I really like how they made this kit. I’ve started switching every controller I use to clicky face buttons, and this is the best designed kit I’ve used yet. Hopefully the replacement membrane pieces hold up to abuse, as that’s an issue I’ve run into before (as written below)
I’ve used kits on my regular Dualsense controllers (solid kit), Xbox series controller (not my favourite, but usable), and steam deck (mostly solid design, but the replacement membrane spacers don’t last long I’ve had to swap the abxy one out and then put gaffer tape between the x button and the spacer because the x button gets hard to click)
When razer first released the Raiju it was the first controller I used with clicky buttons. I loved that controller for rocket league. Fast inputs on the x button allowed for snappy flicks and quicker double jump aerials and pops when carrying. Unfortunately that controller broke after a year (stick drift + L1 bumper plastic cracking) and I wasn’t paying $150 a year in controllers. PS5 released the edge. A perfect solution for me, why spend $70-$150 on new controllers when it’s functionally fine except the analog sticks that are prone to wear? Brilliant idea from Sony and excellent execution but, the buttons felt mushy. Very weak and unresponsive, worse springyness and more spongy than the typical ds4/dualsense controllers for some reason. The kit perfects the already good controller. It did take me a couple hours to get used to the new buttons. I was mispressing and trying to double press and single pressing.
Overall, Extremely pleased with ExtremeRate’s products, price, and tutorial install videos. Only one thing, the color coding in their video for screws confused me as it didn’t seem right. I just rewound to the disassembly part to see where the longer black screws went. Installation was way easier to install then I thought. If you have patience, a steady-ish hand, and can follow simple instructions it’s fairly easy, way easier than I thought when first watching the install video. The Kit is 10/10 so far. Rocket league is my life (sad I know) so I’ll update after a few months on durability after a couple hundred thousand clicks.
(update).
I was a bit placebod in my initial review. I don’t really think the controller is noticeably snappier with inputs. It’s a negligible gain. Some mechanics of rocket league relies on rhythm (wall dashing, quick shots/flicks) and the stock membrane buttons ‘springyness’ like how the dualshock 4 is, I preferred for things like this. That said, the clicky kit is still way better than the stock edge with its mushy buttons. The slight responsiveness of the buttons is a plus with the rhythm spring of the membrane a slight negative as well (for my game). Still my favorite controller was the ds4, but the edge replaceable sticks is why I still use it over rebuying ds4s. I also installed the matte red edge body and buttons. It seems slightly better for not sticking to buttons (though this could’ve just been me getting used to the kit.) unrelated note; the l1 r1 in the edge body from extremerate is way mushier and has more travel than the already mushy stock buttons and it’s a PITA to remove, if you get the body don’t bother with the l1/r1s.
