Really good looking keyboard for Mac, just by aware that it is all plastic despite looking metal. Matches the Magic Mouse very well. Feels great to type on and has very good features, like the backlighting. Slightly overpriced over the standard model just for the Mac layout.
As a Mac user, this is a great keyboard. Premium build quality and feeling.
Got the mx key mini at the same time. This keyboard got a little high angle than the mini one. Not sure why the key got a bit more travel distance than the mini one and the key cap feels a bit more premium. Perhaps it is the new version. Really happy with it!
Beware this do not come with the Logi Bolt connector and do not work with PS5!
This is the second mx keys I have had (I killed the first one with a can of red bull) and I won’t ever use a different keyboard. I use it 8 hours a day for work and then again in my spare time and it has never missed a beat. I owned the first one for four years and there wasn’t so much as a slight wearing on the keys. I am confident this keyboard would last 10 years at least without skipping a beat. The ability to quickly flick between my work pc, my iMac and my MacBook with the push of a button is a game changer and works so well
There’s not much else that I can add to what has already been said. This Logitech keyboard is fantastic and a great alternative to the Apple Magic keyboard. As soon as I unboxed it, I fell in love with the following:
1. The space grey colour matches my M1 Pro MacBook Pro very well
2. The typing feedback feels almost identical to the typing experience on the MacBook
3. I believe that the keyboard layout is identical to the layout of the Apple Magic keyboard, made it an easy transition for me
4. Backlit keys
5. Far cheaper that the Apple equivalent!
If you are considering it, go ahead and get it!
– First impressions – wow. When you take the keyboard out of the box, you immediately feel that it’s a premium product. It’s heavy, beautiful, and made no worse than the Magic Keyboard, which I compare to.
– Before buying Logitech, I tried several cheaper ones and realized that I intuitively couldn’t hit the right keys. When typing on this one, I don’t need to get used to it. It feels like you’re typing on the familiar MacBook Pro keyboard. It’s pleasant and convenient.
– The keyboard is quiet, the mechanism is time-tested and reliable.
– Backlighting is available. It’s unobtrusive but bright enough.
– You can connect it to up to 3 devices simultaneously, which is good, although it’s not relevant for me yet. – You can connect via a USB dongle or Bluetooth (which is how I connected it).
– I haven’t had a chance to fully test the battery life, but I have no doubts that I won’t have to charge it frequently.
– It’s a full-size keyboard with a numpad. If you don’t use additional keys, a compact keyboard is also a good option. I critically need the numpad for 3D software.
After over a week of daily use, I have only pleasant impressions. Moreover, if I had to choose between buying the Apple Magic Keyboard again or this one, I would choose Logitech. So am I just joining the hundreds of other reviewers who praise it as the only worthy alternative to Apple.
Bluetooth connected to my Macbook with no issues, and all keys such as mission control and launchpad work as they should.
The best feature for me though is the awesome backlit LED keys. Really bright and reminiscent of the older macbooks that had the glow around each key.
The keyboard also has a built-in sensor, so simply hovering your hand over the keys will turn the backlight on which I think is such an awesome idea! Basically the backlight is activated before you type so you don’t need to press a key to turn the backlight on. Amazing.
Last thing to comment on is the weight of the keyboard. It’s heavier than the apple keyboards so it doesn’t slide around on smooth surfaces and feels really premium.
This is literally one of the best keyboards available for Mac users and in my opinion better than Apple’s offerings for half the price. Highly recommended!
There is nothing to dislike if you are an Apple user. The keyboard is backlit. The light comes on when it is dark and when the keyboard detects your hands.
You can turn off the backlight. I haven’t & I cannot remember when I last charged the keyboard.
You can connect up to three devices (Mac, iPad & iPhone in my case). It is a full size keyboard and it has good weight. It is not a mechanical keyboard (a win for me). The keys are dished making typing easier (for me anyway).
You connect your keyboard to your device via Bluetooth or with a Logitech plug & play USB device.
Unfortunately Logitech have two such standards; the USB Unifying Receiver and the Logi Bolt USB Receiver. There is no interoperability. This keyboard uses the older Unifying Receiver. This suites me as I have other Logitech peripherals that alap use this. If you are buying a Mouse and this keyboard make sure the mouse uses the “USB Unifying Receiver”.
I am very happy with my keyboard.
Paired quickly with MacBook via Bluetooth, but there’s a dongle in case you need that. Haven’t tried pairing with a Windows PC.
The keys have a nice action: short travel, of course, but nicely cushioned.
The (internal, rechargeable) battery life is fine: I charged it a few days ago, and it’s still 100% whereas my Magic Mouse is down to 94%.
It’s so solid and heavy that, should you be subject to attack while using it, it would make a handy weapon.
I wish there were a slot on the keyboard where I could store the unused dongle.
AFTER A MONTH using this keyboard, I’ve come across a deficiency which you also may find problematic, and I have docked one star from my rating because of it.
The backlight – which is a great feature – goes on when your hands approach the keyboard andf off again a few seconds after you stop typing. You’d think this was great, but the contrast between the colour of the letter on the keypad and the colour of the keypad itself is so little that you need the backlight on in order to read the keypad (I amn not a touch typist!). You can’t adjust any setting to make the backlight remain on permanently, unlike (I believe) with the mini version of this keyboard.
I found hovering my left hand over the left part of the keyboard was a partial solution.
Absolutely gorgeous keyboard. Set itself up out of the box. Simple instructions inside the black box lid got me going further. It is wonderful — responsive, quiet and fast.
I was sent a Mac version and really wanted the PC one, but this is not going back. It’s even got the Windows Print Screen function sorted. This is probably the best keyboard I’ve used on a PC, and in the league with the best laptops I’ve used.
The intelligent backlighting for the keys is a real bonus. I wasn’t aware of how much I used it on my laptop. This is next-level with its proximity sensor, albeit that it needs a hand’s worth of very close proximity to kick in.
Some people have complained about the weight of this (it has a metal casing). I find it a real bonus — it damps everything.
Came with a USB C to C charging cable. Am wondering whether the Windows version comes with a C to A?
This is far from cheap, but it’s reflected in what you get. Is it good value for money? The keyboard feels like it will last forever. The onboard batteries? If they Last 5 years without giving up — then yes.
I’ve also reviewed the matching MX Master 2S mouse. It’s also good — but badly let down by a lack of instructions — which are desperately needed if you are setting up a mouseless PC and unaware of the archaic tab and arrow controls (which a decent set of instructions would provide).
I’ve used these keyboards from logitech for years and find them very comfortable to use for long periods of time. Despite this being a mac keyboard it works fine on PC as well and I use it at work on PCs. The backlight comes on when you start using it and can be turned off easily if required. Battery life is good and the case is made of metal so feels very good quality. The logitech software allows you to set it up with multiple computers and has 3 separate device keys which you can press to quickly switch between various computers.
The keyboard does feel nice to use. There is a softness to the keys. The illuminations are nice and match the laptop. But anyone using an additional keyboard I think would need it to map their master keyboard on the laptop. This is where I have a gripe…
This keyboard is called (it’s written on the back) MX KEYS For Mac. On my M2 MBP the fn key activates the emojis, that’s great. On the Logi keyboard it does not, that’s useless. In fact the fn key on the MX doesn’t do anything!
The battery light on the MX is one green light to say there is charge. Then it goes to red to say there’s 10% left. That’s not that useful. How tricky would it be to put in 3 LED’s in 25% increments.
The keyboard illuminations drop out the minute you’re not using them. So you can’t see it when you start to use it again. Would be nice if they just stayed on.
I’m still glad I bought it. It looks good. Just isn’t quite what it says it is.
The build is robust, bordering on the unyielding, thanks to the metal construction. Far from being off-putting, it gives the keyboard a premium weight and feel that’s as reassuring as a safety net. Plus, its silver colour only enhances its sleek, chic appeal.
If typing on this keyboard was a sport, I’d be a world champion. The keys are indented just right, making it less likely that your fingers will stray and hit the wrong key. As someone who’s spent an inordinate amount of time on Apple’s pre-butterfly keyboards, I can confidently say the MX Keys matches that comfort, if not surpasses it.
A standout feature for me is the ability to pair the keyboard with up to three devices and switch between them using the F13-15 keys. I’ve got it connected to my MacBook, Windows PC, and iPhone, and it’s like a well-choreographed dance the way I can move between devices.
The smart illumination feature deserves its own applause. It lights up as your hands approach, adjusts to room conditions and is mindful of battery life. As an often late-night typer, this feature has been a game-changer for me.
Battery life has been stellar; even with my heavy usage, I rarely find myself reaching for the charger. And when I do, the USB-C to USB-C charging system ensures that I can continue typing away while it drinks up the juice.
In conclusion, the Logitech MX Keys for Mac is a true paragon of keyboards. Its features are smart, its build is strong, and its user experience is smooth. In terms of price, while it might seem a bit steep, I assure you that it’s a worthwhile investment. This keyboard is proof that quality does indeed come at a price, and it’s a price I’m willing to pay.
Putting all the cheap nasty ones aside I found this and after using it for a few days it’s great. Key travel and feedback is very good. Not mechanical keyboard good, but definitely better than the Apple Magic Keyboard – the latest one with Touch ID.
My first impressions were how heavy it feels. Most keyboards feel too light and easily move on your desk. This one does not. The backlighting is very good and automatically turns off to save battery life. I won’t be using any of the shortcuts to attach it to multiple computers, but this can be done if you need to. Shorcuts for media, including a mute button, are all there and the layout is correct for a UK Mac.
It connected first time to my Mac Studio and has been rock solid, no delays or lagginess it just works.
Overall a great keyboard and at half the price of the Apple keyboard, unless you need Touch ID, I would go with this instead.
I work on a hackintosh, which boots like a normal PC, then logs into MacOS, and I also use a MacBook Pro to the side.
Most reviews have covered most aspects of this keyboard’s features. But something I’ve not been able to find much info on, which is a bit of a fail on Logitech’s side, is understanding the channel mapping for USB vs BT.
Initially, my keyboard worked wirelessly. Then I set up Bluetooth on both my PC and Laptop to be able to swich (not realising at the time I could keep wireless on my PC and just assign BT to my MBP). Great, right? Except, when I restarted my machine, my keyboard wasn’t working via the USB adapter.
This left me very confused and resulted in a couple of hours of faffing and tweaking in the Logitech Options software.
I un-paired the wireless connection via the software, and re-paired it, and wireless worked again. But now my BT stopped.
Some reviews and answered questions made it seem like this is how it will be – that you can only use either wireless or BT and have to re-pair whichever you wanted to use (not clarifying that this is the case on a channel-by-channel basis but that as a whole, you can use both types of connections ‘simultaneously’).
Well, I got onto support to help me understand this, and we figured it out. So what I’d done was that I had been using channel 1 (the F13 key) for both BT and Wireless, and a channel can only take one signal pairing. So I kept changing it on channel 1, not realising that these keys work for BOTH wireless and BT (initially I thought they were for BT only and that the USB connection was somehow separate, so the documents didn’t really make this clear to me).
So I mange to then assign one channel to my wireless USB receiver, while having 2 more free for Bluetooth connections.
Now I can use my keyboard in boot mode, while still retaining whatever bluetooth connections I had on the other channels (F14/F15).

Lovely keyboard – maybe the best and most ergonomic I have ever owned. It makes the keyboard that Apple ships with an iMac look cheap and tacky in comparison to this Logitech MX Keys for Mac keyboard. Key travel and feel is 10/10/ Backlighting is a brilliant for working in low-light conditions. The keyboard has proximity sensors so that the keys light up just before you fingers touch them when the backlight has turned off. Battery life is so far about four weeks with 2 out of the 3 bars on the battery indicator showing as filled. What’s not to like? Well …
If your Mac is a desktop Mac (say an iMac as mine is) and it has FileVault encryption turned on (as I do), you are going to have a problem and it is this … when your Mac boots you have to supply your password. You cannot avoid this – it is required so that FileVault cannot be bypassed or disabled if your Mac is stolen. Sadly, at the login prompt the Logitech keyboard simply will not connect to Bluetooth to allow you to type in a password. It will connect after the password has been correctly typed and the Mac has booted, but, at the login screen the Logitech keyboard just isn’t connected to Bluetooth correctly. To get around this either type the password on your old Apple keyboard, but that’s a bit non-optimal as the whole point was to get rid of the old Apple keyboard. Alternatively install the wireless dongle that ships with the Logitech keyboard. This will mean you will need to have an unused USB-A port on your Mac. You will also need to download and install and run the “Logitech Unifying Software” from Logitech’s website. Note that this is different to the Logi Options application that is also downloaded from Logitech’s website but which is used to set up and configure the keyboard itself. The “Logitech Unifying Software” is not mentioned anywhere in the documentation I received with my keyboard and it was only luck that I saw a reference to it online when trying to install the dongle and getting it to work. However, plug in the dongle, run the unifying software and pair the keyboard following the on-screen instructions and suddenly everything works when booting on a FileVault enabled desktop Mac. Logitech really should make this problem and its resolution a little bit more widely known and/or easy for a consumer to find.
Summary – lovely keyboard. A great addition to my desktop setup.
