I’ve always wanted a good quality printer that is easy to work and doesn’t take up too much space. I’ve bought a few printers over the years but either the ink dried up quickly, expensive cartridges, takes up space or they stopped working. Then I found this printer and it’s super awesome. Just charge it and that’s it, no cartridges no mess no fuss. Okay it takes special paper but it’s not expensive and the quality is exceptional. You don’t even need a computer. I’ve got the app on my iPad and it works great with Microsoft word. Top marks. Honestly if I could give it ten stars I would
This printer won’t dry up ink. It prints great. The app is great. All functions work flawlessly. You can take a pic and within a minute have it spun around on the app and exploded on to full screen size then print.
11/10 for this. It rocks.
I live in a flat and no room for a big printer .. I only need to use occasionally and wow it’s a fab bit of kit ! Amazed at how it prints and easy to set up ! Took 5 mins with downloading app and away you go !
This printer is just brilliant.
Set up smooth and easy.
Printed document first no issues.
The hen went on to print a black and white photo of my dog. Which came out just amazing perfect.
Highly recommended
This thermal printer may seem expensive but you never need to buy ink just thermal printing paper. I bought this for my Daughter, who attends a lot of meetings & thought it would be great to print things instantly. You just need to make sure its charged and its that simple. I bought it with a case so its protected when being moved around. The only issue I found is that you have to be able to feed the paper in fairly quickly r you end up only getting page 1 and then end up printing the same thing again but with practice I’m sure that will improve.
I use a printer maybe once every 2 or 3 months, and when I do, the ink has dried and its useless. This is the perfect solution. A little bit more expensive to buy the unit, but then more inks to buy EVER. Print quality is just as good as an ink jet printer as well. I am well pleased with this printe
I was looking for a printer that I could put in my back pack for the odd form that I had to print from time to time. I have to say that this is great. I had my doubts but the connectivity is great and the image quality is excellent. As it is heat printed, time will tell how long the quality of the printed page will last. Also, the paper is very thin but of good quality. Look, you are not going to get the features of a large printer in an object that’s a little bigger than a large pencil case but what it does do is give you good hard copy on the spot with no wires or ink needed. BTW, the paper is relatively cheap and easy to get as well.
Love this printer! The size is fab, it’s super easy to use and it’s more versatile than I was expecting. The thermal paper is pricey, however it won’t become uswless like printer ink does, which is the reason I bought this. I hardly ever need to print, just a handful of times each year if that…and I was fed up with spending money on ink that just became useless due to not being used enough. I kept my nice old HP printer as a scanner and the thermal one sits happily in a small space on my desk, in its nice velvet case they include. It was fully charged on arrival as well which was really good, as I could get stuck straight in with getting the app and testing it. They also send a few sheets of thermal paper to start you off, although I had also purchased a ream of that. I am good for the next few years now, really happy. Yes these printers are more expensive, but worth it for the convenience and lack of waste.
The instructions are easy to follow and connect to your device via bluetooth.
You get about 3 – 4 sheets of thermal paper with it which is handy (however, i recommend getting more just in case).
I got next day delivery and it came on time.
It takes up less space than an average paper printer would.
Prints in black & white only.
It doesn’t print until the paper is added to the machine, the thermal paper will say which way to hold it.
Insert the paper into the machine and it will automatically roll it to start printing what you have set to print on the app.
Overall, im really happy with this and i will never go back to brick-like printers.
I use this printer for tattoo stencils, I’ve used pocket jet in the past, didn’t fancy getting a new one and I’d say there isn’t much difference in the quality of the stencil image so long as you load the paper correctly. The image I’ve used on this review does have some scrunch lines but it’s because I let the transfer paper just slide through on its own I find if you keep hold of it as it’s coming through it’s fine.
I really wasn’t expecting great things but there are YouTube videos on this particular printer so I purchased and I’m really pleased with it so far!
The only thing that bugs me is the app, it doesn’t let you resize the image so you have to adjust it on procreate then send it to print from an iPad/tablet or phone unless you want a large stencil that is. Hope this helps.
EDIT***** you can now edit the size of the image via the phomemo app!! 🙂 it’s been updated!
Unboxing:
The box is a branded, white box that slides open similarly to the apple watch series 3 box. Inside the box you are greeted by the printer, held in place by some rather high-quality foam to protect the printer during shipping. Included in the box you get the printer, a high-quality cloth carrying bag for protecting the printer, a USB C to USB A cable, instruction manuals and a USB thumb drive including the drivers required for use on MacOS and Windows.
Setting up:
Setting the printer up is extremely easy. On iPhone all you have to do is scan the QR code on top of the printer, download the app, connect to the printer, and print what you want. Setting up on Windows is slightly more difficult. You need to either download the drivers off the included USB thumb drive or you can type in the link on top of the printer which will take you to a website where you can download the most up to date driver available. Once you go through the setup for the drivers, all you need to do is plug the printer into the computer and click print on the app you are using.
Printing and quality:
The print quality is great for text, and I was surprised at how well it can print photos in black and white. The print speed is quick and similar to the speed of a standard inkjet printer. This printer is great for a home office or on-the-go. Battery life is great, you can print quite a lot of sheets before it runs out of energy. This printer, being phomemo, will most likely be very reliable. No need to worry about paper jams or the printer roller lines that most laser or inkjet printers eventually develop. The printer feels high quality and well put together, even compared to a similar priced printer from another manufacturer.
The battery life lasts a long time with use. The small form factor is great for backpack portability.
The printer is very well packaged and easy to open. As you can see from the pictures it even comes with a soft carry bag to keep out dirt & help to prevent scratches and a handy USB memory stick (loaded with drivers etc).
I fully charged the printer before first use and it probably took about 20mins from a basic USB wall socket outlet.
Downloading the app to your phone is simple and installing the Windows driver was straight forward. Connecting the supplied USB cable to your computer allows you to print from Word etc as you would any other printer.
Performance is as you’d expect from a thermal printer, some may say it’s noisy, but considering there are no ink or toner cartridges to replace – that’s a good trade off in my opinion.
Don’t expect inkjet quality photos to print from any mono thermal printer – but to be honest this printer renders them pretty well and gives quite an ‘arty greyscale’ feel to them.
Text and documents are clear and crisp.
In combination with a mobile phone and an eInk tablet – this will enable me to fill in PDF forms / invoices, have them signed by the customer, save them then print them a copy from the mobile app, all within minutes!
Also will be great for sketching out designs on the eInk tablet, printing them via the mobile app for the customer to keep.
Very compact machine that takes up little room in the rucksack – now I can print anywhere!
5x sheets of thermal paper are provided for your use and testing.
I found a pack of 100x A4 sheets of thermal paper for under 10. Cost per sheet is more than standard paper, but again once you factor that no ink or toner is required AND the convenience factor – it’s pretty good.
I certainly wouldn’t print off a whole manuscript, not only because of the the cost, but as each page is seperately fed into the printer it would take a long time!
But that is not the purpose of this compact little marvel! Portability and convenience are the order of the day here, and it performs admirably! Well done Phomomo.
I’m a big fan of Phomemo thermal printers, I have a label maker and a photo printer from them and can’t fault them. I use them in home organisation and arts and crafts.
Due to my job, I often need to print an invoice or a standardised letter on the go. For reasons beyond the scope of this review, digital copies are not permitted. So I was keen to find a way to be able to print a page or two every so often without having to go back to the office and printing and then sending through the post. So for me this was a worthwhile purchase.
Pros
– Good size and comes with a velvet carry pouch, which is a nice touch. It’s a bit heavy but not to the point that it compromises on portability.
– Print quality is decent for text and simple logos. I printed a test page and was actually quite impressed.
– Prints very quickly.
– As a thermal printer, it doesn’t require ink which is undoubtedly the most costly aspect of running a regular printer.
– It connects seamlessly to my iPhone and my laptop. The iOS app is quite easy to use and it offers a lot of options and some fun graphics.
Cons
– Only prints in black and white.
– It is quite fiddly to get the paper straight but you get the hang of it eventually. So far I have gotten the paper at an ever so slight angle a couple of times but the printer didn’t jam -the print was just slightly off.
– Thermal paper is quite expensive.
– You can only print on one side of the paper.
Overall, I think that if you have a use for it, it is a great solution.
Personally, I bought a bundle of 100 sheets of paper for around 20 and they will probably last me a year or two as I will use it sparingly. Without the need for ink, the running costs are on par with a regular, non-portable printer. The price of the printer itself is on the high side, but it is a quality product and one of the few offerings in the market right now.

Printing is quick and officiant if you do it right on my first try the paper went through very smoothly
Nothing happened bit of a blonde moment put paper in the wrong way round even though it clearly states THIS SIDE UP on the paper itself.
Take two of printing paper in THIS SIDE UP
Press print paper comes out of the other end looking at the other side is something wrong have I done something wrong it’s a very faint print out#SchoolForTheGifted when you turn it over oh very good print out.
No cartridges required which is a bonus and make it more transportable.
The negatives paper is not the best quality quite thin
Not much selection of paper but might be something that improves as time goes on.
