They’re not twisted pairs internally, which means the cable can easily be kinked or damaged. But, being cat 5 it’s not designed for constant movement or harsh environments. Does the job for cameras, just lay it in conduit if it’s outdoors.
I bought this Reolink brand of cable to go with my new Reolink cctv equipment.
Things I didn’t like:
It is only CAT 5. Really low spec by modern standards. You can see what is inside from my pictures. The green wires didn’t seem to be twisted together at all, and the orange wires, only just twisted. The conductors inside are made of stranded copper, so this is only intended as patch cable.
The cable came tightly FOLDED not coiled (see my picture). I hung it up for 24 hours and the kinks softened a little, but it was still very “kinky”.
Although the cable is supplied with a plug on each end, you really need to cut one end off in order to feed the cable through the various small holes during installation. Replacing the ends wasn’t easy. Because the inner wires are not made from solid copper they are not stiff enough to be easily pushed into an RJ45 connector. It can be done, just not easy.
Things I liked:
The cables work with my Reolink cctv, and that is really all than matters. Hopefully they will also work outdoors(???) Surely, Reolink expect part of the cctv cable to live outdoors.
18 Meters was plenty long enough for my normal sized house.
The cables are flexible and easy to coil around inside my Reolink junction boxes.
