle and USB C as connection options which is great, and a USB cable is also included.
Overall, aside from the manual being truly dire, and the inability to control the RGB with software on your PC/MAC, this seems like a good keyboard. I’m honestly surprised you can get mechanical keyboards at this price point. It’s more than sufficient for my needs.
I got around to replacement my “branded” keyboard that i spent an absolute fortune on, they keycaps wore away and couldnt be replaced and turned useless. However this absolutely amazing piece of kit. Superb, cant fault it, the blue switches are nice and give a great tactile feel, I’ve used it for programming and some brutal gaming sessions. It synced up easily and the fact i can easily switch between devices with it is brilliant. The led’s are fixed colours (no rgb on each key) but it looks absolutely fantastic, i have to say i’m extremely impressed and going to get another one for my wife! would recommend!
Let me share my thoughts on the Rii Mechanical Keyboard — it’s truly made a difference in my gaming experience! This keyboard has quickly become my favourite for gaming, and here’s why:
Firstly, let’s talk about the typing feel. The blue switch keys provide a satisfying clicky feedback that feels incredibly responsive and tactile. Whether I’m typing up documents or executing complex commands in-game, the keys offer a level of precision and comfort that I appreciate.
What sets this keyboard apart is its versatility. It’s wireless, giving me the freedom to game from anywhere in the room without being tethered to my desk. Plus, it offers multiple connectivity options including Bluetooth 5.0, 2.4GHz wireless, and USB-C, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of devices including Windows, Mac, PS, and Xbox.
The RGB backlighting is another standout feature. With 20 different lighting modes and 3 customizable modes, I can personalize the lighting to match my mood or gaming setup. It adds an extra layer of immersion to my gaming experience and looks fantastic on my desk.
Setting up and customising the keyboard is a breeze. The Rii software allows me to easily customise key assignments, macros, and lighting effects to suit my preferences. It’s intuitive and user-friendly, making it easy to get the most out of the keyboard’s features.
Overall, the Rii Mechanical Keyboard has exceeded my expectations. It offers a fantastic typing experience, versatile connectivity options, and customisable features that have truly enhanced my gaming setup. If you’re looking for a high-quality gaming keyboard, I highly recommend giving this one a try. You won’t be disappointed!
This mechanical gaming keyboard with 101 keys is nice and compact with very good tactile feedback when you’re typing. The keyboard is RGB backlit, with 20 modes and customisable. The keyboard is also rechargeable, meaning you don’t have to keep messing with batteries. Overall, it’s a good-looking, RGB back-lit keyboard. Good value for money, for the price, 37.99 (with 2 discount), there’s not much better out there.
Flexibility in connection; meaning you have 3 modes in which to connect, Bluetooth, 2.4G wireless, or USB-C wired.
This is a really fantastic keyboard, almost perfect.
The colour is so reminiscent of 80’s keyboard on the BBC micro it takes me back. The positive clacking of the keys is also a throwback and of course great for gaming.
I already had a mechanical keyboard but it lacked the number key pad which made it less than ideal for normal use.
Pairing is easy with the provided dongle tucked underneath. It will charge from USB C port and lasts a week easily.
The RGB lights are cool and can be set using the keyboard and turned off if too distracting.
The fascia can be removed for cleaning it is held on by magnets but the one I had was lifted on one corner and wouldn’t stay latched otherwise it would have been a 5 star perfection.
Not enough of a gripe to return, we are talking a very minor issue.
Brilliant.
This is a really good value mechanical keyboard for those who are just getting in to mechanical keyboards or just want a step up from the usual cheap wireless keyboards on the market.
It looks great, with a retro vibe. The keys are all backlit with multiple different patterns available, but it should be known you can’t change the actual colours. They’ll always be in the same rainbow pattern, you can just change how each individual LED flashes on and off.
The blue key switches feel quite nice for every day use. I’m not an expert in the subject, but they feel just a touch spongy to me, but they have a satisfying click, and are so much nicer to type on than non mechanical keys.
You get a couple of spare key switches and a key puller in the box, but you could swap out all the switches and keycaps if you felt inclined to do so.
A couple of minor gripes. The upper frame of the keyboard attaches by magnets, but they’re not very strong, so it’s a little loose. I’ve picked the keyboard up by the frame and had the actual keyboard fall out on a couple of occasions. The overall build quality is fine, but doesn’t feel like a premium product. Also, those LEDs not being addressable RGB is a mildly annoying, but overall I think these are fair trade offs for such a low cost keyboard.
This Rii gaming keyboard has RGB lights which are just what I like for gaming. It’s all plastic, but feels really sturdy and the keys are nice and and easy to press and respond perfectly and there have been no missed clicks during games If you want, you can even swap out the switches. The keyboard connects with Bluetooth or can be used wired and it comes with a USB-C cable for charging. There’s a little stand on the back to prop it up, and a spot to store the wireless adapter.
Setting up the lights was easy, there are a choice of colours and effects to choose from. You can even turn them all off if you want. There’s also a program to do more with the lights if you wanted, but I was happy without doing that. The battery lasts a long time too, although using the lights will no doubt drain it faster. So all in all it is great for gaming, but if you dont mind the rather loud keys it is fine for general use too, although you may need the lights on if you need to see the keys. Very pleased.
