I’ve only used the secateurs for 2 hours or so but they seem very capable so far. Used toaday to hard prune a cotoneaster and a Forsythia that have grown to big. They’re quite comfortable, no pinched skin between the handles and have a good sharp blade. Not bad at all for cheapish secateurs.

Having never used a pair of compound action secateurs before ive been quite impressed with how smooth these operate and that there is less effort required compared with standard secateurs.

Being winter I don’t have much to trim in the garden, but they made quick and easy work of cutting our Christmas tree up. I also cut back our Magnolia tree and some of the branches were quite thick, but they still managed just fine.

They open up just as wide as my standard secateurs and they are comfortable to hold. I haven’t come across any issues while using them.

Overall, while I am impressed by how easy and smooth they are to use, I feel for 30 they don’t represent the best value for money compared with other similar brands out there. Apart from the price it’s a product I’m happy to recommend and I feel four stars is appropriate for them, buy with confidence!

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice quality, comfortable and easy to use!

Secateurs are one of those things I think are worth paying a bit extra for, since I use them a lot and a decent pair can make a big difference to the ease of cutting, the strain on my hand and general time required to complete jobs in my garden.

These one from Spear & Jackson look and feel well made. They came on minimal packaging, with the only bits of plastic being a cable tie and a cover over the blades.

The upper grip has quite a hard rubberised surface on the upper part and the lower grip is all metal on the bottom surface. The safety catch is an easy thing open & close action. Personally, I don’t find them that heavy or cumbersome to use and I don’t have particularly large hands.

Cutting a variety of different type and sizes of shrubs, roses, branches, etc, but I haven’t got into the full swing yet this year. So, I had a limited time using them. The action was relatively smooth and the blade is certainly sharp. It will be interesting to see how well that holds up with use. The handles do open quite wide – as you csn see from one of the photos I’ve uploaded with this review

I used gloves and didn’t have and issue with grip. Without and with a wet hand, you may have issue with the metal bottom of the lower grip.

As to how resistant they are to rust, that isn’t something I’m in a position to comment on at this point in time.

I’ll just finish by saying that I’m no Pro-Gardener, Home gardening guru or expert on these things, but I do know if something is sharp, cuts well and isn’t too hard on my hand.

I hope you found this review & photos interesting, informative, and useful. Thanks for reading

These are top quality secateurs and S&J flagship range.

They are bypass secateurs and made from carbon steel. The grips are really comfortable and have a good weight in the hand. The compound bypass action gives the gives the cut extra power and it will cut through almost 1 inch thick branches effortlessly.

The blade is very sharp and one side is much larger than the other offering a clean cut with do damage which would allow disease to possible set in. They are expensive, but are probably worth it long time as I expect they’ll provide years of reliable use.

Fantastic quality secateurs from Spear and Jackson and yes, they certainly live up to their Razorsharp name. They are a good weight and have such a good grip on the handle and are very comfortable to use, extremely sharp blades and have a safety lock. I’ve used them on a quite large shrub that was getting too big and it cut through the half inch woody branches easily and quickly, they made such light work of a job I wasn’t looking forward to. I cannot fault them, they do a brilliant job easily.

These really are razor sharp secateurs! They’re solid bit of kit and built to last. They’re ergonomically sound and the compound action works perfectly, ensuring less effort is needed for a clean cut. With a locking mechanism (needed given the sharpness of the blade!), these will be getting a lot of use in my garden and allotment for many years to come. They are well worth the extra outlay over inferior unbranded secateurs. They have a generous 10 year guarantee.

These razorsharp secateurs lived up to their name. They are very sharp and gave a clean cut without crushing the stems of my roses. My grip is not as strong as it once was and the compound cutting design did help when cutting the thicker stems when pruning and i found using them less tiring.I particularly like the positioning of the thumb operated sliding locking button that made them easy to lock and unlock.I would say these are quality ,easy to use secateurs and with their strong metal construction they should last for years.

If you do a lot of gardening, these secateurs can come in very handy.

They are easy to use and very strong and sharp. For smaller twigs, they cut straight through and they do manage on thicker stuff however you may need a bit more effort to cut through.

In your hand, they are quite comfortable and it is quite a nice shape to be able to easily apply a good amount of pressure. Overall, I would recommend them.

Used this product extensively on Sunday to cut through ivy, brambles, and holly in the back garden. It was able to – with some elbow grease on my side – cut through heavy ivy stems up to about 1 inch thick with no real trouble, and with absolutely no effort on things up to 1 centimeter thick. Really clean cuts, very little pain in my normally quite painful hands caused by the cutting, and just overall very satisfied with the product.

Many secateurs come at low cost but are usually lightweight and flimsy, and tending to wear out with heavy use. These Spear and Jackson ones are lightweight alloy with what looks like decent steel blades. The handle is comfortable thanks to a good ergonomic curve and a little bit of silicone on the outer of the handle which is used against the palm of the hand.

In use I found the blades cut well — rated up to a 15mm maximum cut — but like most users I’d be tempted, and confident, with using them for slightly wider twigs and branches.

The price is well above the cheapest available but they look decent value for money considering they are well made, cut well and look like they will last a good few seasons.

These are a quite solid construction, have a bit of weight to them and look the business. There is a safety locking toggle on the top and the grip is really nice and comfortable. I have tried these out on quite thick branches ( three quarter of an inch diameter ) and they cut through it like butter. As stated they seem to be of a quality make and will hopefully last a long time

I have a few sets of secateurs. I tend to use them on branches that are a bit too large to the detriment of my hands. I do it because it is a pain constantly changing between my secateurs and loppers. These are some serious secateurs from a brand I trust. I have no doubt they will make life much easier and will be able to easily cut through both larger and tougher branches. The only issue I could see, is that the handles open very wide. Not a problem for myself but I do wonder if they will be comfortable in smaller hands.

These are great. They’re expensive compared to some of the offerings off the site but you’re getting a very high quality product. As you can see on the video they pretty effortlessly cut through quite thick branches.

They have hardened carbon blades so should stay sharp much longer than a cheaper pair and they’re razor sharp. One handle is rubber coated and one metal. Which I guess is to avoid blisters. They have a decent spring, not too much resistance. That means they’re easy to open and close. The safety catch is easy to operate. Not too stiff. They’re also from a well known and reputable brand.

If you want secateurs that are easy on your hands, will last and cut through stems like butter, these are for you. You’re also supporting a British company. Easy 5*.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very sharp and very well made.

I was needing new secateurs as I have problems with my hands and wrists which means I don’t have a strong grip and I was finding my previous ones too difficult to use. These have been just what I was looking for in that department. They are a bit lighter in weight than some but still seem sturdy. They are ergonomically shaped so sit in my hand well and I can hold them easily, even with a light grip.
The top part of the handle has a matte, soft finish which feels comfortable when gripping. There is a locking mechanism on the top which clicks back and forwards to open or lock.

I am most impressed with how little effort it takes to use these. A gentle squeeze is all that’s required to close these when cutting stems and thinner plant and shrub growth. These are intended for cutting thinner branches up to 15mm diameter and cut cleanly through the green branches I tried them. I haven’t had the opportunity to try them on tougher woody branches yet but the super sharp blade should hopefully manage them with ease. Will update when I’ve been able to try that aspect of usage.

Im not the greenest fingered person – actually I hate gardening but I needed some small secateurs to help prune back the thicker branches of my fern tree hedge, which then helps make it easy to trim with hedge cutters during the year.

So on initial feel is they are sturdy handle appears to be mostly aluminium with plastic surrounds (top slightly rubberised) main blades were pre oiled and appear sharp.

Tested with their prey so to speak and a nice clean cut with no need to exert a lot of effort to cut. Cutting action is counter levered ‘Compound Action’ so not just a direct cut as such which I think is why it felt easier to cut with them.

Locking mechanism works well and is much easier to engage and disengage then previous ones Ive owned

At just over 21 at time of getting these it appears you get what you pay for as these do have a lot of quality over the cheaper made ones.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for pruning back hedge
