When I tell you this saved me having barely anything to give my man at Christmas He wouldn’t ask for anything and suddenly I remember at the last minute that he wanted a uke and never got one. This arrived in time, is fantastic quality, everything promised. He was very happily surprised and that’s all I could ask for!
For one thing, it arrived five days early, so now I’ve got time to start to learn it before my first ukulele class. This should also give it time to get in tune, because as everyone says, it goes out of tune while you’re tuning it; this will presumably continue until the strings have stretched and the instrument has settled down. Nevertheless, it’s possible to learn three chords and play “You are My Sunshine” almost immediately – ask me how I know. So far I can’t fault it; if things change, I’ll update this review. Right now, I think it’s great. It arrived well packaged, in a ukulele-shaped box within an Amazon box. The only off note is that I can’t get the tuner open to insert the battery! But I found a tuner on You Tube. Update: I managed to open the battery case and insert the battery. Very useful to have the tuner right on the instrument.
Case is cheap but good for storage in the house, the strings are good quality and easy to see with the coloured option. The picks are flexible and easy to use. The booklet that comes with it is basic and seems to be translated into English. But there are plenty of resources online that are better such as the Chordify app. The uke has a bright sound. The strap is rubbish as it doesn’t actually attach to the uke, it has a big hook that hooks the middle which doesn’t serve the purpose as it’s hard to play it when the strap is on as it interferes with the strings. Overall I use it daily and was a good cheap starter instrume
I bought this for my teenage daughter. The ukulele is good for beginners, along with the booklet and the tuner. The booklet is just 4 pages, but it shows how to hold the ukulele and how to strum, and all the chords, which is basically all you need to know. The only issue was that at first tuning the strings took a very long time and the first few days it had to be tuned every couple minutes. My daughter did a bit of research online and realised that new strings often need a few days to get used to being stretched. This is apparently fairly common with most ukuleles, and after the first few days the ukulele only needs to be tuned once a day or so, which makes playing a lot more joyful, and my daughter has already learned a couple of chords. There are a couple of reviews here which say that the instrument had to be tuned every couple of minutes, if people were made aware that this should improve after a few days it would have saved them a lot of frustration, and the seller some returns. Someone also said there was no battery for the tuner or they couldn’t find it at first. It is there, not in the tuner, but separately in the box and might be easily overlooked.
Four stars because I suppose people who are knowledgeable about musical instruments will see some differences to an expensive ukulele. However for people like us who have never played a string instrument before and want to learn the basics and are not sure whether their kids will keep at it or lose interest after a while I think it is very good value for money, and I would happily recommend it.
