A Redditor tipped me off to the fact that these also fit the Mobapad M6 HD Joy-Con replacements for Nintendo Switch. (The M6 HD’s sticks are fine but turn yellow REALLY quickly.) On the M6 HD, they install easily with no tools—just pop off the magnetic faceplates, pull off the sticks, push on the new bases, then select your sticks.
I do wish this set included more stick choices. For example, after going through nearly everything, I think I prefer the short set, but you don’t get two convex short sticks—only one convex and one concave. I set the convex to the left and concave to the right, which works alright, but would have preferred them both to be convex.
Easy to install and they make it easier to play games. Better grip especially when your axis have worn out already. You can quickly and easily change the caps out once the base cap has been installed. It’s honestly really great and I’m so happy for products like this.
Good accessory for FPS games.
The install was straight forward, but not for the faint of heart. If you watched disassembly videos and know what you’re doing, then it shouldn’t be a problem. I didn’t have an issue with my PS4 controller, but I’m an avid DIYer.
Pretty cool that you can switch stick height easily by just popping out the thumbstick and stick in another one. The only downside though, is that the thumbstick gets used way too quick and it doesn’t stick to the thumbstick base anymore. I solely used the one for FPS games, higher height, it got used just by playing with it and it doesn’t stick to the thumbstick base anymore. It always pops out without too much force now and is unplayable. For now, I just stuck some tissue between the base and the stick and it seems to stay a bit better. Suck that once all my thumbstick are used like that I will have to disassemble the remote and remove the base all over again.
The thumbstick is comfortable overall. The top feels a little like hard rubber so it has good sensitivity.
Overall, good product and interesting feature to be able to switch thumbstick quickly, but it comes with the downside of durability.
I liked eXtremeRate’s PS4 paddle mods but I was already doing my own custom paddles for that Gen so I didn’t really get on board. The new way they are doing the PS5 controller paddles however is really amazing and reasonably priced, so I decided to go full eXtremeRate on all controllers (4 so far).
When I saw these ThumbGear I thought it was a great idea, especially for someone that is new to the concept of different thumb stick sizes. I went through many KontrolFreeks before I found the height I liked and which thumbstick I like it on, so this ThumbGear would have saved me lots of money in my experimentational weeks. Since all my PS5 controllers were already customized with other eXtremeRate mods and KontrolFreeks, I put the ThumbGear in my 2 new PS4 controllers that were never modded and since I already knew I only like it on the right stick, I installed one in each controller. Having a taller stick on the right side is typical for shooters since you can put your sensitivity higher than usual but retain the control and precision of slower sensitivity. It takes a bit of getting used to, just like paddles or any other mod, but totally worth it once you do.
These ThumbGear are just like everything else I’ve tried from eXtremeRate, well thought out and designed. They work great and without breaking the bank. Would definitely recommend, especially for players new to this concept, this is a much cheaper way to experiment. I would suggest putting both in one controller at first so you can figure out what you like and you can always move it to another controller later since nothing about this mod is permanent and is 100% reversible.
Edit: Leaving orginal feedback below, but the company reached out to me after reading this feedback and took care of me by sending another set out. Turns out I did most likely just get a one off issue. The replacement has no issues with sticks popping out, and I really do love the feel of these sticks. Put them on a flydigi vader 3, and they for sure feel better than stock as far as movement, but I’m absolutely in love with the feel of the short concave stick for movement, I can’t imagine it getting much better than these.
I don’t understand how a company like eXtremeRate can allow a product like this to go out. While there are many things I really really like about this set, none of it matters when the sticks keep on popping out during gameplay. I won’t even be touching the thumbstick and it will pop out while my fingers are on the buttons on top of also popping out when I’m using it.
for the sake of the company and everyone else that buys these, I really hope I just got a one off faulty set.
