Has turned my One+ Ryobi trimmer into a much more powerful tool. Am now trimming with ease areas that my trimmer fitted with wire just wouldn’t touch. Other advantage is changing the blades is quick and easy.
Yes I would recommend.
As others have said this blade system should be supplied with the trimmer.
These are a lot better than I expected. They are happily chewing through long, thick grass, weeds and nettles. No issues with them and I only broke one when I hit a solid stone wall. Can’t recommend enough
These are so much better than the line type strimmer heads. They don’t keep snapping and you can actually see the cutting arc. The adapter is easy to fit and it’s even easier to change the blades. Be aware though, that you can damage trees with it. But as I said before, you can see the cutting arc, so you should be okay.
I bought this to try instead of wire for my strimmer. I’m impressed by the cut that it gives but the blades are plastic and wear quite quickly so it won’t give much more longevity over a wire.
After reading other reviews and watching some YouTube videos I decided to get the RAC155 to compliment my strimmer for thicker jobs – and I am glad that I did.
Like many, I have access to a petrol strimmer that can have a brush cutter blade attached in favour of the string line. It’s a good brand (Hyundai, it’s powerful, nothing phases it too much. The problem with it is the weight for prolonged jobs, the noise and the heat produced from the engine make it unpleasant to use.
You can’t really use a petrol strimmer easily for fine, trimming jobs and edging. You need a light weight unit for that, but then you can’t ideally use that lightweight strimmer for heavier duty jobs which is where these blades come in perfectly to fill the gap.
I bought these blades to work on a thick overgrown bank which a beech hedge sits on. The bank are become overgrown not been cut this season so was thick with various grass types as well as brambles, moss and dead grass. The Ryobi strimmer would not of coped just using the string line therefore I purchase the blades and it worked a dream. I lost one serrated blade when I hit a tree branch hidden under the grass which snapped at the connection point. I also lost another blade that didn’t snap, I was able to put back on again
I was able to complete two sides of the bank with two aftermarket batteries, but how do I have been using a Ryobi battery or one of their high-performance batteries? I suspect it would’ve done both on a single charge a five amp hour or above.
Highly recommend for anybody who has a compatible machine that doesn’t want to buy an additional Ryobi brush cutter. This provides much better value for money and flexibility.
Well i put these through their paces attacking a 20ft overgrown strip with thistles, nettles, thick grasses…etc that was close to the house wall and a path that i couldn’t see the edge of because the mud and grass had overlapped it.
I showed no mercy as i wanted to test the strimmer, the cord and the blades.
The blades may have broken if I’ve accidently clipped the wall or path, something i was trying to avoid as i didn’t want to deliberately break anything: but they could’ve also broken on the thistle stem as it took a few blade rotations before they cut through, it is difficult to tell what may have caused the blade damage as the safety cover is big so you cant be precise in the placement of the tool until you start strimming and it begins to show where its cutting/edging.
All in all the blades performed well, and are extremely simple to install on the head and although i cant be 100% sure what caused the damage, I still have my doubts about the “Heavy Duty” Label of the blades.
I bought this item for 10 but i think 8 is a more reasonable price tag.
Hope this helps, happy strimming…
This is a very good, perhaps even essential addition to the Ryobi strimmer range. I have the Ryobi OLT1832, which by itself is a good, lightweight, but not particularly powerful strimmer – capable on its own mainly of light grass trimming and not much else. Trying to cut through any deeper grass or undergrowth with this strimmer would leave you disappointed.
With the addition of this blade fitting, which is very easy to fit (and to replace blades where necessary), the strimmer has now become much more useful and can now cut through medium sized brambles, knee-high grass and bracken with no issues. I’d say it’s turned a 3 star battery-powered strimmer into a 4.5 star product.
The only downside to this product is that it’s possible for the blades to detach themselved from the disc during use, which is inconvenient and potentially quite dangerous. Whilst the blades are usually easy to locate (since they’re brightly coloured – although for this purpose could be orange or a colour less similar to grass/weeds) and re-attach, I feel that a better mechanism for securing the blades to the disc would definitely be beneficial and that’s the only reason for giving this a 4- rather than a 5-star review.
