Golden Review Award: 2 From Our Users‘Single White Female’ is a cracking film that I’ve been taken with since first seeing it in my late teens (and I’ve never looked at black stillies the same way again).

Bridget Fonda has real star quality, and Jennifer Jason Leigh plays unhinged with believability.

The only concern is the film’s name. I know that this film was released in 1992 and that every country has rascism, but seriously America, advertising for a flat mate by mentioning your skin colour is beyond the pale (no pun intended).
    Seriously America?

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersIf you know the lion king and you know the hyenas you’ll know what I’m talking about. It’s all chills this film. I’m not happy paying what I did to watch it as I have it on DVD somewhere just couldn’t find it. No great film, fantastic chic flick with a difference. i.e. violent and creepy not the one to watch if you think this is about best mates. I can’t recommend it enough but don’t want to give too much away. If you like a good thriller with the odd twist then watch it. It’s a classic and even their style and clothes are still okay how many years after release. Pure class up there with Fatal attraction and the ilk. Grab your popcorn and enjoy a hide behind the couch moment or two.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersI just watched this years after seeing the original version in the 90s. Great film but indulge me a little rant here. Watching it with fresh eyes, I can’t help but notice the underlying mysogyny in this film. I’m referring to the masterbation scene. Why is it that all female psychos in films do this on screen and it appears to be some kind of red flag that they’re dun dun dun…… PSYCHO! I mean, really? Men would never do such things, I’m sure *eye roll* and if they did in films, it is certainly not portrayed as some kind of psychopathic marker. Why is it that any woman expressing any kind of female desire or enjoyment of sex is immediately portrayed as a psycho? It really, really annoys me. Heaven forbid women should enjoy sex in any shape or form (as men are allowed to, and frequently and freely do in film) because if they do, they clearly must be psychopathic or insane/damaged in some way. Think about it- films like fatal attraction, basic instinct, the temp, disclosure, deceptions, the witches of eastwick, catwoman etc all portray women who are unapologetic about their sexuality as being either bad, psychologically unhinged, murderers, or evil, needing to be punished. Moreover, in films where the female character suddenly becomes sexually aggressive, it is only because she is going through some kind of evil transformation. The “good” women are the ones who keep their desires quiet, hidden and unfulfilled. Men, on the other hand, who are unapologetic about their sexual desire are labelled as heroes – James Bond, I am talking to you.

Sorry, but nope. Clearly, we should all be chaste and view sex as some kind of duty to perform for the sole enjoyment of men. Right. Rant over, now I’m off to show my ankle to the chimney sweep like the harlot that I am.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersTurn around and ten years have passed you by, this is came out 23 years ago and it only seems like yesterday, how time flies, that is. . . if there is any such thing as time, but that is another one of my interests as you will see if you scan though all my reviews. There is no point in my writing about this film which is so well known and documented so I need to just say whether or not I liked it. . .

A terrific film, the DVD sits in my favourites collection.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersOh how I love this film! It’s so creepy and the main obsessed character is played out perfectly by the actress. It appears to me that she could have BPD (Borderline Personality Disorder) and definitely has obsessive issues – something I know quite a lot about, having suffered for many years. But of course the character has much more than just BPD wrong with her, as it would not drive her to such terrible actions – on the contrary, mental illness does not make people vicious or turn them into killers as the press may like us all to think. So it’s kind of half and half – a look at some symptoms and a fictionalised nasty character. All in all, a very entertaining film.
