I recently added the tripod to my photography gear, and it has quickly become an indispensable tool for capturing high-quality videos and photos. This monopod combines the strength and durability of aluminum construction with the versatility and smoothness of a fluid head mechanism. The sturdy build ensures stability and reliability, allowing me to confidently mount my camera and focus on capturing the perfect shot. The fluid head feature provides seamless panning and tilting, resulting in professional-level footage with smooth movements and precise control. Whether I’m shooting interviews, vlogs, or nature scenes, this tripod consistently delivers exceptional results. The adjustable height and flexible angle options offer versatility in composition, enabling me to adapt to different shooting situations effortlessly. The quick-release plate system allows for swift camera setup and adjustments, optimizing my workflow and saving valuable time. Furthermore, the monopod functionality adds an extra dimension to my creative process, providing a lightweight and portable alternative when a tripod is not practical.
It’s a pretty good option for on-the-go photographers and vloggers. The detachable pan-tilt head is smooth and easy to use, which is great for framing my shots. The hidden phone holder is a great feature. It keeps my phone secure while I’m using it as a camera. It’s super lightweight and portable. Folds up nice and compact, making it easy to toss in my backpack and carry around. However, it feels a bit wobbly if I’m using a heavy camera with a long lens attached.
I already know and trust the Tarion brand as I’ve got one of their huge camera backpacks, one of my favourites in fact.
I’ve also been on the look out for an extremely lightweight but normal sized tripod for my travels, as every gram counts in the suitcase. This tripod is just that, at 55″ and 630g. I thought I’d done well with a carbon fiber tripod but that weighed twice as much, so I’m really pleased with this from Tarion.
I won’t be using the phone holder but I’ve included it in my review photos.
My only worry, bearing in mind this will be used with a Sony a7iv and a multitude of GM lenses, is that the bottom legs are really, really very thin. I don’t think the tripod would fail of its own volition, but I certainly wouldn’t expect it to hold up well against a knock from something.
Tarion is a brand that makes affordable camera accessories which I’ve used before in the past. However, I’ve always held mixed opinions on their products. Some have worked well, others not as much. This particular offering by Tarion falls into between the two.
On the positive side, It’s a lightweight, portable and flexible tripod that’s easy to set up and offers good height when fully erected. The detachable head offers good flexibility allowing for smooth pan and tilt motions and interestingly, it features both a built-in level and a hidden phone clamp within the handle, which I personally thought was a clever touch as it does away with needing additional phone mounting accessories.
On the negative side though, while it works well and looks good, some of the materials used aren’t the best fit. For example, the adjustable head which takes the bulk of the weight from either a camera or phone is made entirely from plastic, which I personally find doesn’t have the required strength to hold the camera or phone in place at certain angles, particularly during prolonged filming sessions and the mount may slowly droop.
Although the legs are made from aluminium, they are a little thin and don’t seem stable enough. But overall, I would say this is a good versatile tripod, which does have lots to offer, plus it comes with a drawstring carrying case.
This travel tripod packs impressive functionality into its compact design. The built-in phone mount and smooth pan-tilt head make it ideal for vlogging or mobile photography. It’s lightweight, simple to adjust, and the extendable column offers a good height range. While it might not suit heavy professional cameras, it’s a fantastic value for most content creators on the go.
I should preface this review by saying that I’m not a serious photographer, so my needs are probably less demanding than some.
The first thing you notice about this tripod is that it is very light. I own another tripod bought many years ago and while this one is longer when collapsed it weighs about half as much. The tripod is stable enough with nothing attached but, being lightweight, if you attach a big expensive camera it might be a bit top heavy in windy conditions.
The telescopic legs have an interesting arrangement where each section can be locked/unlocked separately, this helps to ensure that the legs are the same length when extended to one of four possible heights. There is a tiny spirit level on top of the tripod for ensuring everything is level.
Cameras are mounted with standard screw fitting and there are also fold-out sprung jaws that can hold a phone. I wasn’t entirely convinced by the grip on my slippery iPhone as it tended to slip when attaching it but it seemed secure enough once in place.
The build quality feels good and you get what seems to be a fairly hardwearing drawstring carry bag with a handle.
Serious pro photographers with lots of gear may find this insufficient but if you want something to use with a phone or a GoPro while travelling, and you have space for it, this could be ideal.
I thought this would be good for two purposes: Landscape pictures on my phone and using my laser level around the house. It works well for both of those but I do agree with other reviewers about it perhaps not being sturdy enough to hold a heavy expensive DSLR camera. When folded it’s surprisingly small and lightweight, easily small enough to store around the house and carry in a hiking pack. When unfolded you get quite a lot of adjustment in terms of height which is especially handy for the laser level – no more finding something around the right height to rest it on. The legs extend outwards multiple times and the stalk of the camera mount also extends for a little more height.
The built in phone holder is pretty handy so you don’t need to carry any extra attachments and it folds down nicely into the handle, a well thought out design. It does have a standard screw which attaches to my laser level but will also suit most DSLR cameras out there.
I wouldn’t use it outside in a windy day but for a calm day or around the house it works perfectly. I’m not sure I’d have paid the current asking price of 43 though as there are some more heavy duty ones out there for a similar price, perhaps with the disadvantage of being less portable mind.
The tripod head is removable to replace with a different head, unless you want to switch to a ball head, you’ll likely be satisfied with the jack-of-all-trades head on this tripod.
The tripod shoe is removable to easily screw onto your camera etc., the shoe holds my Canon 1300d with a 55-250mm STM ll lens and lens hood securely, not a heavy setup, panning around is smooth, only jerkiness because of the next issue.
The legs snap securely into place after pulling out each section by a large clip. I own a lot of tripods and bar the ones that cost two or more times, their is wobbliness when all 3 sections are extended, this tripod is no different but this one, with only 2 sections, the legs still flex inwards, the only time this disappears is if the legs only extend once. Extending all 3 legs has zero flex with light setups with a smartphone or a compact camera unless you press down on the tripod.
The tripod is very light and portable, you could hook this onto a backpack and not know its there.
While i have tested this with my camera, i also tested this with a 70mm MAK spotting scope (pictured) and a 80mm telescope, 2inch diagonal and a 100 degree eyepiece, the spotting scope is self-contained, no extras.
Although i only have the legs extended by two sections, not the lowest, this way it was at seating hight and was ok with the telescope which was pushing nearly 3kg, the spotting scope (pictured) was less than 1kg within the claimed supported weight of 2.5kg. Both pan around smoothly but the legs are far too bouncy for video, for photo, you may need to let its settle, the tripod head is quite strong, the pan handle makes it so much better than tripods without one.
The tripod and tripod head come as 2 separate pieces and both fit in the tripod case quite snuggly.
This tripod would be best suited for a phone or a small compact camera, anything expensive would feel insecure on this tripod, i do feel that this is overpriced, there are cheaper stronger tripods out there.
