I’ve had exactly the same Joseph Joseph knife tidy for several years and my only reason for purchasing this one was that my OH inadvertently placed an egg slicer in the kitchen drawer which normally is stored elsewhere, on top of the knife store causing the whole drawer to jam and it had to eventually be forced open, resulting in both the knife tidy and egg slicer to be completely damaged beyond repair hence purchasing this new knife tidy.
I love kitchen utensils, especially kitchen knives as they can make cooking so much easier and this knife storage aid is a very practical way of storing them safely allowing easy and safe access to the desired knife.
The knife tidy fits nicely into a regular kitchen drawer and holds up to 9 smaller knives in the top section and theoretically 9 in bottom section but I’d say that 9 would be a little on the crowded side with 9 large knives with thicker handles but fortunately I have only 5 large Victorinox kitchen knives so while it could take more, 5 is very practical and easily stored.
Having had one of these for several years I can thoroughly recommend them and as soon as I damaged the old one, without hesitation I re-ordered a new one immediately so that speaks for itself.
It’s a well thought out and practical way of storing sharp knives in a drawer so buy with confidence.
This is a must for your kitchen drawers. Used to be a dangerous job rummaging through our utensil drawer, now all knives are together, nearly and safely stored. Bonus points for being able to see the handles! I have odd knives, no matching sets, but bear in mind if you have a matching set you either need to put them back in the same place every time or go through them all one by one. High quality and easy to clean (been ok in my dishwasher)
I recently purchased a new chefs knife and vegetable knife but did not want to use a knife block so I measured my drawer and found that this Joseph Joseph knife DrawerStore Knife Organiser would hold upto 9 knives and so I thought I would give it a go.
It looks like it will hold more than 9 knives but you can put up-to 5 longer knives in on the lower rack leaving an empty slot between each knife. Then in the upper rack you place the knives along the line of the empty slots not used by the lower. In-fact you could alternatively use 4 longer knives on the bottom and then 5 shorter knives on the top to make the maximum 9 knives.
On the lower deck I have a two chefs knives, a vegetable knife, a bread knife and carving knife and then in the upper rack I have placed 4 shorter knives. These all fit well.
When I open and close the drawer, the knives stay in-place and the knives are easy enough to remove and replace after each use.
There aren’t many frills with this device, for example the slots are wider than the knives but the organiser is in a drawer and does seem to do the job to I am happy with it.
I’ve considered getting one of these to free up the kitchen side so we don’t have to have the knife block.. I can’t mount knives to rental tiled kitchen. And this seemed logical. Fits with plenty of wiggle room; but doesn’t wiggle or move. Easy to use. Not yet had to clean.. Had it a month or so and one of the best things I’ve bought. Plus looks so expensive I got called a ‘posh bugger’ – I’m so not posh lol love it. Get it. Don’t question the price. Just get it and go.
I purchased this Cutlery Drawer Organizer for my cozy kitchen. I didn’t have a designated place for my cutlery, which is why I needed something to place near the sink. It fits perfectly. The material is simple plastic, nothing fancy, but it’s quite practical and reasonably priced.
Bought two of the larger ones for my cutlery drawer. Really useful and space saving! I bought all knew cutlery for 12 people so I have 6 of each type in each section with still room for more, could probably fit all 12 in one section except the table spoons are abit tight with only 6.
My only peeve is that the top section I have the tea spoons in is labelled as knives and the knives don’t stay lauded down due to the weight of the handles but other than that silly little detail it’s brilliant !
It gives more draw space
My cleaners Cons
I have to take all the forks out and line them up like I have OCD
It not easy to clean and dry
The only thing that fits in it okay is the knives and teaspoon
If one spoon is out of place the forks are out of place then the draw won’t close
I still want to keep it but I love my cleaner more so it might have to go
It holds all the pesky little children’s medicine spoons and all the other miscellaneous bits neatly and perfectly in the two large storage squares.
It’s a much better design than other utensil organisers as all the eating utensils are stacked on top of one another saving a lot of space rather than them all being side by side. The only issue is my drawer is slightly too low at the top so the big spoon handles scrape the bit of wood above the drawer. No big problem though, I can live with that. We just end up shoving the spoons in a bit skewwhiff and that solves the problem.
My only gripe is my drawer isn’t wide enough to fit the accompanying knife block (sold separately) so I’ve had to shove my knives down the side of the organiser. It’s a shame but obviously not the organisers fault!
I would HIGHLY recommend this utensil organiser. I’m incredibly pleased with my purchase.
I have a lot of cutlery so purchased 2 and have found that I can put 1 row of knives and 2 rows of forks & spoons into each slot. This is enough for around 15 knives and 25-30 spoons. They have also meant I have gained half of my cutlery drawer back for those other ‘odd’ items like a bread knife, cheese knife, butter knives and baking palette knives, so another win there.
There are a few downsides. The first is because I have a shallower drawer (actually it is the top edge of the worktop comes down into the drawer space more) and I found that if I used 2 rows of knives as I do forks and spoons, then they caught the top lip when I opened the drawer and stopped it opening properly. This is not a design fault of the tray but of the kitchen unit but is something to be aware of. The other is the little diagrams on the slots are hard to read and I am forever forgetting which is spoons and which is forks (the handles look the same). The final one is the cost. Each tray is around 15 usually, so getting the 2 has cost 30. As I said at the start, Joseph Joseph kit is expensive but well built. I wish I had spent the money sooner though as they have truly transformed my cutlery drawer and given me so much more space.
There is a sharp knife version available too. I use a worktop knife store so haven’t tried this, but design-wise, it is designed to match this tray, so will be worth looking at for those who keep sharp knives in a cutlery drawer – with an added benefit that the knives will last longer as they will be separated.
