I guess I was expecting a long build time for this, in the end it took two of us three days of stopping and starting to get the Notre Dame model finished but it was worth it,
The model is full of intricate tricky little bits so it’s not for anyone under teen age for sure, it’s a slow and methodical process that can induce an almost zen-like state at times, you also need somewhere that you can build it without it getting knocked or moved so you can take breaks.
The model is really well detailed and I see you can even buy lighting kits for it now, though these are expensive, it’s something that, once built, should be displayed rather than taken apart. Once I would have said that defeats the object of LEGO but these larger sets are so nice to look at once built I can see a good reason for it.
you can’t go wrong with Lego. excellent constructions, fantastic quality as usual. perfect instructios and lovely to display in my office. we built it over a good few nights, with my husband, as we have been busy with other stuff but we really enjoyed i
I have been really privileged to construct this iconic landmark out of lego and I have been really impressed with the quality from start to finish.
My previous lego projects have been relatively small and I’ve never tackled a big boy like this before. Firstly I love how the parts are all bagged up and in numerical order which makes it much easier to find everything you need.
The instructions are easy to follow and you go on a journey whilst building this – learning facts and building in the same way as it was built hundreds of years ago was a really immersive experience for me and added an extra layer of enjoyment to this build.
I’m building this with my son where it will take pride of place in his bedroom – it’s not finished yet and it’s a work in progress but I look forward to completing a little bit every night.
Although I haven’t been able to test this out yet it appears that you can remove the roof to reveal the internal architecture which is a cool feature.
Overall this is quality set and well worth the money. After I’ve finished this I’m looking at getting the new Artemis rocket set which looks amazing. I may be addicted now!
Lego has come an awfully long way since I played with it as a kid.
Back then, all I ever really “built” were crude, rectangular buildings – possibly with the inclusion of some windows, though this wasn’t always guaranteed.
The kits these days are so much more sophisticated.
This one is mightily impressive. It may look a little ominous at the outset, but the instructions are clear, so with a little attention to detail you will have created an impressive model, worthy of being put on display when you have finished it.
Lego is incredible! There is nothing like it, and this set is without a doubt the best one I have ever had the pleasure of owning. The build is well thought out with great instructions. I love the new pieces that are included, the additional piece design always fascinates me.
The common parts ration in this set is really high so if you are to ever dismantle and re-purpose the set, you will have lots of parts to use for non notre projects.
However coming back to this set, the design is remarkable, I spent some time looking at the ratio and the details of the build and it is spot on…. really spot on.
Build time was two weeks but that was because I have lots going on at the moment. I love this set, really love it. The colours as always are incredible and the packaging is bright and well thought out.
This set is very well presented and organised. Each stage of the construction is packed in clearly labelled bags and the book of instructions leads you step by step along the way. The pieces are well made, as you would expect with LEGO. There are a number of hinged pieces which give flexibility where needed to enable curves to fit together smoothly. I am delighted with the precision of the model, the intricacy of the construction and the clarity of the instructions. I can highly recommend this to any fan of Lego building construction. It takes time and attention to detail but the result is amazing. It is good value for the quality you get and the hours of enjoyment in achieving such an impressive, magnificent large-scale building.
Weighing in at 2.25kg and 34 bags of lego this scaled model of the Notre-Dame Cathedral was always going to be repetitive due to the design of the original, and I thought it was going to bug the hell out of me building it. But I am happy to report that although there are is quite a lot of “ok now do that 14 more times” for the most part I did not find it a frustrating build, repetitive yes, but more mediative.
There was one part building the spires which are particularly fiddly where I turned the page and the instructions say “Ha! now do the last 45 minutes of your life again… for fun” where I lost my rag and had to take a break for a bit, but that was the only time this set annoyed me.
For the scale though the detail is off the charts in terms of lego with a lot of the build being built on the half block due to the curvature of the building and although at points it seems like it is not going to be stable it interlocks nicely a couple of steps down the track.
Compared to some of the bigger Technics sets I have done it didn’t make my brain hurt as much and was more of a meditative build than an out and out challenge of grey matter. The final model is really impressive and my favourite bit has to be the mini-mini-figure gargoyles along with all the intricate columns inside that only you really know are there, even though you can take the roof off and peer inside.
No stickers, which is always a win, I really enjoyed it but if you don’t like small bits I wouldn’t bother as that is basically all this set is. But if you enjoy a complex methodical build and an impressive final model hit the yellow buy button now!
Wow what a kit, feel well privileged to review this kit with my son.
(Son did all the work with his partner) My son saw this kit come out on the 1st June and was out of stock within a few hours, he unfortunately missed it as this was one of the kits his partner wanted badly for her to build with him.
My son has thousands of pounds worth of lego and does collect them predominantly starwars sets and the partner is into the monuments as a way to relax for personal reasons.
The set is set up in a way that it shows you how to construct like any lego set does but also gives you a lot of historic information about the Notre-dame throughout its expansion over time, the level of detail for a lego set is a whole lot more than i myself first perceived, the details in the windows and the spires bring this kit to life and would be an absolute pleasure to see on a display unit “Son needs another unit now :-)”.
At just shy of 200 RRP for near 4,500 piece set of blocks this is comparable with other price to pieces sets, the shear pleasure of seeing the joy of someone finishing it and viewing it in all its glory is priceless, another brilliant product from the trusted lego brand that never fails to surprise. an easy 10 star product if it was possible and totaly worth the RRP if you can get your hands on one .
We all know what lego is and what the company is about and what they do so I’ll skip all of that.
This latest offering in the lego architecture range emulates a great piece of architectural history that was almost lost completely to tragedy and remains a shadow of it’s former glory as its renovation continues. so this is a poignant and timely choice for a new set.
with over 4000 pieces this is not a set for the faint of heart but thankfully in true lego form the contents of its cavernous box are organised neatly into individually bagged and numbered subsets which the clear and precise instructions will take you through one at a time.
i will live in constant fear of dropping it and having to rebuild from a single combined pool of parts though so keep it safe!
it’s an expensive set but if you’re looking at it then we both know what you’re about already.
it’s a fun build. it looks incredible. go on treat yourself.
Assembling this piece has been an incredibly rewarding experience because it is a model kit for adults with a great tribute to the iconic cathedral of notre dame de paris. From the moment I had to start building it I was really captivated but the details of this set and each piece fits perfectly together. The instructions are very helpful and detailed and it makes the whole building process smooth and even though I have tried to put everything together in one day even though I was able to do it, I prefer to leave more construction for the following days to enjoy more. I found the whole process to be very relaxing and it disconnects me from the daily activity and it is very fascinating to see how each section comes together to form a miniature version of the cathedral. Once everything was assembled, the cathedral is more than just a building project for me it is a work of art especially because I have assembled it. The whole cathedral is solid enough if I prefer to move it somewhere else and it looks just stunning. My experience with this product is more than five stars!!
Got this for my adult son as he loves challenging building projects.
This Lego set of Notre-Dame comes in an absolutely humungous box! Seeing as it contains 4383 pieces, this isn’t really surprising. Opening the box, you’re presented with a ton of numbered bags with the thousands of pieces in. You follow the bags in numerical order to build this set, which makes things much easier.
The instruction book is thick and contains relatively easy to follow instructions which are illustrated to help you along. If you’ve done Lego before, you know what to expect. It also has fascinating information about the Notre-Dame building itself in the book, which is a nice touch.
Following the instructions and the numerical bags, my son has made a really good start on this, as you can see in the pics. It’s taken his around 4 hours to get to this point over a couple of nights and there’s quite a way to go! Obviously, there’s going to be hours and hours of building time here which is good considering the premium nature of this product.
What is really cool is that you’re guided through the building process through the ages. You don’t just put the bricks in place until you’ve finished. So first of all you build what it looked like between 1163-1182. Then you build upon that through the years 1182-1200. Then 1200-1225 and so on and so forth until you’ve completed the entire building. It’s such a fantastic way of building and mirrors how it was built in real life!
As you would expect with official Lego, the quality of the pieces, box, instruction book etc are all top notch. The only thing my son is unhappy about is the base plate that you build it upon. He says it’s just too flimsy and, due to the length, you can be pushing pieces of Lego onto it and it can pop other pieces off. I know this frustrates him because I keep hearing him moaning about it. Even on a hard top table he was struggling with this a bit.
Overall, I’m really happy with this Lego set. It’s an ultra premium product and the quality is sky high. The actual building is fun and engaging (not including the base plate flimsiness) and it’s fascinating to see it being built as the original building would have been built. An incredible Lego set.
If you appreciate historic buildings and love Lego then this is a match made in heaven. The box is enormous and weighs almost 3 kg! There is dozens of numbered bags which makes it easy to build by following the easy to read instruction manual.
It’s been a very long time since I last built a decent sized Lego set and forgot how much time it takes to build each step but it’s the most relaxing way to spend an evening and forget everyday worries. It’s so enjoyable to build I can’t see this being my last Lego set to build! The attention to detail is quite astonishing.
Simply stunning. Highly recommended.
As a total Lego nut I was supper pleased to get this, I have never done a Lego Architecture build before so this was a pleasure, I normally build Star Wars Lego so this was a new experience for me and I loved it.
The attention to detail is amazing, the build is great fun, and the instructions are for the most part easy to follow, a few pages I got a little confused about but once I had figured it out it was plain sailing.
A total of 34 bags and 259 pages of instructions, The box is massive which isn’t indicative of the size of the build, Notre-Dame has been miniaturised its perfect and when built fits nicely on a shelf (top one due to the spire)
I always tend to just build these in the space a few days, as just love losing myself in the build.
Lego have done it again, amazing quality, easy to follow instructions, great fun for everyone, ages 9 – 99 🙂
Leaves me needing more.. which I always feel is a great representation of a good product, would happily build this multiple times.
4000+ pieces, NOT enough.. need more.,..
Great Value, Would recommend this
LEGO Architecture Notre Dame de Paris Set
Set has 4383 pieces.
This is the very first religious build LEGO has made for general sale and the most famous Cathedral in the world. We all heard the rumours but never believed they would come true.
The LEGO set 21061 comes with a total of 34 numbered bags for each stage of the build experience.
This set is suitable for 18 years plus but younger experienced builders will also enjoy the challenge.
The box is a base and a lid and lifts off like a jigsaw type of box, must be a new design as I’ve not seen this style before.
The base and the stunning tiled floor is built first before building the rounded architecture facing and then the internal columns, arches and windows.
The build is exciting and not at all repetitive and not just columns and floors, although placing the wands at an angle was tedious for me, you build one half first with mini roof and then the second half to meet it.
This is the first time I have experienced and seen 2 different numbered bags used for building one stage off the build.
The trees and greenery just appear down one side of the building and not the other, this is a perfect replica of how the Cathedral is as the road is on the other side.
There is no mini figures in this set.
The instruction manual is not just an instruction book it gives you factual information about the building throughout.
With 4383 pieces, it’s easy to see why this bears an 18+ guidance. At 16″ long and 13″ high it’s not as large as I might have guessed from the piece count and sheer weight of the huge box, but you’re going to need a sizeable space to display, so measure up before you buy. If I didn’t write my review until after I had finished building then my time to do so would probably have expired, so I can’t comment on the specifics of the building experience. But as always with these epic sets Lego has split the contents and instructions into chunks, and although still a challenging build you are helped every step of the way with well broken-down stages, and only open the labelled packs that you need as you go along. Obviously this is in the architecture range, so you need to be into building and structure as well as the romance, history and beauty of this iconic landmark to fully enjoy the set, given that there is inevitably one heck of a lot of beige bricks! Currently sold out on Lego’s own site and 20quid more expensive there at the time of review, this may be the time to snap this up if you fancy it, even if you plan to set it aside for an Autumn/Winter evening build experience.
