I bought this to search for a lost gold ring with emerald and diamond in the garden. I found it very quickly.
Now, I have become an amateur detectorist and I love it.
It is an efficient machine, easy to use.
Quick story, ever since my boys have been young children they have obsessed over finding treasure. From the age of 7 they’ve had metal detectors. They kids dectectors seldom worked, I use to throw down coins when the boys weren’t looking and they find them but only after placing the metal detector pretty much on top of them. Well, the boys are teenagers now so I put hased so more expensive ones and guess what? That’s right they too sucked. So I returned them and bought this one expecting much of the same. Imagine my surprise when we discovered it actually worked. Great product for the price.
Easy to assemble, came with batteries (which I didn’t expect). As a novice bit of equipment worked well for the price point. However the little shovel that came with it isn’t the greatest for digging in soil areas but would be ideal on the beach.
Bought the sun power metal detector not used it as yet but a nice piece of kit for the price happy with what I’ve got will put another review up next wk when I’ve used it on beach while on holiday
This is a perfect metal detector for someone starting out.
it’s extremely easy to use, my husband has joined a few organised groups & been on days out detecting. So far he has found quite a few coins , one of which dated back to 1918! its light weight & comes with a carry bag too.
I would definitely recommend this metal detector if you are starting out with this hobby.
While this is a little above 100, it is relatively on the cheap side. The depth it can detect metallic objects won’t be as good as the more expensive detectors. I think the deepest item I found was about 4 inches, a Fanta can. The depth is dependent on the type of object and size. Personally speaking, for beginners, this is ideal. At some point, I will consider a more professional detector. I did contact customer service for additional info, quick response and info very helpful. So, you have that just in case.
To date, we’ve used it in anger twice and while we haven’t found any Viking treasure yet, every time we’ve stopped to dig, we did find something metallic. The unit gives off a different tone for different metals and the display gives an indication of depth and composition too. This is really useful when deciding when to stop and when to move on. The sensitivity can also be adjusted, we started with it on maximum but soon realised that reducing it slightly gave us more consistent results.
It takes 2 9 volt batteries which are still reporting as full after 2 sessions. You can turn off the backlight on the display to conserve power. The sensor is waterproof as advertised, I’ve used it along a river bank with no problems.
My only niggle is that the coin indicators across the top of the display show American currency which is obviously irrelevant in the UK, unless you’ve dropped your American change somewhere. That said, the wider category indicators (Iron, Aluminium, Gold, Silver) are enough and if you’re familiar with American coins, you can make a reasonable guess at what a similar coin in your respective locale would be.
This also comes with a nice little folding shovel which seems well made and works well. The carry bag will take the detector in one piece provided it’s adjusted to be as short as possible. I did find that slinging it across your back did become painful after a while due to bits poking me, so I’d recommend splitting into 2 parts if you’re using the supplied bag (which has plenty of space for other bits and bobs).
To summarise, this met all of my expectations and I’m totally satisfied with my purchase. I’d absolutely recommend this to anyone wanting to get into “detectoring”.
