We were a bit sceptical that our garden would ever look nice! 3 weeks later and we have actual grass! Highly recommend. Note – you need way more than you think!
Initially slow to germinate, but that was probably my fault for not sewing enough seed. When more seed was added and then a week later it as grown back a lot thicker. It seems perfect for patching the lawn. Keep well watered.
Came in a plain sack which was fine I don’t need fancy boxes with built in dispensers etc.
Bought this to replace my stock which I’d just exhausted so don’t know how quick it’ll germinate ye
I purchased this for after I’d cut bushes back causing patches, I have 6 cats so I put some netting over it whilst letting it grow and writhin two weeks I’m starting to see beautiful grass coming up nicely! I’ve just purchased a second bag for more of it!
Great seed with super fast germination even with the prolonged poor weather for this time of year.
Manages to continue to grow well in our super boggy clay based garden and looks like it’s actually beginning to help the drainage even in the most drenched and shadiest part.
Going to buy another pack just to make sure coverage is nice and dense.
Definitely so far so good.
Glad I purchased this brand and can highly recommend. Well worth the price too for the amount of seed you get.
It’s definitely a big thumbs up from me
i had put the seeds down just over 2 weeks ago and water then every day not inculding when it has raining and the grass is already growing recomeded this prode
I purchased this grass seed to help the front lawn after installing some hedges. The difference after 6 weeks is great but as others have mentioned the seed does seem to be slow growing in some parts.
I needed grass seed for an area of the garden I’d recently landscaped. Trying to save money I initially purchased a cheap box of grass seed, it didn’t germinate. After reading reviews I purchased the Sprogs and Dogs seed. It was quick to germinate and now 6 months later the lawn still looks green, thick and fab. Well worth spending that little bit more for a superior product.
Having two dogs who likes to play in the grass (not to mention the occasional wee..) had really worn my lawn. Planted this mostly on the thinnest bits but spread a little all around and now after about 6 week the result is incredible. It did take its time to grow but you can really tell the difference now. Will update as time passes and the dogs keep playing on it but so far, really impressed!
So after a wet winter on a shady clay lawn, it was basically a mud patch. We also have an abundance of earthworms which create masses as casts (piles of mud) which smother the grass and kills it. I bought this as it’s advertised as a sturdier variety. The problem with clay is it dries quickly in hot weather and drowns in wet weather. After much trial and error here are some top tips for sowing on clay soil lawns:
1. Wait until it’s warm. I did the first batch in March this year and it was just too cold, germination was slow and about 50% success. You’ll see other reviews from this time say similar. Wait until April or until it’s consistently 8 degrees or above at night.
2. Mix with compost before scattering (3 or 4 times as much soil as seed) for a few reasons. First it’s really hard to rake clay soil and you’ll end up with seed just lying on top or covered with thick dense soil. Mixing first helps to evenly distribute the seed, it gives the seed a nice loose soil to root into first. Compost retains water better and stops the seed from drying out. It’s more nutrient dense than clay soil so gives the seed a little boost.
3. Wait for consistently damp weather or else water daily for at least the first 2 weeks. If it’s particularly hot and dry water twice a day or else invest in a sprinkler. Clay dries very quickly and the germinated seed will die if it dries out.
The durability of the seed has yet to be shown, I’ll wait a whole year to comment on that. I’m also going to leave it long over winter and core the soil for drainage as I’ve read that helps with survival in clay over winter. To be continued!
so me garden got rather moody this winter with all the rain and dog running around so bought this seed to see if it can help bring back the grass. this full bag was used in 1 go in raked areas then smoothed other, full bare hard mud under a tree so not much grass grows there and scattered around to give volume to the garden again. so far the seeds have took and sprouted.
now I’m not a gardener so I know i may not be doing it right but I’m doing it at least. so I will need another bag just to do the last touch ups. with all the April showers we are having I will have lush green grass again in no time. 5/5
I used this on freshly tilled soil as a patch in job on my lawn
The seeds have a pretty solid feel to them.. I know that is indicative of nothing, it was just psychologically reassuring
After sowing these and gently working them through the soil, after a week or so I had a nice downy growth on most of the patches
Some areas took longer to really bed in but that’s more to do with my soil than the seeds
Now you can really tell where I planted these as they grow faster than the rest of the lawn and have a very tough and resilient feel to the shoots
They have a lovely consistent and vibrant green colour and frankly next year I’m tempted to completely till over the entire lawn and reseed with just this varia
After trying approximately 10 different grass seed brands, I can confidently say that Sprogs & Dogs Ultra Hardwearing Grass Seed by Lawn UK is an absolute gem. It has exceeded all my expectations and has become my go-to choice for achieving a lush and resilient lawn that can withstand the wear and tear of family life.
First and foremost, the durability of this grass seed is exceptional. With kids and pets constantly playing in the garden, I needed a seed that could handle heavy foot traffic without losing its vibrancy. Sprogs & Dogs Ultra Hardwearing Grass Seed has proven to be the perfect solution. The grass grows strong and dense, withstanding the constant running, jumping, and general playtime activities of my children and furry friends.
The speed at which this grass seed grows is also worth applauding. Within a remarkably short time, I witnessed the transformation of my patchy lawn into a lush carpet of green. It was impressive to see how quickly the seed germinated and filled in the bare spots, resulting in a uniform and attractive lawn.
What sets this grass seed apart is its adaptability to various weather conditions. Whether it’s scorching summer heat, heavy rainfall, or cold winter temperatures, Sprogs & Dogs Ultra Hardwearing Grass Seed remains resilient and maintains its vibrant colour. It has proven to be extremely hardwearing and resistant to drought, which is a huge relief, knowing that my lawn can withstand the challenges of different seasons.
Another advantage of this grass seed is its low maintenance nature. Once established, it requires minimal effort to keep it looking great. Mowing becomes a breeze, and the grass maintains its neat appearance even with regular use.
Furthermore, the 500g packaging size is convenient and provides sufficient coverage for my family lawn. The seed is easy to spread evenly, ensuring a consistent growth pattern and avoiding any patchiness.
In conclusion, Sprogs & Dogs Ultra Hardwearing Grass Seed by Lawn UK has truly impressed me with its exceptional durability, fast growth, and ability to withstand the demands of family life. It has outperformed every other grass seed brand I’ve tried. If you’re looking for a reliable, low-maintenance seed that will provide you with a beautiful and resilient lawn for your children and pets, look no further. This 5-star gem will exceed your expectations.
Grass seed sown to “EXACT” instructions (as I’m not a gardener) 8 days later still no growth, Ill update next week, after 14 days.
I live in southern Lincolnshire, with probably the best growing conditions in the country for arable.
I could not rake all the seed under the soil but be assured the “VAST” majority is at about 1-2cm under the soil, I keep it moist “NOT” wet, I water it in the mornings, because I read about plants don’t like damp roots at night !
As I mentioned I’ll update next week
Update day 18
The seed started to show at about the 11th day, the above photo is at 18 days after sewing, still a few little patches, but time will tell if the seed underneath comes through.
Update day 41
Grass continues to grow well and has started to thicken up and out nicely. I started cutting it at about 8cm/3″ inches high, needed cutting twice a week and I’m slowly reducing the height to about 5cm/2″inches.
This is another section I seeded only 10 days ago, however I did use fertilizer on this section. (Purchased through Amazon)
TOTAL LAWN (EAN 5065003543072) Pre-seed and Turf fertiliser | Fast Acting Fertiliser for New Lawn, Quick to Establish |Specifically for new seed establishment and pre-turfing. 1-2mm Granules – 100m2
I recommend this seed and I not a gardener by any stretch of the imagination.
21/02/2023 As you can see on both sections the grass has filled out and is growing nicely, as I said previously I live in South Lincolnshire, we have had a very mild winter not too much frost and only a few downpours, but the grass is doing really well and its not been down a year yet.
I’m very pleased with the products I used. I am about to order some more pre-seed and grass seed for another section of the garden, so it cant be bad. thanks for your time and my rambling.

One year in and I’m extremely pleased with the lawn, its still gaining thickness and has spread out to cover smaller patches, cant recommend it enough, slightly different shade than my original lawn, but you cant have everything. All in all very happy.
Back in the summer I dug up a tired old garden path across our lawn and wanted to return it to grass. Having levelled the ground I trawled through Amazon to find some grass suitable for my use. We have a long garden, and a border collie, Storm. Storm can get up to quite a speed and the path/new grass section is right where she slams the brakes on before ploughing into the hedge at the bottom of the garden. I needed the grass to be resiliant to the braking and turning forces of a very agile young border collie. I thought “sprogs and dog hardwearing” were all words I wanted to hear.
I followed the instructions and sprinkled out the grass. I only had a 4m long stretch x 0.5m so not a huge amount, and I’ve got lots of seed left over. In fact, it’s come in handy to patch up areas where Storm has gone for a wee and killed the grass.
I wanted to protect it from the hundreds of birds that visit our garden every day so I laid the grass and then used an insect protector anchored down with some tent pegs and waited.
A few weeks later and my former path had become a lush lawn once more. The colour doesn’t quite match the existing lawn, although that’s a hybrid of all sorts of grass and moss so that doesn’t bother me. It took around a week in the height of summer (just as we had a heat wave, typically) before the grass germinated. I spinkled the area with a light dusting of hose water morning and evening, and before long the grass was starting to come through. It was 3-4 weeks before I would say it was a fully lawned area, but I’m pleased with it.
The dog has been darting all over the place on it ever since. I laid the grass in late July and as we enter into November it looks lush and full despite Storm’s best efforts.
