The SMALLRIG Thumb Grip and hotshoe cover arrived professionally packed in a branded cardboard box.
In the box you get the main grip, a shutter release button and a short instruction leaflet.
The unit is finished to the usual Smallrig high quality and machining is of premier quality.
The thumb grip slots into the hotshoe recess firmly and adds a nice comfortable thumb rest while also functioning as a protector for the hotshoe contacts.
The inclusion of a press fit shutter release button adds another functional yet stylish upgrade to your camera.
Quite expensive but certainly adds additional function and style to your Fujifilm X100.
This is a well made thump grip and I was looking forward to applying it to my Panasonic as I thought the fit for the hot shoe at least would be universal. However, it wont fit on a Panasonic hot shoe (or Pentax) so I can only assume Fuji is a slightly different size to other hot shoes. Its slightly too big for other makes of cameras.
So I will still give it 4 stars as it appears well made, but make sure you buy the specific fit for your camera or you may not be able to use it.
Although advertised as for the X100V / X100VI, I decided to give this set a go for use with my other Fujifilm cameras. As always with SmallRig gear, it feels well made.
The box contains a thumb grip (the copy supplied for review was silver but black is also available) and a shutter release button.
The tumb grip helps provide a comfortable resting spot for your thumb when handling a smaller camera such as the X70 (although using it interferes with folding out the X70’s screen, not something that would be an issue with the non-tilting screen of the X100V or X100VI).
The red shutter release button will fit X-T series cameras with a screw thread in the shutter release. As with the thumb grip, this can make the camera more comfortable to use, especially if you have larger hands.
Overall this is a nice little set of accessories for your Fuji cameras that it will fi
This is an excellent fit on my Fuji X100V and feels great quality. Despite it’s small size it really improves the grip on the camera making it feel much more secure in my hand. The silver colour is also an excellent match and you wouldn’t know it was a third party accessory without looking at the logo (which is tastefully engraved on the back). The included shutter release button is an added bonus; although I’m not particularly keen on the colour it is very tactile and the button still feels very responsive.
Being honest, I love this as much for the fact that it looks cool (well, both items do) as I do for any extra convenience.
But that said, the thumb grip does make for a definitely better holding experience. The camera feels more solid in the hand and the grip doesn’t get in the way of the rear dial that’s just underneath it. That’s a big plus.
I do like the special engraving on this particular thumb grip – adds another layer of aesthetics. Doesn’t change how it works, but it sure looks cool!
The red shutter button just looks cool and it does give a nice tactile feel. I think it feels better than the naked shutter button release, but that is just a personal taste thing. Again, if I’m 100% honest, I love it mostly because it looks cool 😀
I’ve had my Fuji x Pro 1 for a while and hadn’t thought of getting one of these thumb grips. I didn’t think I’d need one or that it’ll be of much use.
The item is high quality and excellent craftsmanship, and looks OEM type of gear. It slid into the flash gun bracket perfect and snug. I like the slim rubbery pads on the thumb grip, which offers protection for my camera. The thumb grip worked well with my wrist strap and camera cage handgrip.
Holding the camera with the thumb, actually felt much secure and more hands on, when I’m using it. One big help, is I no longer accidentally nudge the exposure compensation dial, as the thumb grip is in the way.
The item looks smart and I think its great value for money.
The shutter button screwed on nice and firm, and doesn’t easily unscrew. The extra surface help me give a nice good press, with my thick finger.
Very happy with this item.
Smallrig are doing themselves a massive disservice here, whilst this was made for the X100VI hence the top logo, I decided to order anyway as the grip I had on my X-Pro 1 which was supposedly for that camera proved to be woefully lacking, far too short to be usable unless you had massive hands.
And as you can see, this fits perfectly and feels wonderful to hold, despite being almost twice the size of the one I removed it doesn’t obscure any of the controls and makes handling much more comfortable.
I can live with 1934, plus I still think this is the better camera 😉
Really nicely built thumb grip for the camera.
Fits into the flash shoe mount easily and securely, has a little rubber pad underneath to not damage the contacts.
Well made and solid so will last well. Nice little bonus soft shutter button too.
