This is a nice little flash with a modern take on a vintage design so ascetically it looks quite slick especially on something like an EOSM (SEE PICS).
What you get in the box is a small carry pouch, a USB-C charging cable and instruction booklet.
I tried this on an older EOSM and it does work, however note: it is a manual flash and will not allow you to access the flash func menu. Just set your camera to manual and it should trigger the flash.
The unit is light weight fairly compact and charges in just a few hours via any standard USB charger I feel its probably best to use a charger that is not higher then 2 amps. The flash is easy to use and ready to go in around 2 sec from power up. The flash triggered consistently without any issues. You have 5 power settings as well 2 extra settings that allow you to choose how the flash works such as an optical sec flash. The overall output appears fairly smooth as seen in some of my test pics.
QC is top notch with great build quality considering its all plastic construction, but does not feel cheap.
I feel its a nice little flash to have in ones kit, but may be slightly incompatible with some cameras.
This is not going to compete with expensive automatic TTL flashes in terms of features. However, it is simple to use, no nonsense, small, easy to charge, and with a nice circular light. I think it’s a good value, if you know what you are looking for. Another plus is that if you have a more compact size camera, this will help keep the camera more balanced, light, and discrete compared with a more typical external flash that may be 2 to 3 times taller.
PROS
-fun looking little flash
-looks great on retro-styled cameras
-easy to set power with big dial on the back
-better quality of light than pop-up flashes (not a _huge_ amount better, but better)
-can be fired remotely (there are two settings for reacting to other flashes)
-single pin, means it’ll work on just about any hotshoe with a centre pin
-some attempt was made to guide the user to the correct power setting
-internal battery, charged with USB-C
-lightweight and small
CONS
-fully manual: users are going to have to either use a light meter (pretty rare these days), or choose a setting and take a shot, then adjust up or down as necessary
-quite low power (it’s ok for closeup individuals or small groups)
-no tilt, it faces fully forward at all times
NOTES
-with its limited power and functionality this seems to me to be a beginner flash, but it being fully manual means it’s not all that beginner friendly. I’m a little confused as to where it’s supposed to sit in the market
MY STAR RATINGS:
1* substandard, mostly cons
2** barely acceptable, cons outweigh the pros
3*** meets the basic requirements, cons balance the pros
4**** good product, pros outweigh the cons
5***** exceptional, all (or almost all) pros
The design is very attractive at first glance, closer look it show many well thought features, e.g. build in rechargeable batteries (not replaceable), hot shoe quick lock, remote off camera flash trigger by flash, large flash reflections that create the old one time flash looks. Functionally, it works with my fujifilm x100vi, H2s, Nikon Z9.
