AIRAJ Bypass Loppers 43cm arrived in a cardboard box. They are very sharp and cut both wet and dry branches easily. The handles provide a good grip and are long enough to reach high branches without a ladder. These loppers are very strong and make gardening tasks easier and quicker. Overall, they are a reliable and effective tool for anyone needing to trim branches.
was perfect for pruning branches and hedges that had grown out of the neighbours yard and into ours. Length is good as I allows me to reach areas that would typically be out of reach for a normal pruner.
Our hedges are so long and tall we have to get the professionals in for the ‘big chop’, but this means we’re left to do the tidying up the rest of the time for ourselves and I think these loppers will do the trick very well. I’ve had a go with them on our yew hedge, which is notoriously difficult to keep under control, and our beach hedge which isn’t quite such of a challenge. I managed both with ease, managing good, clean cuts first time and with no discomfort to my hands. I wish the handles could have been longer so I could reach some of the higher branches, though. As I’ve only just begun to put these to the test, I can’t really comment on their durability but I shall be using these throughout the summer and hopefully will be back to award that fifth star.
perfect use of this, I have not had any struggles using it to cut thick branches or weeds so I’m happy on that side of it. Would have been nice if there was more grip along the side of all of it.
I own regular sheers with the help of which I manage to trim and form the fir/cypress trees in the back yard, but some of the top branches weren’t a match for the poor sheers, so these bypass loopers made my last trim a lot easier. They did good job with some of the thicker top/side branches and cutting them proved to be quick and clean, as they are bypass – you don’t really feel strain as you work, as they amplify the force. Keep in mind that cutting wet branches is always easier and requires less force; as far as dry branch cutting goes – the loopers are going to help, but anticipate more effort on your side. The maximum branch diameter (according to the seller) for these loopers is 30mm; the blade is sharp and it’s coated, thus – the blade stays cleaner longer and also ensures better gliding effect resulting in better, cleaner cut. The handles are made of aluminum, making the tool lighter in your hands with comfortable plastic and silicone grips. The dimensions make them very compact and easy to hang them almost everywhere when you need your hands free (not the case with bigger tools). The bypass mechanism is simple and looks sturdy (all steel, I think) and it should last long if used appropriately.
These loppers are good quality and work really well, making light work of cutting thick branches. These lightweight loppers are easy to use but do need some space. Opening the handles fully wide takes a lot of space, and if you’re trying to trim thick bushes, you may not have the space to cut the branches.
These loppers are a little shorter than I expected so take note of the size of them, They cut really well and the ratchet design does help with the ease of cutting, They are lightweight and due to the rubber handles are non slip. I can’t fault them at the moment but they do look a little cheaply made so I’m not sure how long they ill last but for the price they are a decent buy.
These loppers are really sharp. I use these with a lot of caution as I didn’t expect them to be as sharp and effective as they are.
They’re lightweight, so they’re easy to use for a long period of time.
They cut through thick branches, which is exactly what I needed them for.
The only negative is that the plastic covering on one of the handles moves up and down when it shouldn’t. This makes me question the quality of the whole tool.
This set of small loppers arrived in a simply branded cardboard box and the blades are protected with a clip-on plastic sheath. The loppers measure 42cm in length with the handles accounting for 29cm in order to give you the maximum amount of leverage. The jaws open to a width of 3cm and are perfect for cutting back smaller diameter branches.
The loppers feature non slip, orange-coloured, rubber handles which are ergonomic and mean you can use them in wetter conditions if necessary. The handles are also constructed from an aluminium alloy material which is relatively lightweight meaning you can use them for extended periods of time. The carbon steel jaws are Teflon coated for anti-rust and wear resistance and the ratchet design enables easier cutting.
The loppers are ideal for trimming back smaller branches and cut cleanly with the sharp blades and although I have only tested it on a few thin branches (approximately 2cm in thickness) the loppers didn’t have issues getting through them. The build quality feels durable, they are comfortable to hold and priced at 14.99 at the time of reviewing, I think this is a decent set of loppers which are a welcome addition to my garden tool collection.
My wife does like to prune the garden, and loves to snip off those stray, out-of-reach bits that can make bushes look a little uncared for. These are just the ticket!
I’m not much of a gardener; I’m happy to let nature take its course, and make a haven for wildlife. My wife prefers a managed wildlife garden. Usually, when it comes to pruning, a regular set of secateurs is sufficient, but for thicker offshoots secateurs are unsuitable. That’s where these loppers are needed.
To make pruning as effortless as possible, these loppers work identically to bolt cutters. This design means it takes very little force to cut through branches up to an inch thick. There’ll be no more sore hands in the morning!
Taking a close look at the tool, it’s clear that the parts have been stamped from a sheet of metal rather than cast. The tell tale signs are there: smooth and rounded on one side, and flat, well defined edges on the other. So clearly they are a budget item, but that does not detract from the fact that they work exceptionally well.
Where a pruning saw would normally be required, my wife was able to use these instead. Much cleaner cut, easier to use, very quick results.
Recommended.
This review is for the item described as “AIRAJ Bypass Loppers 43cm,Gardening Tree Loppers,Cuts 3cm Branches,Teflon Coated and SK5 Sharp Blades,Can Cut Dry and Wet Branches”.
I need loppers to cut back overhanging fir tree branches and other shrubs. I have found these to be pretty impressive. They are very sharp so cut through the branches I used them on with ease (seller says up to 3cm), they are really comfortable to hold and seem nicely weighted – not too heavy and tiring for my wimpy arms but they feel strong and robust. The orange handles are a bonus as I have lost a garden tool before by sweeping it up in a pile of cuttings.
These loppers are accurately described in the description and I believe they represent good value for money.
These loppers are not top quality but this is reflected in the reasonable price.
I only have a small amount of evergreen hedge to keep on top of in the garden and I find the length of the handles on these loppers to be spot on. I have had telescopic ones in the past which are overkill for my needs.
They seem well designed, the handles are comfortable and the blades are sharp.
I am not sure how they will stand up in the long term but they have done a good job tidying up the woody stems on my hedge on this occasion.
A bit shorter than I expected, but then I am used to my extendible handle loppers.
These look very cool, very stylish with their brushed aluminium handles with orange plastic coverings. Very lightweight which is good for usability but I wonder how strong they are.
They seem relatively sturdy and strong and the blade is sharp. I cut back some winter dead shrubs today with ease. The test will be if they rust and if the gears and blade are strong enough for long term use; we shall see.
Very nice addition to the garden tools.
These loppers were definitely smaller than I was expecting, though not necessarily a bad thing as they provide a surprising amount of leverage for cutting through tough branches.
I tested them on a variety of small branches and twigs, they sliced through a 3cm branch with ease. The gear design does help to increase the leverage, making them effective at transferring your efforts to where it counts, the cutting edges. They feel pretty strong, the grip is good, the blades are sharp and they are also lightweight, which is great when doing repetitive tasks such as chopping longer branches down into smaller lengths ready for the green bin.
A very useful set of loppers at a low cost, hopefully the materials used will prove to be of adequate quality so that they last for an acceptable amount of time.
I recently got my hands on these loppers, and they’ve become my trusty sidekick in the garden. Let me break down my experience:
Smooth Action: The ratchet mechanism in these loppers is a game-changer. It makes pruning a breeze. With each squeeze, you can feel the blades gliding through branches like a hot knife through butter. No more struggling with stubborn branches!
Sharp Blades: The SK5 carbon steel blades are no joke. They slice through both dry and wet branches effortlessly.
Handy Medium Size: The 43cm length strikes a sweet balance. It’s not too short to strain your arms, and not too long to be unwieldy. Perfect for everyday pruning tasks. However, keep in mind that these loppers probably won’t tackle anything bigger than about an inch in diameter.
In summary, these Loppers are a solid addition to any gardener’s toolkit. Smooth action, sharp blades, and a convenient size—what more could you ask for?
These loppers feel safe and secure in the hand and have superb rubber grips, so they comfortable to hold. Also, they do not feel too heavy for me especially when I raise them above my head to cut.
The jaw width is good and opens up to 3cm and will cut a branch of slightly less than that with relative ease.
These loppers measure 17 cm from the end of the handles to the top of the blades, so for me at 5ft 2in, should allow for branches at 7ft high to be easily accessed. It is not necessary to exert too much strength to make the cut.
Thoroughly recommend, especially at 14.99.
These loppers arrived the same day that I had my fig tree pruned for the first time by a professional tree surgeon. I usually do it myself, and to cut the cost this time, I opted to chop up and compost the branches myself. I usually saw the bigger branches and use secateurs to chop up the smaller ones, but it looks like I’m going to be able to tackle most of it this time with these bypass loppers. I couldn’t believe how they sliced through the branches, and they really do make easy work of even 3cm branches.
As I’m small and elderly, it’s important that these loppers are lightweight. I enjoy pruning, and once I get going, I find it hard to stop, so it’s also good that they have soft rubber, non-slip handles that are comfortable to hold and, hopefully, won’t tire my hands. I like the bright orange handles too – easier to find when you’ve put them down somewhere in the garden and can’t remember where!
I only have a small garden but have lots of shrubs and climbing roses to prune, so these bypass loppers are a very welcome addition to my collection of garden tools.
It’s almost end-of-winter pruning time and I will be adding these loppers to my collection of tools for pruning/controlling trees and shrubs in my garden.
I have tested them and am impressed by the sharpness of the blades and ease of use. For cutting through green stems they are perfect.
I would have awarded 5 stars were it not for the misleading images in the product listing. A comparison with my photo shows that the seller’s images exaggerate the length of the tool. When I unwrapped the loppers I spent some time trying to work out how to extend the handles so that they matched the photos. It was only when I used a tape measure that I realised the loppers are the advertised length and do not extend.
Following my initial disappointment I am now pleased that the loppers are short as the length makes them much easier to carry around.
PROS
-very sharp, they cut well
-I like the geared mechanism to add leverage
-handles have a good grippy feeling
-handles are substantial, they will last
-at 14.99 at the time of this review, I think that these offer good value.
CONS
-gears are not the best design: they are thin (if any of the pivot points loosen, they will stop meshing for sure), and their metal is of a soft type. I fear they will wear quickly
NOTES
-these are pretty low-end, but I think will do nicely for at least one season (I have a lot of trees to prune in my garden).
MY STAR RATINGS:
1* substandard, mostly cons
2** barely acceptable, cons outweigh the pros
3*** meets the basic requirements, cons balance the pros
4**** good product, pros outweigh the cons
5***** exceptional, all (or almost all) pros
