This beautiful and heartfelt drama is such an original piece of cinema. The lead actors are super in their roles and the film is well scripted and directed. As for the packaging and blu ray quality it’s excellent and the booklet that’s included is a nice touch as well
Love Chow. He and Cherrie Chung have great on-screen chemistry. Brilliant balanced romantic comedy drama, with sprinkles of pathos.
I have this on a HK dvd with pretty average out of sync English subtitles, and am really looking forward to getting the blu ray. I saw the restoration version at the bfi in Jan 2022 and it’s looked brilliant.
While fans of Hong Kong legend Chow Yun-Fat are probably looking forward to remastered Blu-Ray releases of his more famous films, I’m especially eager to get my hands on this delightful romantic drama. It’s a very low-key film – just the way I like it – and has left an impression on me ever since I saw it twenty years ago. The two leads are excellent as is the idea of taking them from the familiar setting on Hong Kong and plonking them in 80s New York. I’d highly recommend picking this up!
