Wasn’t sure if I was going to enjoy this but it was great with a wonderful cast. The image and sound quality were absolutely fine. It didn’t make much sense but who cares, it was a fun film (and very hot and sweaty one even though apparently filmed in February and everyone was shivering most of the time, it didn’t show, not to me anyway).
The booklet was ok. The documentaries were good but there were not a huge amount of extras – no discussion of the restoration or music etc but I enjoyed both of them.

Love the slipcover, that is such a good selling point.

Golden Review Award: 10 From Our UsersA great film plenty of action full of suspense creepy music watching the people’s faces show fear as death approaches them. Of course compared to today’s computer imagining it is pathetic film, but for it’s area a great film a good family film too.
However. I remember one evening back in about 1955-56 with my mum and sister watching a creepy play on an old 12 inch black & white up right TV. It was called the same name as this film, and about aliens who invaded the earth via radio waves I think. The one thing that sticks in my mind was as a door slowly creep ed open a hand like object slide into view. just at that moment a slight wind blew in to our house and made the passage door creek and either opened or shut but it made all of us jump out of our skin loll. The film was soon made just after that play. i was around 10 or 11 years old.
As I said a brilliant film for it’s area mid 50’s good acting to by Peter Cushing, Christoper Lee, Patrick Allen, mediocre performance by Jane Merrow but other than that i once again say a great film to watch.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersAs a great fan of the beautiful Jane Merrow since my early teenage years I couldn’t be without this excellent print of a classic sci-fi movie. Throw in Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee for good measure together with stalwarts Patrick Allen and the lovely Sarah Lawson, well, you simply can’t go wrong in my opinion. I had to have this one and I was not disappointed.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersAfter viewing “Island Of Terror’ a few evenings before I was totally in the mood for some more 60’s/70’s sci-fi movie stuff and especially with the great Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee.

In all fairness this isn’t a bad movie, but (in my opinion) it was a poor copy of thei 1966 movie ‘The Island Of Terror’ which had steadier pace and tention, plus the aliens were a lot more animated and threatening than in this one despite looking almost the same. As horror goes this movie wasn’t quite so hot…

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI like this low budget British sci-fi, it’s got original monsters , a very top notch cast and the yummy Jane Merrow.” Island of Terror” is a very similar film but I think this one just nudges that one into second place.

Golden Review Award: 15 From Our UsersDespite the many negative views I have read about NOTBH, I have to say that I think it is a great 1960’s film. The film has the greats of British cinema – Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee and Patrick Allen, which is a major plus. The story is about an island off the British coast that suddenly experiences a heat wave in the dead of winter. The action is mainly within the local pub and one of the residents believes it is caused by an alien invasion. I actually rate this film as one of my favourites and I am well please with the quality of the Blu-ray. I bought the DVD some years ago but the quality was a bit too washed out and required the brightness to be turned down. They have thankfully restored it to a far better quality and I can enjoy it again and again. Great stuff.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersAs per usual Amazon won’t allow me to write a separate review for this 88 FILMS BLURAY – because I wrote one for the Odeon release of 2014. SO….The 88 FILMS release 29 JULY 2024…. An excellent transfer 16.9 ration. Excellent picture, good sound and Subtitles (the reason I purchased this version). Planet made some extraordinay cheap but entertaing SciFi type films and this is a prime example. Filmed on location somewhere with the pub being the main studio set, the pace seldom lets up. The plot is bonkers and the monsters are just about the worst ever – but the actors make up for any faults. Lee is powerful in a slightly unusual role. He is extremely rude to everyone. Cushing is, for once, completely wasted, and probably did his bit in 3 days…but, he is Cushing, and together with a strong support cast (Allan/Lawson/Merrow.Heathcote/Lucas/Cope) they keep the film very watchable.. Do watch the lovely interview with the 82? rear old Merrow – utterly charming and still so attractive…….NOW HERE IS MY ORIGINAL REVIEW of several years ago for the Odeon release!!…Just a quick few words about this OEG (Odeon Films) release 2014. A good 16.9 transfer (fills my whole screen), good sound and colour. Extras here are a commentary and interview with Lee. I love this film whilst acknowledging it isn’t the greatest Sci Fi ever!! A crazy plot, hopeless “aliens”, and very dramatic acting (except by Cushing who is very relaxed), as well as a very sexy if hysterical at times, Jane Merrow, (she falls over a lot) and reliables Ken Cope and Thomas Heathcote, not forgettings Mrs Patrick Allen, all join in the fun, and present a most enjoayable 90 mins. Just don’t expect too much seriousness.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersFun and engaging ensemble piece starring peter Cushing and Christopher Lee. The conviction of the cast goes a long way to making this sic-fi whodunnit work. If you like Hammer and Amicus films this is a slight diversion from Gothic and slasher horror but the cast will see you through. The commentary is class with Christopher Lee and Pip and Jane Baker the writers. Also the Blu-ray version is very sharp and clear.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersThis is all pretty cheesy, and the print’s faded, but if you’re a fan of ’60s British horror and sci-fi, you won’t be disappointed. The cast is populated with stalwarts of the genre, even if the great Peter Cushing’s appearance is more of a cameo than a starring role.

I always found this one to have great atmosphere. The extras on this DVD release are top-quality, too.
