I have a very expensive ergonomic keyboard and limited desk space. After trying numerous options that failed, I got this. Press the button, wait 3-5 seconds, and my keyboard switches flawlessly from a Mac to a PC. I’m sure it works for other applications, but this was mine.

I was sitting there one day, wondering if one of these existed. Thought I’d look on Amazon of course. Lo and behold there’s lots of them. This device works great. Beats pulling wires. I am ordering the 4 device unit next.

This USB switch is a wonderful device to keep around the house. You can plug this into one PC (or laptop), that only has one free USB A socket, and into two peripherals (like a printer and a scanner) and switch between them. Alternatively, you can connect this to one peripheral (like a printer) and connect it to two PC’s and switch between them when you want to print. The latter idea is perhaps more relevant at the moment, as we often have more than one computer in the house these days and this means you can share a printer.
The device is plug and play and requires no drivers to be installed. It is supplied with 2 x USB-A to USB-A cables (so you might need adaptors or extra cables).
This is a dream to use – simplicity itself and brings versatility to your home office.

5.0 out of 5 stars A really useful device!

The USB switcher works as intended and connects easily to all the devices I tried it with such as a printer and two laptop computers. The device is great for saving space on your desk and avoiding the need to plug and unplug devices. The item appears well made and arrived well packaged and in perfect condition.

Review of Jancane USB 3.0 Switch Selector – used to switch wireless keyboard and mouse

MY NEED: I use two computers which both have their own wireless mouse and keyboard. I wanted to use only one keyboard-mouse unit and swap this between the two PC’s as needed.
The Jancane USB 3.0 Switch Selector seemed to offer this possibility

CONSTRUCTION: The Selector Switch came packed in a no-nonsense robust cardboard box which was shrink wrapped on the outside.
Inside the Selector Switch and USB cables were in packed in white plastic bags.
The unit is small only 50x60x10mm in size and is finished to a high standard. The metal case is bushed aluminium. Its edges are chamfered and polished to give it a smart look.
It feels light but adequately robust for its function in a consumer/home environment. I am unsure if it would be as suited to use in a workplace or industrial environment.
All USB sockets are USB 3 as are the cables. The cables are 150cm long and well made.

GUARANTEE In its marketing literature Jancane provide a guarantee with the switch. It says,
“Jancane provides lifetime technical support and a 36-month after-sale warranty for this USB Switch. if you have any problem, please feel free to contact us by email and we will get back to you as soon as possible within 24 hours.”
However this is not repeated in the enclosed instruction booklet or on the box in which it was packed.
There are no contact details in the instruction booklet if you needed to contact Jacane to use this guarantee. The contact details available are on the rear of the box. These include a Hotmail email address, a USA telephone number, and a London postal address for the UK distributor.

USE: The use of the Switch is intuitive. The USB cables and the wireless dongle of the keyboard-mouse plugged into the sockets smoothly and without issue. When in use a small blue number lights up to indicate which of the two outputs are active.

The instruction booklet says it is compatible with USB3, USB 2.0 and USB 1.1. I plugged the cables into USB 2 sockets on my two computes and the device worked flawlessly without problem. This may seem self evident but I have read that in the case of some similar devices users claim they have had problems when using legacy USB sockets on their computers.
    I had no such problems.

I was able to switch the keyboard and mouse between the two machines without any problem.
A single press of the push button on the top of the switch instantly switched the mouse and keyboard to the other computer. There was no delay or hesitancy. The change was immediate and flawless..
The “Device Manage” in Windows shows that the mouse and keyboard are working correctly.

In use the switch does not get hot or even warm

    POWER ON/BOOT.
The switch works as expect when both PCs are up and running. However when powering on the PC you need to pay attention to the order in which you power them on and the setting of the switch.

Most computer will not power on and fail their POST process if a keyboard and mouse are not connected.
This is normal for a PC. They can usually be forced to power up without a mouse or keyboard by changing settings in the BIOS. However the default for most PCS is to fail to power on.

This means that when switching on the PCs you need to do it in sequence and ensure that the switch is set to connect the mouse and keyboard of the PC you are powering up first. If you don’t do this the PC will fail its POST and not power up. Once the first PC has booted up the switch can then be changed to connect to the second PC which can then be powered up.

The alternative of course is to change the settings in the BIOS.

If the PC fails to boot up it is not an issue with the switch it is the fault of the user for not ensuring that the keyboard and mouse are connected to the PC being powered on.

    SLEEP MODE
In use there is also an occasional issue (again user generated) when one of the PCs is set to or goes into Sleep Mode.

If you are working on one PC and the other goes into sleep or you put it into sleep AND THEN swap the keyboard and mouse to the active PC it is not possible to wake the sleeping PC by swap the keyboard and mouse back to the PC in sleep mode and using a keyboard stroke or mouse click to wake it.

The PC in sleep is unresponsive to these. The only way to way the PC is by teh recommended option of clicking of the power button.

This ONLY HAPPENS if you disconnect the keyboard and mouse from the PC which is in sleep and SWAP the keyboard-mouse to the second PC.

THERE ISA NO ISSUE If you have put the PC into sleep or it has gone into sleep and you have NOT DISCONNECTED the keyboard-mouse from it . In this situation it is possible to wake it from Sleep using the keyboard or mouse.

I do not believe that this is an inherent problem with the switch. It seems to me to be associated with he working of the PC/computers not the switch. I suspect even disconnecting a normal wired keyboard and mouse connected directly to the PC when it is in sleep will result in the same effect.

My understanding is that f the keyboard/mouse is disconnected from the computer when it is in sleep the “software connection” to teh OS is broken. If you then reconnect a keyboard-mouse to a computer it will need to be reconnected to the OS before it becomes active and recognised by the computer. Unfortunately, for this reconnection to take place the PC must be awake. So if it is asleep it cannot make the reconnection to enable the keyboard-mouse in the OS so this so the keyboard and mouse are not recognised and do not work.

If a keyboard-mouse IS NOT DISCONNETECD FROM A SLEEPING PC then they REMAIN CONNECTED TO TEH OS and can be used to wake the PC

The above has nothing to do with the working of the USB switch.

    SUMMARY
This is a very useful device for using one keyboard and mouse with two computers. It swaps seamlessly between the two computers.

Some attention is needed to the order of powering up the PCs and re-awakening the PCS from sleep (if the keyboard-mouse have been disconnected during sleep). This is not an issue with the device. The same issues would be seen if a wired keyboard and mouse were directly connected to the PC were used and then disconnected (with no USB switch between)

VALUE: The price point (29.99) seems high a) for what this device does and b) also compared to the market.
At time of writing a brand name wireless keyboard is around twenty pounds. This switch is more expensive. Using two keyboard/mouse is a lower cost option. If you are only very rarely and infrequently needed to swap keyboards and mouse between computes it is difficult to justify the high cost of this device. However if throughout your session/working day you need to constantly switch Keyboard and mouse between PCs then this device might be of good value – but it is still a high price to pay.

5.0 out of 5 stars RECOMMENDED Well presented & made, works as expected, awareness of PC's BIOS settings useful

I recently got this USB 3.0 switch because my work laptop only has two USB ports and one has my mouse on it. This switch works perfectly for connecting and toggling between my printer and USB conference phone. Very satisfied with its performance. Haven’t experienced any lag or connectivity issues. The build quality is solid and the switch feels durable. Highly recommend.

I have a wifi printer that works on 2.4Ghz channels and works well with some other machines and devices but had 2 MacBook Pros on higher Wifi frequencies so I needed to use USB connections (which I prefer anyways over Wifi in most cases) but the printer only has one USB port. his solved that problem especially with the bidirectional capabilities so the printer could respond back. Depending upon which computer needs to use the printer while at the desks, you simply select which one is talking to the printer with the press of a button. It is that easy peasy.

The box showed up a little scrunched on one corner (see pic) but there was no harm to the contents. Other than that minor thing, it has been a flawless solution to sharing the USB port on a higher end printer & scanner – and more cost effective than buying a second printer.
