I bought this to serve as an interim between my cordless Bosch strimmer ~ possessor and rapacious devourer of pretty useless plastic blades ~ and my petrol Stihl KM55R ~ certainly the best multipurpose garden tool I’ve ever owned but it starts to get heavy after an hour or two.
This battery strimmer is light enough to work with for a fair amount of time and having two batteries supplied is a big bonus. Full recharge takes around 2.5 hours and runtime will obviously depend on what you’re asking the blade to cut but a respectable amount of work can be achieved.
The metal cutting disc is effective but I was surprised there’s no clip-on safety edge cover supplied to cover the blades on the disc when stored or just moving it from one working area to another. I can’t speak to the quality of the plastic blades supplied as I’ve not yet tried them ~ but they are a LOT beefier than those on my Bosch strimmer and have a far better defined cutting surface. Ditto the two rectangular metal blades which are supplied with a (fairly blunt) cutting area present on both sides of the blade so they can easily be reversed when one edge dulls. Although I’ve already put a sharper edge on these, once again I’ve yet to try them ~ but I see no reason why they shouldn’t be effective.
Regardless of which cutting blade you use, it is essential to remember to tighten the blade nut using the supplied tools or a suitable spanner/socket.
Whilst the nuts do at a glance appear to have a very basic form of locking capability in the last turn of the thread, I’d definitely prefer a nyloc nut and may indeed replace what was supplied, although I do give the manufacturer credit for supplying spare nuts, screws and washers along with a screwdriver and a suitable socket tool.
Being able to alter the angle of the cutting head is very useful and easily accomplished as is the facility to adjust the length of the aluminium pole that forms the body of the device.
Downsides?
It’s nice that gloves and safety glasses are supplied, but they are both on the lightweight side and I certainly don’t know if the safety glasses meet current U.K. regulations ~ but they’re better than nothing.
The instructions are also a bit on the basic side: e.g. I was certain I’d bought a strimmer ~ but according to the user manual, it’s an ‘electric mower’ with the majority of the text on the front cover requesting the buyer give ‘great feedback’ i.e. not less than a 4* rating.
You learn something new every day.
It’s certainly not as bad as some I’ve seen ~ which seemed to have been translated from the original Chinese by a North Korean rice-husking peasant who hadn’t actually seen whatever it was being described and was unlikely to ever own one ~ but as long as you take care assembling it and even more care when using it, you should be ok.
Remember, Safety First; this device is only designed to cut grass, weeds and light shrubs/hedging. It’s NOT for trying to fell trees or slicing through thick woody branches and stems. It’s also definitely NOT the sort of tool one should be waving around when either animals or young children are in the vicinity and off their respective leash.
Enjoy!
Well packed.
Easy to assemble.
2 battery, so can use one while other charging etc..
Only downside, was safety goggles broken, no damage to double packaging, but one arm missing from safety glasses, so more care needed on quality control.
I love my battery strimmer. Light and easy to use and the battery lasts. Easy to change the blades but not impressed with the plastic cutters. Great on nettles, dock leaves and buttercups.
The negative.. it could be a few inches longer.
