While we don’t get a lot of super-hot days in the UK, the few that we get are pretty miserable, and I wanted something a bit more advanced than “blows air at you quickly”. While getting this aircon unit set up was tricky, it certainly packed a punch and lowered the room temperature fairly quickly. The fan is also very powerful, even on a lower level, so I could feel it from the other side of the room.
There are some non-dealbreaker issues with it though
– It’s super heavy and doesn’t have castors, so moving it was tricky
– The power cable isn’t really long enough, so you might have a hard time positioning it if you don’t have an outlet near an appropriate window
– It blasts hot air out the back even if you’re only using it as a fan, so your room is going to heat up if you’re not venting to the outside
– The instructions for setting up the vent aren’t great. I had to go watch a video tutorial
– It’s big and loud. Not the end of the world, but just finding a spot for it where it wouldn’t be in the way or drown out the tv was challenging. I have no idea where I’ll store it over the winter
None of these are huge issues for me, they’re really just niggles. It does the job it’s here for, and it does it well
Couldn’t turn down an opportunity for this with the heat we’ve had in London… It works a treat! Had no issues getting the room down to the set temperature – I believe the 7000 BTU rating. It was very easy to setup, with clear instructions, I was cooling within 15 minutes. It’s really compact compared to other units of a similar BTU rating, which is nice. Easy to store, and quite portable with the wheels (still heavy though!). It’s a little loud, but I think this is a fair tradeoff for the compactness. It does have a low speed and night mode to reduce sound too, so that might help, but won’t be as efficient at cooling. Price is reasonable for the quality here. Recommended.
This is a substantial and relatively heavy unit, but it’s on wheels so can be maneuvered easily.
It’s a bit of a fiddle to set up, with regard to the hot air and drainage pipe, but no more so than other similar units.
The remote is simple but very effective, batteries are not included.
Once up and running it really kicks out an impressive volume of cold air.
It cools a typical living room down really quickly.
The downside is that it’s quite noisy, certainly too noisy to have in the bedroom while you sleep.
It also needs to be placed on a perfectly level floor, if there’s any angle then water can leak out from the condensation pan.
Overall this is a very effective and good value aircon unit, it has its faults but at this price its hard to criticise.
I hope you find my review helpful.
Got this as I desperately needed air conditioning to survive the hot stuffy discomfort I experience in my loft bedroom. Works very well, is small in size and has great features (timer , can be turned on or off remotely).
It is loud but I don’t mind the noise. My room gets very cool within an hour of having it on. The only issue for me is the vent hose – it easily pops off from the back of the unit – I had to buy heavy duty tape to stop this from happening.
Overall great and very recommendable
I have wanted aircon for a long time because I absolutely hate being too hot, especially at night. In very hot weather I end up sleeping (badly) on the sofa downstairs. I finally took the plunge and bought this. It looks and feels very well made, and certainly blasts out cold air. We have solar panels, so on hot days I can run this for free all day in the bedroom and stop the house getting too hot in the first place.
It cools the room very effectively, but also does make downstairs feel a lot fresher too, even though it is a big space. I didn’t bother trying to fit the rather cumbersome fabric window cover provided, instead I have made a screen from a sheet of plywood which clamps on to the window frame, and to fit the hose to it I used the supplied plastic frame that is meant to fit a sliding window. It fits firmly and securely and provides an air-tight means of venting the hot air, and will come apart easily for storage when not required. I am no DIY expert but even I managed it.
The wifi connection works but is a bit of a gimmick really (I can control it via Alexa and my Home Assistant home automation system but not terribly useful in my opinion, I would have been happy with the non-wifi version but it was out of stock). It’s not exactly quiet but I don’t plan to run it overnight anyway so that’s not a problem for me.
The hose is quite stiff and a bit difficult to manipulate without popping it off the end fittings, but once in place it does hold its shape well without forming any sharp kinks which would inhibit the quite considerable airflow through it.
It is fairly easy to move around and even lift, it is heavy but not impossible to carry. You are obviously limited in where you can use it because of the need to vent the hot air. You need a convenient window and the means to seal it wherever you want to use it, so in practice you will probably only be able to use it in one location, unless you make a board like I have for each window (our upstairs windows are a variety of sizes so I can’t use the same board anywhere else).
Overall, very pleased with it.
This is a proper a/c not a air cooler so it’s great in hot days because gives you cold air and not just blowing the hot air around.
It does need a bit of a preparation to put all the kit pipe out the window but after that it makes a huge difference.
If it’s not to hot you can use it as a fan as well and also as a dehumidifier. But make sure when it’s used as a dehumidifier to attach the flexible pipe which is provided in the back of the unit and put your own recipient to collect the water, this is a minus for me I’ll say because it doesn’t have on its own.
It’s easy to move around because it has wheels and handles on sides.
It a bit limited in front grille where the air it’s coming out you only can move up and down by hand and not option to move the grille left or right.
Overall it’s a good ac
It seems fine, I just used the hose on its own for the window, as my windows open out the panel they give is more useful for sliding windows. I have used once so far and it performed well and reduced the temperature in the room relatively quickly. I think the noise level is fairly okay.
Easy to set up but very noisy. Really does cool the room down though so does what we paid for, but not sure how we are supposed to get a good night’s sleep with the noise
I’ve always been a little sceptical of these devices as they tend to be expensive to run, have unsightly waste pipes, generate a lot of heat, and in the UK you don’t need it that often.
However, with global warming and the opportunity to review this product I have changed my mind a bit.
First off, it’s quite compact – about 80cm height and on wheels… so it’s fine to move between study and bedroom but you don’t want to take it up/down stairs too often. The version I am reviewing is 7000 BTU which is equivalent to 800W max. At the time of writing UK electricity prices are about 25p per kWh so that means at max power it’s costing about 20p an hour to run. My suspicion is unless you have one of those ridiculously hot days it won’t get too near to that cost.
It has 3 modes – fan, dehumidifier and cooler (i.e. aircon) – I’m only using it for the cooler function and reviewing just that. To use in cooler mode you have to have the extraction pipe connected outdoors – that’s because it takes in air from the front, cools it, and then chucks out the hot waste air out the back. If you let that air go back into the room you are in it defeats the purpose.
The pipe itself is 2-3 metres long and a sort of stiff version of a tumble dryer extraction pipe. You can just put it out the window but for better efficiency you really need to seal the window. For sliding windows it’s easy… there’s a panel with a hole you fit in. For casement windows (which I have) there’s a zipped sheet with velcro. A casement window is a window where you open the window inwards or outwards against a hinge (like a door). There’s a generous length of velcro which you attach to the window frame and window, then put the sheet on it, push the pipe through the zipped hole and close the zip as much as you can. I thought it would be a pain to set up but it’s easy… and I can remove the sheet easily enough for the 362 days of the year when I don’t need it
In terms of function, it’s a bit noisy, but it works… it makes my study bearable for work, and for that alone it’s worth it.
Definitely recommended.
I have a similar sized portable air con unit for another room, so it was good to be able to compare while also having the option to run another unit without having to move my current one around.
Talking of moving around, the unit is fairly easy to get around, it’s heavy but not so much that you question portability. It is portable. I’d not like to lug it up and down stairs often but it’s easy enough to get about. In fact it also has some small castors underneath meaning it’s really easy to wheel about and get into position.
I really liked that it came with a window fixing kit although I have top opening small windows too and it would be nice if the nose was longer so I could drop it out of those windows. The window kit does allow me to use the side opening part of my window however which is why I’m grateful it’s included.
I’ve not had good enough weather to really test the performance but my living room was kept nice and cool when it was a bit hotter. It did so without much noise either. Beyond the obvious “air is moving” noise you can hear the tiny rattle of the compressor just behind it but unlike some units I’ve used it doesn’t sound like a truck is in your room. This is comfortable as background but maybe a little much for through the night. I tried the sleep mode just for sound tests and I really couldn’t notice the difference other than it locks the fan speed to the low setting and dims the display.
The touch controls are really nice and responsive and the beep is actually pleasant and not in your face. The display is clear and easy to understand too.
I actually got this more for the dehumidifier function than for the air conditioner, and for our home that was a bit of a mistake because it is absolutely designed first and foremost as an air conditioner. That means it really needs to go in a window and installation is way more complicated than anticipated. My partner was able to rig it up in a way which we hoped would work, but when we left it on the first night we found that all the moisture it had removed from the air had ended up on the kitchen floor! Although that was doubtless our mistake, the point is that this is not going to be suitable for every home so check your space. We haven’t had the weather to test the air conditioning function, but the dehumidifier is definitely effective! It’s quite noisy to run and although relatively compact, very heavy indeed. It seems like a quality unit if you have the space to set it up properly, but not really ideal for our needs unfortunately.
This excellent air conditioner features a dehumidifier and is quite simple to use. Its portability allows you to move it to any room in the house. It comes with a remote control and all necessary accessories, including a window bracket kit and a window seal kit. The fan mode is ideal for air circulation in the summer, and when the air conditioner is turned on, it can easily cool any large room. It has a smart, compact design, although it is noticeably heavy. However, moving it around the house is easy thanks to the wheels. The overall build quality is great, though I found the dehumidifier a bit tricky to use and empty. Overall, it offers good value for money. Thank you for reading my review; I hope you found it helpful.
I delayed this review in the expectation of some hot early summer weather. The weather having failed to oblige and with a review deadline, I’ve had to compromise and test the unit in less than demanding conditions.
This is a portable air conditioning unit and it moves easily on the castors. If you need it upstairs, the 22 kilogram weight and bulky shape make it a two person job. Detailed instructions are provided for set up and operation. Some of the manufacturer’s web images show the unit placed centrally in a room and well away from a window. The instructions require the unit to be vented through a window. I assume these images are of the unit only being used as a fan. The same instructions state not to place the unit in direct sunlight; seemingly in contradiction to window venting. The instructions also state not to install in a bookcase or cabinet.!
For optimal efficiency the unit’s venting tube has to be enclosed within the window frame gap using the supplied kit. To fix the kit you have to fix velcro to the window frame. This somewhat negates the idea of portability. Having read numerous negative comments about fixing venting kits in general and not wishing to have velcro, I compromised by using the vent without the fixing kit. After all people have done this with unplumbed tumble drivers.
Once switched on, the unit had no problem lowering the temperature throughout an large open plan area. I can’t comment on efficiency because the mild rather than hot weather didn’t offer much of a challenge. We’ve had no previous experience with air conditioning so I can’t compare noise levels. Suffice to say we found it acceptable. Switching to the sleep mode was noticeably quieter.
The unit looks well designed for cleaning and basic maintenance. The remote control is simple to operate and covers a good distance. It requires two AAA batteries which are not provided. Given the price of the unit, this seemed a bit cheapskate.
This is a very well built compact little air conditioner unit.
I have a previous 9000BTU unit which is more than double the volume of this one (I included some photos for size comparison). I think some of that is that this one might be slightly overestimating its capabilities, as the older one does cool better than this one in the same conditions. However the old one is quite a bit more difficult to store and in the UK storage is where this will spend most of its time. I really like the more compact size.
I tested this on a moderate day and when set to 16C (its lowest option) it managed to get the room down from 23C at 11:51 to 21C by 13:26, which I’d say is OK performance wise.. though I would expect my older unit to have cooled a bit more in that time and I would not count on this to actually lower temperatures in summer, its better suited to cooling you by blowing cold air at you than actually cooling a room.
There are a couple of things to watch for.. The exhaust provided with this unit is far too short for many UK windows.. it isn’t long enough to get from the floor standing unit, to a top window, you would be fine if you have a side opening window where you can get the pipe toward the bottom.
And the water capture and emptying system is a bit tricky, as they don’t supply a way to empty it (my older one came with a sort of scoop bucket to use), and its so low to the ground the only real way to do it is using an oven tray, which is a major hassle and you are likely to spill water on the floor every time you empty this one. It also doesnt seem to evaporate and exhaust much if any water, so it does fill its collection reservoir fairly quickly.
Its got a fair rattle when then compressor is running, and the fans are quite small squirrel cage style centrifuge models, so they need to spin quite fast to push the air around, meaning they are not quiet.
This is a 4 in 1 portable air conditioner that combines four widely used functions into one compact device. Its cool mode can effectively cool a room up to 20sqm in size in the summer, slowing you to regulate the temperature between 16-32. Its sleep mode will maintain a quiet 45dB noise level and dim light to allow you to get a comfortable rest, as well as having an intelligent energy saving mechanism. Its fan mode will improve a room’s air circulation. Its dehumidifier mode is able to remove extra humidity in high humidity environments, which can massively improve comfort. This air con comes with a digital screen and 1-24 hour adjustable timer allowing you to preset an ON/OFF schedule for regular use. In addition, it comes with a remote control for greater convenience.
The most clever part of this device lies in its easy installation. In cooling mode, its exhaust pipe needs to vent outside the room. The installation of the exhaust vent pipe is the most tricky part for a portable air conditioner. This Dr. Prepare air con came with some innovative ideas and provided an assortment of accessories for easy installation of the exhaust vent to most types of windows without damaging or permanently changing the window. As a result, it allows this device to be used from one room to another room with minimum setup/installation required.
This is a very compact compressor driven air conditioning unit. Unfortunately mine did not have the WiFi. The unit is small enough to fit under a table which is great for space saving. The unit is a single integrated unit and requires an exhaust hose for the warm air. I fitted mine through a wall making the adapter myself as I could not find a wall plate and anticlockwise threaded adapter to take the 150mm hose. A window kit is provided which is great considering the price of the unit but I much prefer to vent through the wall.
The unit has a very small fan so it has to run fast to produce the volume of air needed to cool the room and as a result it is a little noisy. On the plus size the compressor itself is small and does not cause much vibration when it is running. The fan only has two speeds high and higher and is too noisy to leave running all night. There is quite a delay between turning the unit on and the compressor starting, there is no indication to show when the compressor is running.
The unit offers around 2kW of cooling with 780W of electricity consumption. The fan is quite small on the top right of the unit and has three manual independent horizontal control louvres and four linked manual vertical control louvres to control the air direction. The is no automatic control of the louvres to ensure all of the room is covered. The unit is capable of cooling a small 4m x4m room in a modern building.
