Switched to a 65 keyboard but need a numpad for data entry. This thing is very clicky and a blast to type on. The added functionality as a standalone calculator is awesome.
There is almost nothing about this product that I dislike. It’s as close to being perfect as I could ever imagine, a standalone number pad could be.
From the weight, to the look, to the feel, turning the knob pushing each key. Watching the red display light up with every button push. It is simply the most fun. I have had with a keyboard since I was a kid playing on my first p.C.
Even if you just want to use this as the coolest retro calculator that money can buy, which it is, you will not be disappointed. Buy one for your children. Buy one for your friends.
Everyone who comes into contact with. This is simply delighted by the experience.
I don’t know of another product that I can say that about.
Everything is top-notch about this device! I love the clicky-ness of the keys, and the old-school nintendo look. It really is a beautiful piece of technology!
The only thing is that I wish they had raised the screen to be on the same plane as the tops of the buttons. When leaning back, it can be hard to see the numbers, though this is a very minor complaint, not worthy of taking even 1 star off.
Aprs seulement 1 journe d’utilisation je peux dire tre agrablement surpris de la qualit du produit, le prix semble lev j’avais donc de hautes attentes qui sont pour le moment combl. Je recommande.
I have a 65% keyboard and have been looking at getting a numpad for a while. This is really cool and does the job beautifully. Great that you can use it as a calculator whenever you want aswell. The keys feel nice and it’s made well
I only bought this to use as a calculator, because I miss the LED displays of the early 80s. As a bonus it looks great in the NES color scheme. The buttons have a nice clicky sound. For the price it seems like a very fair deal.
I do a lot of number entry/adding/subtracting at my at my desk, and as I lefty liked the idea of adding a numpad to the left side. This let me ditch my calculator, and increase my entry speed using my dominate hand. Been really happy with it so far. I keep it wired, it seemed to loose about 10% battery a day, but that may have been due to me not turning it off when I left work. The red retro LED display looks really cool when using as a calculator as well.
There are some valid complaints to be leveled against the unit, but as a plugged in numpad I’ve had no issues. The calculator feature is nice, but I’d kill for a memory function and/or a second line of text. I’m a bigger fan of the style of key switch in here than on my main keyboard and may end up buying a set to switch. Overall all a fair bit of travel with great feedback. The color scheme of course is going to be polarizing, it’s either nostalgia inducing or nothing.
I’d definitely recommend this if you need a solid mechanical numpad with a few extra features.
As a combo calculator and numpad this device is immaculate. Display is bright and easily readable, however one key feature is missing which is why I can’t give 5 stars. Most 2 in 1s allow you to use the calculator then send the result to your pc with the press of a button (tied to a Send button and some companies call it resultsync). Hopefully this feature is added in a firmware update.
I have been using this at work for a week in a position where I used the numeric pad often. I don’t think it is worth moving down to 4 stars, but the only disappointment for me is that there are only 9 digits on the display when using it as a standalone calculator. I deal with numbers in the 10’s of millions and need to go out to the penny so the standalone calculator feature is limited for me, but it is still useful from time to time. Those who would use it for smaller amount would have no issue. I really like the connectivity options, the battery level readout when powering it up and the button to bring up the Windows calculator. The layout of the function keys may take some getting used to. I hit the backspace key often when going for another key, but that will work itself out with use. The dongle for wireless connectivity (assuming Bluetooth isn’t an option for you) is held very securely with a magnet so losing it would be almost impossible during transport. In summary, I am very pleased with the unit so far and only wish it had been released closer to when the keyboard was so I could have been using the fantastic keyboard at work prior to now.
I had been wanting the 8BitDo Retro Mechanical Keyboard since it was released but I couldn’t commit to buying it solely because it didn’t have a 10 key option. I tried shopping around for 10 key alternatives but nothing was going to match the aesthetic and feel of 8BitDo. I had been waiting – hoping – they would decide to release a 10 key to go with it and the reality of it is more then I could have hoped for. The solo calculator mode with the LED screen is amazing! They look and fit so good together.
On top of that, it has great clickety-clack. I highly recommend it for the nerds like me who are working on their computer all day and need a little serotonin. This number pad is a must to go along with the keyboard.
Bought this to use at work where I do a lot of data entry and I needed a numpad. Ordered the matching Keyboard and waited patiently for this to arrive so I could use it at work. Needless to say the wait was worth it. Feels amazing, doesnt slide around on my desk and I love the fact that i can just pull only my keypad to me. Looks amazing to top it off. Only weird thing is the + key is a bit smaller than on a normal keyboard but after 2 days of use I’m already used to it. Also the calculator on the keypad itself is useful when you have 100 things open.10 out of 10 would recommend
You thought you wanted the 8bitdo Retro Keyboard in a full-sized model with a built in numpad, but trust me – you really wanted this instead! I love this thing way more than I thought I would.
Being able to switch to a standalone calculator is cool, and the display is legit. Looks just like one from the 70’s or 80’s. Also has a button to open windows calculator (uses auto hotkey mapping).
When plugged in via USB, the display will give you a readout of SoC% (State of charge in percent), as well as a readout of how many watts the unit is drawing to charge/operate. Really impressive touch!
Just like the keyboard, the ability to use USB, 2.4Ghz, or Bluetooth via switch is very handy is you want to use it on multiple devices sparing every time.
Now I see why they didn’t make a full sized keyboard originally. This is way cooler. Thanks 8bitdo, you’ve outdone yourselves with this!
