CAMMHD YX1 32GB 1440P/2K HD Body Camera
This body cam is the size of my palm, so it can’t be used discreetly. I like its wide angle, crisp picture quality, and good night mode. The screen shows basic time and date stamps, battery life, etc. The sound quality is loud and decent, depending on where the sound is coming from. It’s rechargeable thru USB C. It has pretty much useful settings for loop recording, motion detection, brightness, picture quality, and even the length of the video recorded. The password setting is another plus point, as it keeps the videos and photos safer. Videos, photos, and voice recordings taken can be accessed and deleted thru the device without accessing a computer, which I find very helpful and convenient. Overall, I find this gadget recommendable.
I ordered the 32GB version in the hope I’d be able to replace the included SD card with a larger one. When it arrived, I couldn’t find the SD card slot and thought maybe it’s not possible. However, it turns out it’s on the bottom of the device, covered by TWO stickers. Removing them reveals the microSD card, which you can then easily replace with a one with a bigger capacity. I’m pretty sure removing the stickers will void the IP rating, however, so mine is now basically not waterproof which is a shame. I think a rubber flap would have been better.
The camera itself is nicely made from good quality plastic. It’s a bit bigger than I expected and quite hefty so it’ll need to be attached to something quite firm so it doesn’t flop down and end up pointing at the floor. It comes with two clips. One is small and doesn’t allow you adjust the angle of the camera and the other one is bigger, slightly curved and does allow you tilt the camera up as required. I think the bigger one will be more useful. It simple enough to use even without reading the manual. It records video, photos and audio files and there are plenty of modes and options to set it up as you need, including overwriting old recordings so it can record forever (as long as there’s power, obviously). It even has a dash cam mode for use in a car.
It’s not HDR but it does adapt quickly and automatically to changing lighting conditions so it should be fine for capturing evidence is pretty much all situations. It also has IR LEDs for night vision in the dark.
Video quality is plenty good enough for the intended purposes (evidence gathering). The lens is quite wide angle but without being excessive to the point of introducing massive amount of distortion in the image.
Overall I’m happy with it, but I do wish there was a better system for covering the microSD card slot that would allow you to change it without ruining the waterproofing.
