Yes the hype is true. This is an excellent pedal that’s value for money and remains a constant companion in my setup. Have a look at the YouTube reviews and don’t hesitate.

Inexpensive and well made – any of the instruments I’ve used it with, it’s been good. Very responsive and not noisy. The only downside is that it has no overall level control, but pushing up the faders gives plenty of extra db and (again) very little self noise. Works on mains 9v or battery. Good value – add a level control it’s a 5 star.

I bought this as it was the best value octaver I could find and this was the same situation when I bought joyos compressor. Both are surprising for the price, even without factoring in the price I like them. Some of the dials aren’t as aesthetically pleasing as say EHX pots but they don’t feel like they’re going to break.

This thing is seriously on when it’s on, turning it off even when I have two other overdrive/fuzz pedals on you super notice a drop in high end when you turn it off, if anything how powerful the effect can be means you need to be careful what you mix it with or how you transition in and out of the sound.

It did not turn my bass into a guitar but I can get so much high end fuzz and gain from this that it screeches just the way I want it to for my psych project.

Great range of overdrive tones available.
    Very sturdy body
    Easy to use
The bypass mode works well — totally quiet
    Great price
You’re going to have to pay lots more to improve on this.

    -VES

It’s a good job the bypass mode is so effective — because ‘on and not playing’ there was background noise
I’ve had nicer feeling foot buttons.

    Classic is spot on!
It sounds like my old Maxon made Ibanez FL-9 which is now carefully mothballed away for nostalgia trips.
Is it built like the Ibanez? Course not, it’s thirty quid, but looked after, I’m not worrying about it.
It does a really really good fast leslie cabinet sound and carefully set up I’ve gotten really close to the coveted 80’s John McGeogh/Magazine/Banshees, Robert Smith/Cure and Andy Summers/Police sounds, and they used MXR, Boss and Electro Harmonix respectively, so your thirty squids is getting a lot of mileage.
If you need a flanger, just get this and be done with i

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThe Joyo American sound is an excellent Fenderish pedal. It appears to be a copy of the Tech 21 NYC Blonde, but as someone who has also owned that pedal, it’s a little bit different. The voice control sweeps mid frequencies in conjunction with the gain control to allow a range of Fender Twin, Fender Deluxe, Fender Bassman, Fender Tweed tones, but it takes some time to work out how all the knobs interact to fine tune the sound. I use the pedal with an additional external IR into a PA, but it works well without an IR and sounds good enough for going direct. Much harder to run into a conventional guitar amp unless you can bypass the preamp, but still works that way as an overdrive pedal. It’s not exactly the same as the superficially similar Caline American pedal and the Joyo has a battery compartment which can be useful. A remarkable pedal for the money and well built. Perhaps the best cheap guitar pedal on the market?

I could not believe how something at this price can sound so good. I have a UA Ruby pedal (Vox AC30) on my live board which is fantastic and i love, but it was more than ten times the cost of this pedal. I wanted a Fender voiced amp pedal and thought i’d just at least try this as all the reviews were great, i didn’t expect it to be so good. Direct into the PA from a cheap DI box it is stunning on it’s own, without any Boost/OD pedals, with them it’s more fantastic again. I’m using a good quality PA (HK) playing live which i’m sure brings out the best in it, but still i was knocked out at the sound of it. I read reviews where people were putting it through the front of a guitar amp and were disappointed with the sound, that’s not it’s intended use, it’s a guitar pre amp and cab sim pedal that just needs a power amp stage to give it the required volume, I couldn’t be more impressed with it, absolutely great quality and ridiculous value.

if you know what a phaser does, then skip this first bit, for newbies or gift buyers read on…. a phaser is an electric ‘foot’ operated pedal box that you plug a guitar or other instrument into then connect to an amplifier, when activated it takes the sound in and alters the phase of the sound depending on the setting resulting in a pleasant or not (opinions and players vary) distorted sound heavily used in the 60s – 80s. for the rest :- pedals like people are not all created equal and phasers are no diferent. i have tried phasers included on multi effect pedals, with wide varying results, but even the best multi effects only allow for 1 effect at a time. single effects range from nails on a blackboard to subtle but mortgage level master in a box. I needed a good phaser at cheap price, scoured the ads and settled on this, metal body, no battery, single knob what had I done ? WELL lets see, metal body, great, no horrific cracking if used with divers boots. No battery, double edge sword, theres the inconvenience of a mains connection , but theres no battery to die mid gig. Single knob, easy to set up, adjust, mark with a sharpie done, instand reset if its disturbed and none of that knobs for volume, gain, attack, decay, tea strength, beam up/down. one knob simples. Sound :- the level of the effect is done by turning the captain proteus 1940s – 60s sci fi style knob, which is just the right amount of sensetive. tones are right on spot. on/off stomp button is crisp. This isnt a 9.99 flimsy unit that hurts the ears, neither is it a 200 symphony in a box, its a cheapish effects pedal that does its job and does it well.

This isn’t my first JOYO pedal, I was lucky enough to be given their reverb to review and I liked it so much I bought a King of Kings, so when I bought an even cheaper chorus pedal & it completely failed to work I knew which brand to fall back on and this JOYO chorus doesn’t disappoint.

As with every JOYO pedal I’ve encountered the build quality is superb, all metal and nice big retro style control knobs that you can easily see at a distance. The sound is great, full and bright with no noise (provided you’re using a decent power supply). The only thing I would say is it’s big, in fact it’s the biggest single pedal (the KofK is a dual channel) on my pedalboard, so it does take up a fair bit of real estate.

I can’t believe a pedal this good is available at this price!

I have used amp simulators in the past and have always sent them back because they were too expensive for what they did, or I just didn’t like the sound. This includes Boss units that have amp sims, Palmer, Line 6 and TC Electronics. For the price of just one of the variations of the TC Electronics units, you can have all three of the variations of these Joyo pedals, AC 30, M*rshall and F*nder, I bought the AC 30 version.

It has a nice solid metal casing and smooth feel to the controls. The manual is very brief and doesn’t explain fully all of the features, but hey, work them out for yourself! No battery is included, but it can be powered by a standard effects pedal 9 volt, centre negative power supply. I use a Boss one.

OK, some reviews point out the fact that the Cab Sim can’t be switched off, so not so useful if you’re playing into an amp rather than a mixer or PA. Also, on bypass it seems to lose a very small amount of volume, but no big deal. I am NOT sending this back, I LOVE it! 30 quid well spent.

    UPDATE:
Having used this for a number of small gigs as a “boost” pedal when playing directly into a Bose S1 Pro, the sound is clean enough when the pedal is activated, but the bypass is definitely NOT true bypass and causes a certain amount of unwanted distortion in the sound. One star removed!

This thing is fantastic. I’ve been looking for a drive pedal for my Fender Princeton Tone Master, and the previous Joyo I tried (Ultimate Crunch) was a fizzy, unstructured mess if you dialled in a little too much gain – which wasn’t very much at all. But this is very different, and produces a range of very authentic Marshall tones if you spend a little time with the EQ. So I now have classic Fender cleans and natural breakup, plus glorious Marshall crunch and growl, in one rig. Don’t get hung up about the people who say you can’t use an amp/cab sim pedal into the front of your amp – of course you can. This is in the middle of my signal chain between my Tubescreamer and modulation pedals. I’d have been happy paying 100 to get these sounds; at 30 it’s an absolute steal. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Marshall in a Box

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersIf you are seeking an unfussy, solid, great sounding tremolo pedal, and don’t want to break the bank, the Joyo offers all those things in a rugged, attractive package.

I spent some time researching the options, and watched a few of the product comparison videos you will quickly find if you search, concluding that this was the one to try first.

Now integrated into my pedal board, I find this a completely satisfying tremolo sound, and everything about the physical presentation of the pedal points to a unit that could just as easily be priced closer to the 100 mark.

The pedal offers true bypass, which is an important feature for a quality pedal. When in operation, it has a nice vintage feel.

Often with music equipment you get what you pay for, but there are now many absolutely credible alternatives with guitar pedals at far lower prices, so don’t be tempted to think this is cheap sounding.

    It sounds lovely.

I’d seen all the reviews saying how good these are but never got round to buying one to try until now. What it’s not outstanding at really is as an overdrive/distortion pedal, it’ll do that yes but there are better out there. Where it really shines is using it set pretty clean as the ‘amplifier’ part of a fly rig pedal board. I use it in the effects loop of a Nux Cerberus set like that and it just sends everything to another level.

I dislike lower end digital amp modellers anyway but this 30 analogue box sounds brilliant as long as you accept it’s a one trick thing – it’s a damn good trick though!

One thing I will say is that I put off buying one as people go on about it having an inbuilt cab sim that you can’t turn off. My advice is forget you ever heard cab sim mentioned and just turn the knobs until you are happy with the sound, there is more than enough adjustment scope that you will never really notice.

It’s well made, you can feel the resistance in the knobs. I’d like knobs like that on my guitars but then they are all EMG plug in wiring, which works fine but doesn’t feel great.

Maybe the click is a bit 30’s worth?

I bought this because I used to have a love pedal plexy. Which I used to ghost in front of my Blackstar amp, where it just made it pop, hard to explain. It’s like greasing up your sound so it flows and has more definition, making it less effort to play.
I gave that pedal away and missed it so this was the replacement.
Yep, it does what I need, but I’m hardly driving it.
Great that it has the three band EQ.

For the money you can’t really go wrong if you’re looking for something like this.
There’s deffinately some cool sounds coming out of that box.

Really nice pedal for DI into a audio interface, sounds great to me. I only have two issues with it, one is that it gets quite noisy past 3 o clock position on the drive knob, and seems to pick up radio signals, but you really don’t have to push it past 3 o clock. If you want more gain, you can use a boost, it doesn’t boost the noise like the drive knob does.

The only other issue is the built-in cab sim can’t be turned off, so it’s not great as an overdrive pedal, which is a shame, since I believe the pedal it’s based on later added a cab sim toggle. If they ever make a V2 of this pedal series, they need to include that! It would make it even more versatile and much more usable with an amp. It would mean that you could use a vst IR plugin, or you could plug it into a cabinet, or the power amp section of an amp without having the cab sim clash with the real cab. It would increase the versatility by a lot.

Also, Joyo, if you’re reading this, is the pedal designed to be used as an overdrive, as well as a DI? Or only DI? Because on your UK website, it doesn’t really mention that you can use it like a regular overdrive pedal into a real amp, it makes it seem like you should only use it as DI, but I believe the pedal that this is based on says that you can also use it as an overdrive, because the cab sim isn’t too strong. But it doesn’t say this on your site.

Other than that, it’s great for the price, and I’m probably going to buy the American Sound too!
