This phone greatly outperforms what you’d expect for pricepoint. It’s equipped with plenty of ram and processing power. Cameras are excellent, and it has a very large amount of storage. Setup was painless and very straightforward. No complaints at all – highly recommended.
This is a great phone if you want to spend very little money compared to other well known brands. Feels great in your hand, simple to use and the camera is brilliant. Over all this Motorola phone gets 5 stars from me.
Nice phone. The battery lasts for at least a couple of days with normal use. The phone feels well made and it upgraded to Android 14 after a couple of weeks. Not taken too many photos yet but the ones I have have turned out well. Overall very good value for a 5g phone.
All packaged properly and undamaged. Phone stopped working properly when I rang people. Recipient could hear me but I couldn’t hear them. All okay again after reset but unsure whether this is a fault with this phone or a one off.
Easy set up and transfer from Redmi Note 8t. Does everything I need and seems great value for a budget phone. Shipped with Android 13 so not sure if/ when upgrade to 14.
Fairly quick charging and good battery life. Camera ok for me.
Only issue so far is will only cast to Chromecast.
Plenty memory and SD card slot.
Sound is ok, not sure what Dolby Atmos brings.
All in all I was not disappointed and would recommend this phone on admittedly few days use
I’m past the age of getting excited by new phones and have stuck with Samsung for years because I know how to work them. However the price of this Motorola and its large memory tempted me to give it a try as memory issues were the reason I replaced my Samsungs every year. I’m so glad I did! This was the easiest setup I’ve had for a phone yet.
It looks good, though aesthetics aren’t my priority. The real standout is how quick it is. It has everything I needed: NFC, large storage and a decent camera too. A fantastic choice for the price!
After many years with an iPhone – I last changed my handset 8 years ago – I finally jumped ship and switched to this amazing value for money Moto G54 5G.
It’s an impressive package for not a lot of money, including rapid charging (with a charger in the box), the ability to expand its already generous storage using a mini SD card, a decent camera and long battery life, plus good reception and quality on calls.
The only gripe is just one update to Android 14 is supported – but that’s less of a worry when the purchase price is as low as this.
No regrets at all in switching to this great value mobile phone.
Have been using a Motorola G7 for the last 5 years but it was starting to show its age. Decided to update to the G54 after looking at various models. It does everything I need from a smartphone – emails, browser, banking and making calls – at a more affordable price than some tech heavy alternatives. The battery life is good and the screen nice and sharp. I don’t do games but streaming video is absolutely no problem.
Fingerprint reader works well and is better positioned on the side rather than on the back like the G7. Phone calls are ok but do drop out on occasion at home but I think this is more to do with us being on the edge of the network provider’s reach. Outdoors is no problem and the G54 smoothly switches to 5G.
Mine hasn’t yet updated to Android 14 – as have some others – but I live in hope Motorola will sort this soon.
All in all a very good purchase at a reasonable price.
Received this today, replacement for my wife’s phone. Have it set up in 2 hours all apps etc. recovered from old phone. Its light, lovely screen( don’t let anyone tell you because it’s LCD it’s “dark, no colours”.. it’s really vivid as is the supposedly weak camera! Easy to use, fits beautifully in one hand for use and even with some easily removable bloatware, has everything you need on it. Almost stock android… Lovely and light and feels solid in the hand. Great for the price…came 60% charged, not a sign of taking fingerprints on the back and no lags in apps or switching screens. Highly recommend it…
I bought this after I dropped my Realme phone, smashing its screen! Did some research, and came up with this. Realme phones have gone up in price somewhat (my old phone was great), so I looked elsewhere. I’d owned a very good Moto phone before my Realme phone, which I’d handed on to my son, so I know Motorola phones are good.
This is a fabulous phone. Loads of storage. 5G. Battery life is excellent. Charges fairly quickly. Great screen. Some people have criticised the camera, but I think it’s taking great photos. My only criticism is that I can’t put two SIMs in it, but I very rarely need to do that, so it’s no big deal. There is a slot for a microSD card for even more storage. I would definitely recommend this phone. It is fantastic value at around 170 when I bought it.
Came back to Moto after five happy years with a Sony mid range phone. Had previously had an excellent mid range Moto phone for a similar period of time. I run the phone on 4G/5G Sky Mobile network.
Reviews on numerous respected sites mentioned how good this phone is at the price point or indeed at much higher prices you are hard put to macth the spec. Don’t be fooled into thinking this is a budget phone.
I have had it for two months and it does not remotely disappoint. I am able to keep apps that I only use oocasionally but are so handy when I do need them. Everything runs very smoothly. It has just upgraded itself to Android 14, all good stuff.
I use everything from Microsoft 365 through fitness and finance apps, music composition apps, project management, mindmapping, study apps all the normal email, browser etc. Music in standard and High Resolution. Videos play well.
I find the camera responsive and good quality but I use an SLR for serious photos I intend to enlarge so to be fair there will be better cameras out there on the 500 plus level phones. Also I gather it may lack some capability for more serious gamers (which I am not).
I am a musician and wondered if the sound playback would match the quality of my Sony but judging by the playback through bluetooth on my HiFi tuner amp this phone is excellent. It’s pretty good through its own stereo speakers as well.
I really am genuinely delighted with this and thankful I wasn’t tempted into a “higher quality” phone on a contract which might well have cost me many hundreds for little – or no – better quality than this fabulous Moto.
You can see I am a fan and, in case you wonder, this is a genuine review from a happy user. Highly recommended.
This phone is super impressive when it comes to value for money. It’s hard to find anything that matches what’s on offer here in this price range, especially in the UK. The phone arrived in a compact box with a usb c charging lead but no charging adapter, which is fine, most of us already have a suitable one. The UK versions don’t come with a case either, so it’s really just the phone and the cable in the box. The phone looks nice, especially the vegan leather back option offers something different than every other phone. The frame is made of plastic and the front is glass of course. It’s a solid built and it’s comfortable holding it. I have to say these specs are amazing, the 8gb of ram is plenty and the 256gb storage matches many top of the range phones so it’s certainly nice to have in a sub 200 phone. On top of this you can use a micro sd card up to a whopping 1tb if you want to. The specs are impressing in other areas too, like the screen which has 1080p+ resolution and 90Hz refresh rate – again a rare thing for this much money. I ran some synthetic benchmarks and I was quite surprised to see that the moto g54 matches the performance of flagship phones from 2020 which is impressive to say the least. Where it fell behind was the gpu tests where it wasn’t as powerful, so that’s bad news for serious gamers, but casual gamers should be ok. The phone comes with android 13 out of the box and the upgrade to android 14 is guaranteed, however no more major android versions after that. The phone will get security updates until September 2026 based on motorola’s official site. It’s promised to be bi-monthly security updates, but that’s not quite true…the g54 came out in September 2023 and the latest security update available at the time of writing (May 2024) is of Dec 2023. So it’s not perfect, but it’s not worse than competitors in this price segment. The camera is a pretty important feature for almost everybody and my experience is that the phone can take decent photos, but they look quite processed. The photos are sharp, but in an artificial way. For me this is not a problem as I only use it as a work phone to take photos of jobs done and for that it’s perfect, but it doesn’t take natural looking nice photos as more expensive phones can. Performance is great in real life, although I didn’t install many apps on mine. I only ever notice some stuttering when launching the camera, or gallery, but after a few seconds this stuttering disappears and the phone is good to go. Unfortunately there were some bloatware preinstalled on the phone but luckily all of them are removable. There is some degree of splash resistance but no official IP rating, it’s still better than nothing. The battery is huge, 5000mAh, again a flagship worthy number, and it last days for me with very light use. Even with heavier usage, it should get anybody through a day I think. Charging is not very fast, but I don’t mind to live with some compromises to get a cheap phone. I think motorola struck the perfect balance with cutting corners and offering a low price with the g54. You get an excellent screen that is on par with 500+ phones, enough RAM and plenty of storage. Big battery and good performance compliments the package. What is sacrificed is more major android upgrades, and the speed at which security updates arrive. The camera is decent for the money but won’t be for everyone. Charging is slow too. All in all it’s a really good value for money phone and I can only recommend it.
If you want to buy a cheap,
budget phone which is not particularly crippled in any way, look no further.
Lenovo as an owner of the Motorola brand is doing the better job with Motorola
than with the Lenovo itself.
It has 8GB RAM, 256GB ROM,
up to 1TB micro SD card support,
NFC, Bluetooth, WiFi, headphone jack
and more than enough for the price.
It’s just a shame that in the UK is not officially available the Power Edition of this phone.
The differences:
12 GB of RAM,
6000 mAh battery,
very slightly higher weight and thickness of the phone, 33W charging, and IT’S EVEN CHEAPER.
But what can we do, if it’s not available here.
If we’re fair and comparing this phone to the same, or very similar price category,
you can not buy a better phone right now for 149, the nearest, very slightly better is 199,
what is one quarter more, and if you want to go higher, it’s at least plus another 100.
This phone can be quite fast with the right settings and using.
Without one hundred apps
running on the background,
or without the unrealistic expectations,
because obviously,
it’s not an ultimate ultra cutting-edge flagship
and somewhere the edges were cut,
but overall, it’s an amazing phone.
No bloatware like in the cheapest phones elsewhere, just clean Android,
running smoothly and without any bugs.
It’s even easy to find the accessories as the cases
and screen protectors,
what is unusual for the phones in this price category.
On YouTube are videos about the settings and “tweaking” this phone,
so you can get maximum for your money.
I just strongly recommend changing the animations in the Developer Options menu
to 0.5x,
I’m doing this with all of my phones for ages already and it’s much faster.
So tap seven times on the build number,
it will unlock the Developer Options
and there find
Window animation scale,
Transition animation scale
and
Animator duration scale
and all of them set up to .5x.
Apart from the animations,
there are also other things to change
in the Developer Options to speed up the phone.
Switch on:
Enable Wi-Fi verbose logging,
Wi-Fi scan throttling,
NFC stack debug log,
Force 4x MSAA,
Force allow apps on external,
Force activities to be resizable,
Enable non-resizable in
Multi-window,
Don’t keep activities
and Standard limit.
Standard limit is about twenty processes running on the background,
so it’s enough for 95% situations.
Occasionally,
some apps or settings will tell you that you need to switch this off to keep them working smoothly.
Just two categories of people can be disappointed.
The hard-core players,
because it’s not a gaming device,
but you can still play the games,
just with the lower resolution.
The second category are the photographers,
because the cameras are not the best.
But it can be improved
with the future software update.
If we’re not expecting the 1,300 level for 149,
there is no any serious problem with this phone.
The only bad thing is the Motorola’s update policy.
The Android 14 is finally available and it’s a huge difference in speed between the previous Android 13, and the current Android 14.
It’s much faster now, than ever before.
If you want to buy the phone with the better update policy, it’s at least the Samsung Galaxy A54 5G, and higher,
but it’s at least 100 more.
So I can recommend this phone for sure.
I bought this Moto G54 after reading a number of positive reviews and owning a Moto G9 Play for 3 years – I have not been disappointed. These are the pros and areas for development with this handset –
Pros
– Looks/feels well made for the price point – I like the vegan leather back finish.
– Slim profile for a phone at this price, the screen goes almost up to the edge with a minimal bezel.
– The screen quality is good (Full HD/120Hz) and bright, plus colours are vibrant but natural. Text is clear and sharp and the screen can be read in most sunlight.
– Generous memory, 8GB plus 256GB onboard plus a Micro SD card expansion slot for up to 1TB.
– Motorola hasn’t messed about with Android 13 except for including a few games that are easily deleted and the extra Moto app is useful.
– Call quality in both directions and network reception are good.
– Charging is fast enough, battery life is a good average from the 5000mAh cell – the phone easily lasts a 24-hour day with a few calls, internet browsing and viewing of emails. A fast charger is included in the box.
– Camera quality (front and back) is very reasonable for the price point plus the phone copes with low light quite well and has optical stabilisation built in. The macro is effective too.
– Sound quality is very reasonable and features Dolby Atmos.
– Headphone socket is provided – old school but useful!
Areas for development
– Limited choice of pre-loaded wallpapers/ringtones.
– Audio could go louder when used with corded earphones.
– Water repellent but not to a stated “IP” standard.
– Nothing much else, especially at the price!
I haven’t included wireless charging above, as although desirable, no other phones in this category (to my knowledge) offer the feature – you have to go up quite a few tiers until it’s likely to be included.
Overall, a really good value phone with decent performance.
Update – the phone received an over the air update to Android 14 recently and is functioning well.
This phone greatly outperforms what you’d expect for pricepoint. It’s equipped with plenty of ram and processing power. Cameras are excellent, and it has a very large amount of storage. Setup was painless and very straightforward. No complaints at all – highly recommended.
