This laptop bag from Newhey is made from a black textured synthetic material with neat white stitching around the edges, including those of the handles and the detachable strap.
There is a lengthways zip across the top which closes off the inner storage sections from access above, although a hand can still be pushed through the gaps at either end if someone wants to.
Inside the storage area is another zipped compartment suitable for purses and other valuables. This part could also be used to store a modestly sized tablet device. A full-size laptop can be stored in the dedicated section, which has protective padding and a retaining Velcro strap across the top.
There is yet another zipped compartment, this one being just big enough for a purse or mobile phone.
In addition to all of the aforementioned storage locations, inside the bag there are two sleeve-like sections for whatever else you want to carry – papers, make-up, a book, a packed lunch, etc. There are also another two small pockets alongside pen holders, plus a net type storage pocket at each end. Outside of the bag there is yet another sleeve-like storage pocket.
The strap is strong, adjustable and fully removeable. The bag feels like good quality and is of a very useful size with plenty of flexible storage options.
The bag comes wrapped in a plastic bag and, as others have noted, it smells of fish, which is a pity as this is a good bag. A fishy smell is characteristic of PU leather so we left it opened up and outside for a few days and the smell is nearly gone. The bag is strongly and neatly made, with strong seams, good quality zippers and fittings, and sturdy metal feet on the bottom of the bag. The bag is fitted with strongly attached carry handles and an attachable, adjustable shoulder strap. The shoulder strap doesn’t have a shoulder pad which is a pity as you can get a lot in this bag. The front of the bag has a full width pocket held closed with a strong magnet. The interior has a full length zipper closure and has various sections, including a padded laptop/tablet area, pen pockets, open pockets and a zippered pocket. There should be a key ring holder, which mine seems to be missing. The bag easily takes A4 folders. This is a versatile, good looking bag, endlessly useful, so it’s a shame about the initial smell.
Having read other reviews for this bag I can only say that mine came without what appears to be the obligatory smell. It was, in fact, completely without odour. Is something wrong with mine?
The faux leather looks good, but even at first glance it does not look like real leather. I expect the plastic to Be more hard wearing in a bag that will be in constant use. It will be ideal for protecting my laptop, replacing a now rather battered black nylon case. This tote bag could have been a little larger. When filled with laptop, charger, bag of extra drives, miniature projector, my phone, handbag, a couple of files and spare bits and bobs it does rather bulge. I would have also have liked the interior to have more pockets so that I could be more organised. I do try!
My one real criticism is the shoulder strap which needs a movable pressure pad. When filled with what my colleagues unkindly call my “junk” my tote bag is rather heavy.
This is a nice versatile tote bag, large enough for a laptop, associated cables and of course the paperwork we all seem to need during the day.
The leather is pleasant to the touch and strongly stitched with a comfortable handle and shoulder strap, whilst the bag itself is made of a textured leather material with a pleasant tactile feel.
Whilst there was a slight smell, this was almost a leather sort of smell and after being outside the wrapping for a day is no longer noticeable.
A note to the supplier, the photos on the Amazon page with the models holding the case don’t quite look right and look rather too photoshopped, I could be wrong, but the scale of the bag makes it look larger than it is in life.
Okay so this really does smell fishy. BUT I did find the smell mostly went away after airing it out by the window and I used some perfume to get rid of the last remnants of the odour. It’s not ideal but this is a problem common with faux leather so I’m only deducting one star for this issue, even though I did find it inconvenient and wouldn’t have taken this bag outside without getting rid of the smell as I’d worry people would think I was the fishy-smelling one.
Nonetheless, it’s a nice, strong bag. It has a LOT of space, which is exactly what I need as I have to transport my laptop often but I get paranoid about keeping it safe. This easily fits my laptop, big A4 notepad, and all my random bits too. The quality is pretty nice and the straps feel sturdy even when you’re carrying quite a bit of weight in it. It looks stylish too.
I think it’s for you to decide whether the fishy odour puts you off. It can be eliminated but you have to invest a bit of time and as stated, faux leather commonly has this issue when packed in plastic. I’m personally glad I invested this time but I am a product tester so please think whether this is something you’d like to do if you’re spending your hard-earned money.
