This keyboard will certainly give you your nostalgia fix, but it is also a top quality keyboard.
Connect via hard wire, wireless or Bluetooth. All the options you ever need.
I’m not a keyboard expert by any means, but this thing is just so neat and it feels very satisfying to type on. Sadly, I won’t really be able to take advantage of the two buttons and joystick, but I’m impressed at how easy they are to configure and how easy it is to do keyboard key swaps on the fly. Aesthetically, this thing is a 10/10 and I haven’t found any functionality that would make me reduce my rating. Not my favorite for gaming as the switches aren’t smooth enough, but everything is apparently customizable. Perfect for typing purposes.
This is a very solid, well-made keyboard that while yes, it does prey on your nostalgia, it’s also responsive, solid, and great to use.
Has a very nice clicky thonk that reminds me so much of using the c64 back in the day. The keyboard itself, like others have said, does feel a touch hollow, but it’s also very solid with some heft, so it doesn’t feel cheap.
The buttons and controller are programmer macro – a huge fan of the 2 giant buttons, especially for someone like me who works with spreadsheets and whatnot all day, super easy to configure for some functions I use all the time.
Battery charge has been great so far – it does help there’s no RGB, but even then, impressed so far with the battery life.
And on the subject of RGB, while it may not appeal to the folks who want flashier things for gaming, it is absent of any RGB lighting, however it still feels great for gaming, I definitely wouldn’t pass on it just because there’s so crazy lights.
At the end of the day, it’s a solid, well-built keyboard for a good price, that should make anyone happy, not just those looking for some extra nostalgia.
The look is spot on for a Commodore 64 inspired throwback keyboard. Very solidly built. Three connection types and a volume knob make this keyboard super convenient. The keycaps have a concave top that cups your finger when striking the each key and feels very comfortable. The box white switches are lightly clicky and feel amazing. Was planning on switching to linear switches for gaming, but this keyboard feels so good as is so it will be left as is as my primary typing keyboard. This is an recommendation 5/5.
Let’s get the negative out first:
This is a very loud keyboard. Very clicky, not to be used in an office environment.
Spacebar is louder than the rest of the keys.
Volume dial should have been a round dial only, since it’s a free spinning kind.
Included joystick is not great, it works, connection method to macro buttons should been something else than magnetic.
Now to the good:
Very easy to connect to your equipment.
Very easy to assign macros.
Has two macro keys directly on the keyboard.
Easy to build your own macro buttons and integrate them with the keyboard, since keyboard using 3.5 audio cables for macro button input, super simple to hack yourself.
Included two macro buttons better than I thought.
Easy to read big letters, I really enjoy that, but I also got bad eyesight.
Big keys, very easy to type on. The bowl-shaped keys make it really to hit the correct key.
I love the styling of this keyboard.
Would buy again.
So…I don’t know where to begin with, I usually do not write any Amazon Reviews, but oh man, I just got this keyboard and any excuse to type is a good excuse.
What can I say, I never owned a Commodore 64, but the looks, and key profile got me hooked, and dude, it’s amazing, it’s very comfortable. I love tenkeyless keyboards so this has been a perfect choose (for me, small hands, clumsy), it doesn’t have an adjustable one, but it’s got the perfect inclination, the keys are double shot and are made ofn PBT so you get the best of the best out of the box, and that’s purely objective.
And the last: The switches. These god dmn switches are soooooo goood, I come from a cherry blue switch keyboard (which are ok, any mechanical keyboard tends to be Ok in comparison of a membrane one), but these Kailh White switches make the Cherry Blue look like an extremely low tier type of switch. They are so smooth, so comfortably clicky, so much response and feedback it’s on another level, I’d choose these switches anytime and I owned, Cherry Black, Silent Red, Blue and Kailh Brown switches.
But IF you don’t like clicly switches: IT’S OKAY, it’s a HOT SWAPPABLE keyboard, that means you can always choose another type of Kailh switch, buy it and swap it without having to weld or unweld or anywhing; pull them, swap them, and you’re good to go (they have to be compatible, lol).
So, yeah, if you are wondering wether you should buy this and you have the money, then yeah, buy it NOW.
Needles to say, it’s a recent purchase, if a catastrophic failure happens I will update this review inmediately.
Cheers!
Switches are nice and clicky, and the massive plastic chassis gives a nice echo reminiscent of vintage keyboards.
The layout is nice and standard, and the concave keycaps make a nice change from what you normally find on most keyboards. The Super Buttons are great, but the included joystick’s base is too light, so it topples over during use which is quite annoying.
Software is very easy to use, and doesn’t have any of the bloat that you tend to get with modern gaming keyboards.
(also free stickers are a nice touch, and the cable is decent)
I initially thought this was a bit pricey but the reviews were good and I liked the look of it being a Huge Commodore 64 fan from back in the day 🙂
However when I received it you can tell right away this is a Classy Luxury Product.
It all starts with the Box .. ( 8bitdo never change your packaging )
The box alone feels expensive and just as much effort has gone into that as the keyboard itself which looks stunning and feels really solid oozing with quality.
The keys feel fantastic and overall a real pleasure to use also with so many options for connection.
I have nothing negative to say about this product although i really would like one of those transparent moulded plastic covers to pop on top of it to keep it nice and clean 🙂
Consigliatissima
Keyboard feels great. Extra controller is more novelty than anything else, but I do love them. 8BitDo make great stuff, and this is another home run. Love the C64 nostalgia. Keep it up, 8BitDo!
I like.
Wow, this keyboard is truly a dream to type on, no friction, keys very responsive and clicky. Only downside is it is quite loud but honestly it doesn’t matter as if this bothers you it is very easy to hotswap. Brilliant for gaming and extremely good value for money as well would definitely buy agai
Excellent Keyboard, the clicky feedback and feel is lovely. Be aware though that the keyboard is a U.S.A. Layout, so the @ symbol is not on the number two key and the GBP symbol is missing altogether. It does look like my C64 Breadbin and the extra joystick and buttons are a nice addition too. I have pre-ordered the numpad to get around the lack of that feature, but the keyboard is excellent and if it had the option of swapping the key caps to match the C64 UK layout, it would be amazing. I will be using this for a long time with my gaming PC to come. Highly recommended.
The colorway is great, and matches the original C64 well. The switches are not cherry, but at least I can replace them when needed or desired. That said the Kaihls actually feel really good (I have just had failures in that brand of switches in the past).
The joystick and buttons are quaint, and really awesome due to the way they can be programmed to mimic keypresses.
I don’t even uer the wireless features, but the keyboard is worth it without.
I would almost have paid that for the keycaps alone… which, although not signature plastics or GMK, are still decent with a nice sound and good feel.
