Great quality product that delivers what it promises. These are really good to help protect usb ports from wear and I would recommend using them. I haven’t had any connection issues so far and the magnet has held the cable in securely. Overall I’d be happy to recommend this product.
I got the ‘1 pack male to female straight’ option of this adapter, ‘USB C magnetic Adapter, Straight USB4.0 PD 140W 40Gb/s’ and it does the job well. It’s not the top USB spec since it doesn’t support 240 watt charging, but most devices don’t require that level of charging anyway and any phone or tablet will be more than catered for with 140 watt. It does hit the top data spec of 40Gb/s though so if you have an obscenely fast source and target drive it’ll support that (you might not now, but you might have in five years from now when I’d expect this to still be working).
If you haven’t used a magnetic cable or adapter before, they come in two parts. There’s a small USB C insert that goes in the device you want to charge (or transfer data to and from) and the other half goes on your cable. When you bring the adapter near the insert they magnetically couple and that happens surprisingly easily, quickly and firmly. The inserts don’t come out unless you pry them out with a fingernail – you won’t need a screwdriver.
Alignment is really easy, like a modern pair of earbuds, the magnets do the majority of the work and honestly that makes it easy.
I use them with my headphones, earbuds and phone. My phone sits in a stand, and I just offer the cable up and it couples. That means I don’t have to use wireless charging, or pick the phone up to charge it. It uncouples easily. It’s a really good convenience upgrade that stops you fiddling with stuff and for that reason, I think it’s a great gift for a relative with dexterity problems such as arthritis who doesn’t want to be fumbling with cables. When my parents go full USB C and ditch Lightning, I’ll definitely be trying to shift them over to this style of connector.
At this price, it’s pretty good value and allows you to use an existing cable which is an important factor. Your other option is a cable with this facility built in, but I haven’t had any problems using this adapter.
There’s no guarantee but my adapters from different companies all seem to play well with each other so there must be a fairly common standard design and that’s helpful (although I’d buy all from the same source if you want lots of them).
I also got the right angled version of this adapter, but I can’t leave a separate review for that as they’re on the same product page.
For charging this is a great device, protects the cable and port from knocks and easily disconnects.
For data transfer I do not recommend this as it is too easy to become disconnected and if this happens halfway through a transfer or update to an external drive, it could be costly in terms of corruption of the drive.
Easy to keep around as it sticks to everything metal near it.
I’ve been getting quite a few of this type of adapter recently as I find them very useful, saving me the need to continually plug in and pull-out leads. Instead, the small magnetic tip stays in your USB-C style socket, whilst you connect the larger section to your USB-C lead. This example is a particularly good one as it boasts the latest specifications USB-4.0 PD 140W 40Gb/s (obviously limited to your device). The magnetic contact is strong allowing the main body of the adapter to automatically self-align. As well as the advantages in linking I have found that on a few occasions when I have moved my laptop the pull on the lead has caused the lead to disengage rather than pulling and putting pressure on the socket/lead. I now use similar magnetic adapter for my phone, tablet and adapter.
Say goodbye to bent cables with this little device!
Need to plug something into your laptop/tablet and having to bend the cable into an awkward position? Not any more with this little device.
Not only that but its great for those MacBook users who don’t have MagSafe charging, this little device brings that back for you.
It supports quick charge up to 140w which is impressive for such a little adaptor.
Will definitely be buying some more of these.
This is a decent magnetic adaptor and it certainly does the trick of creating a connection between two devices that can detach safely instead of wrenching the connector if pulled the wrong way.
I’ve found these really useful when playing my steam deck while running on power. It creates a bit of a safety net so if I yank the cable by accident it’ll just disconnect the magnet.
This brings me to my only minor gripe about this. The other one of these I have, and ones I’ve seen online, have just a simple connection of a series of small flat plates which means the surface between the connecting parts is completely flat. This one has a small board jutting up from the “base” unit with the connections on that fit into a slot on the head side. I don’t like this design because it introduces something that can break instead of there just being a clean, flat surface. It also means that, despite being identical in its dimensions as my other one, I can’t use them interchangeably.
That minor (and probably specific to me) gripe, this is a good magnetic connector. I just think there are better examples out there.
A good idea with an industrial strength magnetic adaptor.
I charge my iPad Pro each night at the side of my bed resting between the floor and the bed base. I usually forget to do this the easy way before I settle down and bumble around in the semi dark trying to get the USB C charging cable into the socket.
This little unit finds it for me and effortlessly connects when I get it towards the general direction.
Now instead of having a charging cable sticking out at right angles from the top of the iPad, the adaptor allows the cable to run smoothly along the body of the equipment and is much less likely to get me if I happen to get up during the night. (Trust me you would not believe what I am capable of tripping over with my eyes half closed.)
Why have the iPad on the floor to charge? because there is no room on the bedside cabinet where the lamp iPhone, iWatch and first aid kit are kept.
So practical solutions to a set of annoying problems at a reasonable cost.
This type of magnetic adaptor became an absolute necessity when Apple discontinued MagSafe on their MacBooks in favour of USB-C power. Apple have since made a rare admission that this was an error and brought back MagSafe to the current MacBook line-up, however there are plenty of MacBooks – and other brands – out there with USB-C power as the only option.
I cannot count the number of times a magnetic connector has saved my computer from crashing off a table, it must be a weekly occurrence. If you have a USB-C powered laptop then you need one of these. It is well made and the magnet disengages at a sensible force keeping the cable well attached but releasing if snagged. It is USB4 compliant with super fast data transfer rates up to 40Gbps should you wish to use this for data or to connect a monitor. It also supports PD 140W which is enough for fast charging modern laptops. The magnetic piece that lives permanently in the USB-C port does of course stick out a little, but is hardly noticeable on something the size of a laptop and a minor downside given the benefits.
At the current price of 9 this is good value.
This adapter is really handy if you always forget to disconnect before getting up and walking away!
It’s a little tricky to remove, even with the included tweezers but after a little frustration, it was removed – though likely it’ll stay connected until the device is replaced.
Charging works fine with no noticable issues.
can’t argue with the convenience of the snap on and off for charging my phone, best of all it supports my 80W super VOOC charger so. the only change i would make is that it would include 2 or 3 cable adapters so you can have multiple cables for the same device.
As my Dell XPS has aged, the USB ports have started to get some lateral movement in them, to help reduce this, I got this magnetic connector which would always be plugged in.
The connector itself is made of a nice quality anodised metal, the metal is this satin grey and does match the colour of the XPS well. Matches slightly better to a brand new MacBook Pro.
The connector on it is nice and tight. Giving a great fit to the XPS. The connector sits in the XPS’s loose port nicely and has had no issues with connection. The connector that goes into the port is also quite slimline, so it doesn’t add much bulk to the side of the laptop. The magnetic connection is also super strong, it holds the connector firmly in place and it has not popped off easily.
The charging has been perfect. I have had no issues with the laptop charging at a slower speed and it’s been getting full speed charging event under 100% load. Which is excellent as the laptop will reduce it’s performance as it loses power.
Overall, very happy with this. They are very well priced and I will be getting others to make more things in the house magnetic! 5/5!
This is one of those gadgets which until you have one you didn’t realise just how useful they are. The adapter fits snugly into your USB C unit of choice and then allows you to connect your regular USB C cable for the intended purpose whether that be charging or data transfer.
I have a Quest 3 which needs a lot of charging and the feel of the inbuilt USB C socket feels like it might wear with such constant use. Therefore connecting the magnetic end of the adapter to the Quest will save a lot of wear and tear. It also makes for an easier way of connecting your cable. When charging there’s a soft blue light on one side of the cable end of the adapter.
The connection is pretty secure and the bonus is that the unit will also allow for high speed data transfer along with video support. I can’t speak to the video output as I don’t have a device for that, but I did try doing a data transfer and the speed was more than adequate for purpose.
The adapter feels well made and pretty solid and looks attractive.
Recommended.
This adapter arrived in a little packet with the USB-C part plug that goes into your device, a bigger elbow with a USB-C socket for your own USB-C cable and a little pair of pincers for removing the plug. The instructon images claim that the pincers go inside the plug to remove it but this is not possible as the hole is too small for the tool so presumably you grab the outside of it and pull. Personally I think this is a recipe for scratching the side of your laptop as the tool is made of metal. The plug can be removed with fingers so I’d just do that instead.
In use, after putting the plug into my MacBook and attaching a USB-C cable to the elbow, they mate together magnetically with a satisfying clunk and it adds that magsafe easily detachable in an emergency functionality that is missing from my MacBook. Because the elbow puts the power cable at 90 degrees it means I can put the cable facing backwards and out of the way. The negative for me is that it wasn’t really apparent that this adapter had a bright white LED that I find really quite distracting especially in low light and it is on both sides so you can’t even turn it over so you don’t see it. If it was dim and a different colour (not blue!) it would probably be much better.
Overall this is a good magsafe type adapter for the price and it works really well other than the bright LED which may not bother you but I will be sticking a piece of tape over mine.
I really like the magnetic USB C end connection converters. Plug the unit into USB C port of choice and plug the external cable or peripherals into the socket. When want to remove because use it often but not always. It click detaches and move it near the base and click, it snaps it back into place. Direction irrelevant up or down. The 90 degree angle keeps the cable nice, neat, tidy, adjacent to the side of the phone, tablet, laptop, pc, etc. Any USB C socket. If you use on phone and phone has a chunky case, difficulty to remove the plug peg, not an issue. It comes with mini tweezers just for grasping and lifting, pulling out. It has High data transfer rate to pass through 8k AV without interference. It can pass 140w of power. I like having one on my phone, another on laptop etc. Phone when go to bed, when plugging into charging cable, no more feel for hole, move it near and Snap it is magnetic connected and charging.
Magnetic USB C widget plug heads are not same across all manufacturers. There could be an industry standard so all have interoperability of peg plug heads.
I use this dongle on my Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G. It makes such a difference having the cables come out and to side instead of old boring pig tails.
For several years, I have used various magnetic charging cables to charge my smartphone, as not having to constantly plug and unplug the connector should help to reduce wear on the charging port. However, the last time I connected the cable to my phone, I noticed a burning smell and the magnetic connector was really hot, so it ended up in the bin — I have a feeling that this may have been something to do with the cable not having a high enough power rating to cope with my phones charger, so I thought I’d give one of these adapters a try.
The adapter is nice and compact and feels pretty sturdy with its aluminium and plastic body.
On one end you have a USB-C female socket and at 90 degrees to it, you have a USB-C male connector which attaches to the main body using a strong magnet. The small magnetic part can be left in the charging port of your device and then quickly snaps into place when you need to charge.
The manufacturer states that the adapter is rated to support up to 140W of power (5V/3A-20V/7A) and also supports data transfer at up to 40Gbps.

***** Conclusion *****
So far, I’m really pleased with this handy little adapter from IVITOR.
I really like the convenience of being able to quickly snap the charging cable onto my phone, without the need to fiddle around trying to find the USB socket. I usually buy the complete cable, but this sturdy little connector means I can use the numerous USB-C cables I already have.
The only thing I would have really liked, would have been the inclusion of 1 or 2 more or the little magnetic connectors, so that I could keep one in my phone, another in my tablet and it would also be really useful for my son’s Quest 3 headset.
I think the 8.99 asking price is fairly reasonable and would definitely be cheaper than having to replace charging ports through wear and tear.
This adapter is excellent both in build quality and functionality. It’s made with an aluminium alloy casing and also a tough plastic elbow that makes it into a right angled shape. This has a gold plated connector to give you the best connection possible.
For the magnetic connector, they are using Neodymium N52 grade magnets, which are one of the strongest raw material magnets you can get. This doesn’t mean that the connector won’t come away from the casing, because that is what they are designed to do in order to prevent damage to the cable and the connector. What it means is that it will give you a really strong hold when you are passing data or power over it so that you can achieve the throughput and power figures they have quoted in the advert.
One of my biggest problems with this type of magnetic connector is that if you want to reuse the connector on a different device you would have to get the head of the connector out of the port, and with the body having come away from the connector this was a tricky and time consuming task. At last someone has taken this into consideration, and they have provided a small extractor tool that helps you grip the connector and remove it easily.
