I purchased this for travel as I usually have my AD200. I’ve reached a point that carrying so much equipment for traveling isn’t worth it. I saw this and decided to give it a try. What a surprise to see how easy and substantial amount of light this tiny flash gives. I used it for red carpet and events and it worked perfectly. I received a lot of inquiries on it but I see more folks using this as time goes on. Works well with my sony and Pentax.
The Good Lux Elf Retro Camera Flash is a very basic flash. It’s not going to win you any awards for your lit photography. But then again, it’s not designed to.
This is a handy little pocket flash that easily mounts to your hot shoe of almost any mirrorless camera. It looks modern and retro at the same time and its an attractive design. It does draw attention to you, if you don’t mind that while photographing as the white flash does stand out.
Settings are very basic with a nifty little rotating dial at the back to give you presets for various different scenarios (group shot, single person portrait etc).
Where this flash comes into its own is its portability and use as an emergency flash if you’re caught without your main flashes. This easily slips into a small bag or case and you can easily pull it out and slot it on ready for immediate use should you badly need some fill light. Also a great little flash for fun holiday snaps.
A hand way to play with lighting your photos without breaking the bank or requiring you to pull out anything more cumbersome and technical.
This neat little rechargeable flash comes with a USB-C charging cable, microfibre cleaning cloth, and drawstring storage pouch. The storage pouch is not padded, but is fine inside a padded camera bag.
The flash connects neatly to a hot shoe – fitting perfectly onto my Panasonic DC-S5M2XCE (at the same time as a Smallrig Black Mamba cage, as long as the top grip handle is removed). This is a manual flash, with a decent set of built in controls – power button, S1/S2 selector and easy to turn, largeish-size 5 position dial for power control. The compact size means that this is very portable, although the area it reaches is also affected by its diminutive size. The battery life from a full charge is good. I’ve used it for a couple of sustained events, then not used it and it held some charge for almost a month. Overall, this is a decent little thing at a reasonable price point that has wide model/brand compatibility.
My only hesitation about this flash was aesthetic. I really wasn’t sure about the looks of a white attachment for my black camera. In fact, the compact size means that there’s not an excessive amount of white plastic visible and the overall effect is that of a neat, very portable little retro-style accessory.
This is a cute little flash, it’s really well made, stylish and tactile, it feels very good in the hand. The flash is rechargeable, and a USB-C charging cable is supplied, together with a set of instructions and a drawstring storage bag. Controls are basic, this isn’t an automatic flash, there is a disk on the back of the flash that controls the flash level, a button to select normal flash, a button to select slave, normal or TTL, and a mechanical push button that locks and releases the flash from the camera. The flash just has a single contact which makes it pretty well compatible with all cameras that have a hot shoe. It’s not hugely powerful but after some experimentation I found it is ideal as a simple and quick to use fill-in flash. The flash can also be used as a secondary slave flash by pressing the S1/S2 push button to turn red, secondary flash, or pressing again for blue, TTL secondary flash where it will ignore the first flash. I tried it as a secondary flash and it worked well, flashing every time my main flash operated, even when the sensor, which is on top of the flash, was turned away from the camera flash. I really like this retro flash, it’s simple and easy to use, well made and being rechargeable it doesn’t eat batteries like my main flash does, recommended.
Perfect small backup flash unit. Really well made as I would expect from GODOX, great price point – works excellent and delivered on time – Well happy with my purchase
Bonjour
Je dois d’abord dire que ce petit flash n’est pas pour les professionnels… C est mon avis personnel bien sr.
A part cel j’apprcie beaucoup…. Petit.. lger… Facile utiliser…

So…there are definitely some drawbacks. This is not a powerful or far reaching flash…but then it really isn’t meant to be. This is meant for more intimate photography with less distance to your subject…but as with all flash, watch for those hotspots close in, cuz they are strong. Love that it is rechargeable, and uses usb-c. The cover is nice, but doesn’t really provide much protection, have a spare empty generic case on hand. Now…this will work as an optical slave…but it is REALLY touchy about it, and really very inconsistent. Was testing with two cameras, an m50ii and an m6ii. Not sure why, but it played nicer with the m6ii. With the flash off camera at about 6 feet away, with finger holding the adjustable flash on the m6ii angled towards the flash…with would go off about 2/3 of the time. I could not get it to go off at all unless my on camera flash was pointed directly at it, and within about that 6 foot range. dropping it to 5 feet nearly did away with the misfires. I tried, but I didn’t wear the battery down on first night of testing…dinner was ready before the flash was empty. And then it recharged really fast.
So…overall. If you are a pro, or the type of enthusiast who only wants the best pro gear everyone is talking about right now…this flash isn’t for you. If you are into gear that gives character, like art lens, etc…then you will really enjoy this flash once you get into the rhythm of working with it. My greyhound didn’t seem bothered by it in the least, and was kind enough to sit for an hour and smile while I played. Some really beautiful shots are possible when you take this flash off camera. One camera definitely has that particular flair, and I got this flash because there is a place for that look and it can be quite fun, plus it makes for a great daylight fill. I love it, I am surprised by how much…and honestly my only regret is that it isn’t silver. It should have been silver. Why is it white???
