This product is amazingly easy to set up and it comes with all the items needed to install it on a wall. It’s very small and does not look like an alarm. It almost looks cool! Battery next to it only to show size

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic, very small an cool looking

The WOLF SHIELD Carbon Monoxide Detector with a 10-year sealed battery is a reliable and portable alarm designed to keep you safe from the dangers of carbon monoxide. Its adherence to the EN50291:2018 standard ensures a high level of performance and compliance with safety regulations.

However, it’s important to note that the lack of a display might be a drawback for some users who prefer visual information about carbon monoxide levels. Overall, the WOLF SHIELD Carbon Monoxide Detector is a practical and efficient choice for those seeking a hassle-free, long-lasting solution to monitor and alert against carbon monoxide threats.

Every once in a while there is an absolutely tragic accident in the news about an event directly attributable to Carbon Monoxide poisoning. This is especially sad when one considers that devices such as this one under review are inexpensive, last a long time, are unobtrusive and are easy to use and install.
You can see from the attached video how these work. I placed the device in a long thin box and then offered it up to my car exhaust. Within seconds the piercing alarm sounded and continued for some time and some minutes after the poisonous “source” was vacated.
For sure it is a lovely small box that is easy to fit and can be positioned close to a possible source of problems such as the boiler, gas fire and so on. It has a ten year sealed battery so it’s maybe a good idea to pencil on the back of it your ‘go live’ date though the unit will warn you when the battery is failing. There are also other error codes generated such as if the sensor itself is faulty. In addition there is a graded response to the alarm generated depending on the levels of CO discovered.
All in all this is a perfect place, set and forget CO monitor which of course one hopes will never be activated. If it is however, once can reflect that the warning it has provided is well and truly a life saver. Many thanks .

This is a very compact unit, and that makes it ideal for my campervan. I especially like the black colour rather than the traditional white colour of most other CO detectors. The unit contains a lithium polymer battery, and it is intended that this lasts for the lifetime of the unit. The detector is activated once it’s attached to its backplate. The backplate can either be screwed on the wall/ceiling or dtuck on woth double-sided tape. There is a test feature that cycles through each of the indicator lights and sounds the siren. The siren is really loud and would surely wake up the deepest of sleepers!

At the time of this review, you can get this carbon monoxide alarm for around 20
This alarm comes in two parts, first as a bracket to fit your chosen surface, which can just screw in place and then the alarm that slides on top of it

It’s a nice compact alarm, easy to fit and use.

The alarm makes an audible sound as soon as you attach it to the fitting plate bracket so you know it’s working.
The date of manufacture and replacement is actually printed on the back of the alarm, so make a note of that before you fit it, but it is simply enough to slide the alarm back off the bracket to check this if you have fitted it.
This is a 10 year alarm with a nonreplaceable battery. It would be nice if the date was printed on the front or somewhere on the side which would make it easy to see it.
My last carbon monoxide alarm actually was due for a replacement last month and I had written the date for a replacement with a sharpie on the front, with this one I’ll have to print a little label and stick it onto the side of the alarm so I know when it’s due for replacement.

In summary, it’s a nice compact alarm which was easy to fit. I’ve attached a short video to show where I fitted mine near my central heating boiler which is actually located in the garage.

I hope you find the review and the video helpful if you’re thinking about buying a carbon monoxide alarm.

Installation was reasonably straightforward — it doesn’t become active until it’s on the backing plate, which pushes the metal contact off the plastic lip (see photos and video). When you do this, you will hear four very short beeps, and each of the three lights on the front briefly flashes from right to left. NOTE: I attached the backplate as shown in the video because I’m not screwing it onto the wall, obviously you should attach the backplate to the wall first if you intend to use the screws.

The green power light in the middle should then flash every minute to show it’s active. It’s a very small flash so hard to make out — I videoed it just to be sure (I can only submit one video, so have included a still to show that it does work – though it’s so small it may be hard to see in the photo!). This imperceptible flash is a positive feature of course if you intend to install it in your bedroom.

The test button is also not obvious — you just press on the word “Test”.

It’s handy that I won’t need to keep replacing batteries, and it’ll last ten years. After ten years it should repeatedly beep 3 times and flash the Fault light three times. The Test facility tells me the circuitry works fine, though in the absence of any carbon monoxide I can’t say how well the actual CO sensor works.

As regards where to put it: you can place this alarm within a metre or two of the boiler IF you can hear it from your bedroom. If you can’t, then mount it in your bedroom. I plumped for head height opposite our gas boiler and away from doors and windows, but will get another one to place in the master bedroom. Once it’s attached to the backplate you could carry it around as a portable detector, but it should really be kept at head-height. It comes with two rawl plugs and screws for mounting, though it’s light enough to use a double-sided adhesive pad to avoid putting holes in the wall.

4.0 out of 5 stars Straightforward installation, circuitry works fine
