I already own the NEEWER Z1 flash for my Sony a7iv, an upgrade from a very simple Godox flash for when I was dabbling in some wedding photography. I’m using this one as an off-camera flash as this unit is compatible with my wireless trigger.
There’s functions on this flash I may never use, notably the additional portait pop out flash, but I can see the merit of that feature and I’m sure it’s worthwhile for portrait photographers.
I can spam this flash for a while with 6-10fps shots, handy for BIF at an aviary I like to visit.
I basically only use my flash in TTL mode so won’t explore much else of what it has to offer.
I can confirm this also works with the v1 & v2 wireless flash modules from NEEWER as I have both.
Impressive features in a compact package. Offering TTL compatibility, wireless control, and a soft roundhead design, it’s a versatile tool for photographers. With adjustable power output and high-speed sync capabilities, it delivers professional results in various shooting conditions. Overall, the NEEWER Z2-N is a reliable and user-friendly flash option for Nikon users seeking quality lighting solutions.

With a robust 76Ws output, it ensures excellent lighting for a variety of shooting conditions. The flash comes with a dome diffuser, enhancing its versatility by providing soft, even light distribution.
This speedlite boasts an upgraded user interface, making it user-friendly and efficient. The TTL/M TCM toggle key allows quick switching between modes, while the two modeling lamps provide excellent pre-visualization of light effects. High-Speed Sync (HSS) up to 1/8000s ensures sharp images even in fast-paced scenarios.
Powered by a 7.4V/2600mAh battery, the NEEWER Z2-N delivers up to 480 full-power flashes on a single charge, demonstrating its long-lasting performance. Its great design and sturdy build make it a reliable choice for both amateur and professional photographers seeking high-quality lighting solutions.
This very versatile Speedlight from Neewer I think is exceptional, versatile and powerful. It can be used on camera or off, triggered by a flash trigger. It has a handy fill light function and the flash head can be rotated and directed as required to suit the scene, helping to create images that do not show a flash has been used.
It’s a fast performer and offers a plethora of shooting modes that can be set manually or by the camera in TTL mode. The battery is substantial and can supply enough energy for lengthy shoots depending on the settings of course. I think its an outstanding piece of equipment that is great value.

Delivering a powerful 76Ws output, this speedlight ensures consistent lighting with a range of advanced functionalities. The inclusion of a dome diffuser and upgraded UI enhances user experience, while the TTL/M TCM toggle key provides seamless switching between modes. Powered by a 7.4V/2600mAh battery, it offers remarkable longevity with up to 480 full-power flashes. Ideal for photographers seeking reliability and versatility, the NEEWER Z2-N is a top-tier choice.
The NEEWER Z2-N 2.4G TTL Round Head Flash Speedlite for Nikon is an impressive addition to my photography gear. It features a clear display and a simple switch between manual and automatic modes, making it user-friendly. The build quality is great, and it feels solid in hand.
While it could have been made a little smaller, the performance more than compensates for this minor issue. The 1.5-second flash recycle time is excellent, allowing for quick consecutive shots. Overall, this speedlite offers outstanding performance and ease of use, making it a valuable tool for any photographer.
NEEWER make some pretty good photographic equipment and this follows in that tradition. They remind me of UGREEN in terms of quality and price; perfectly capable products that perform as they claim, competitively priced.
Firstly the build is solid and it all feels rather premium. With some speed lights, actually with most speed lights the head will drop down if you’re using a larger diffuser but not so with this one. Oddly though it doesn’t feel like they’ve made it out of iron girders to achieve that. It’s not the smallest speed light around but given the light output that’s to be expected and it’s an awful lot of light for the money.
The rear screen is a sensible size, with a clear resolution to work with at a glance. The UI is intuitive and just makes sense in use.
Light output is impressive, the 76w easily overpowers daylight with the high speed sync (HSS) which incidentally boasts up to 1/8,000th of a second. The high output power is handy when using diffusion because they not only soften the light but lessen the overall output too, so the ability of this to punch through those factors is welcomed.
The included USB charger is handy and fills the battery in about 3.5 hours. The 12v charger for your car is a nice inclusion for when you’re on the move.
Recycling times are quoted at 1.5seconds for full flash, obviously quicker for when you’re not using full power modes; reduce the flash intensity and they recycling much quicker, some almost instantly. The 1.5 second time is about right too.
The modelling lights are 2w each, one being mounted on the flash head itself with the other in front of the flash. They’re handy both for dark situations where you’re trying to bounce light around to diffuse the subject and the front facing light allow you to get crisp, sharp focusing.
The zoom range isn’t something I’ve used a great deal so far but it’s quoted at 28-105mm. There’s an automatic mode or you can override that manually of course.
The flash duration ranges from 1/180th – 1/20,000th second. That obviously depends on the output power of course with the 1/180th of a second being maximum output power.
Honestly overall I’ve been impressed with this speed light. It packs a big punch for the money. It’s not the smallest around but it compensates for that by being very capable. The UI is pleasant to navigate through. NEEWER have built themselves a deserved reputation for fielding some decent products at reasonable prices and as I said at the beginning of this review this speed light fits with the rest of their products
When this was offered to me via the Vine program I was initially hesitant as I’d just picked up a pair of Godox Speedlites for my Canon Sony and Fuji systems and rarely use my Nikon camera, but as this was sent to me for free after 10 minutes of humming and aaahing I thought why not
And boy am I happy I did.
As mentioned earlier I rarely use my Nikon these days and it spends most of it’s time on loan to my son, as such I have been soldiering on with an SB-900 which I was always happy with as it did what I needed.
This is on another level, I won’t go into all the technical specs as I am still learning myself, you can read the listing for that, but two things that stand out for me and, this won’t be big news to everyone, is the dedicated switch to quickly go from M mode to TTL and the very fast recycling.
I’m still meeting to grips with the LCD menu system though it seems fairly simple, though I haven’t had occasion to shoot professionally with it yet so it is on the back. burner as I’m still on the new Godox learning curve.
The video illustrates – poorly – recycle speeds.
Would I buy this with my own money?
Definitely, though it probably deserves a better camera than my current D7200, I’m looking at you Zf
As a keen photographer, I’m always looking for reliable, user-friendly gear, and the NEEWER Z2-N 2.4G TTL Round Head Flash Speedlite for Nikon fits the bill perfectly. Here’s what stands out:
Fantastic User Interface
The standout feature of this flash is its user interface. The display is clear and easy to read, and the controls are intuitive. Switching between automatic (TTL) and manual modes is a breeze, thanks to the simple side button. This makes it incredibly easy to adjust settings on the go, saving time and reducing hassle during shoots.
Powerful Lighting
With a 76Ws output, the flash delivers strong and consistent lighting. The round head provides even, natural light, and the adjustable angles allow for flexible lighting setups, whether you need to bounce light off a wall or direct it straight at your subject.
Wireless Convenience
The built-in wireless system is another great feature. It allows you to control multiple flashes from a distance (up to 328 feet), making complex lighting setups straightforward and efficient.
Quick and Long-lasting
The flash recycles quickly, in just 1.5 seconds, and the battery is impressive, providing 480 full power flashes. Plus, it comes with a spare battery, ensuring you won’t run out of power during critical moments.
High Compatibility
The magnetic flash head is compatible with a range of accessories and fits many Nikon cameras, enhancing its versatility and making it a valuable addition to any photographer’s kit.
Conclusion
The NEEWER Z2-N is a top-notch flash with a fantastic user interface that makes it incredibly easy to use. It’s powerful, versatile, and reasonably priced, making it a great investment for both amateur and professional photographers. Highly recommended!
This is an excellent flash unit. The light is very bright and powerful, but also soft and diffused. This has been especially good for portraits where it makes the subjects look more flattering by masking the harsh lines of wrinkles.
I’ve used the light in indoor low-light conditions and it does a great job of illuminating the area, negating the use of a soft box for quick jobs. I found it really helped in outdoor sunny conditions too by helping to balance the shadows and, again, making the subjects look more flattering by removing the harsh lines. This reduced the amount of post processing I needed to do.
The dome diffuser has been a great feature, allowing me to spread light evenly on the subject without creating harsh highlights or shadows. It very easy to install and remove in seconds.
The flash recycling time is fast and as stated (1.5 seconds).
I’ve had some issues with colour balance from speed lights (typically making the subjects look redder), but fortunately this doesn’t seem to have any issues.
The supplied battery is very good. It lasts a long time.
The flash unit is very easy to install on my camera and set up is very simple. The supplied instructions are easy to understand and outline the features and the whole device is intuitive to use.
The screen is bright, clear and easy to read.
The pouch and charger are also good quality.
Overall, I think this is a great speed light, especially for the price and compared to the leading brand that it’s replicating.
