Purchased this for our kitchen as we live in an apartment. Mainly for steam as a fitted extractor was going to cost 1000 ! So at this price it was worth a risk. It is brilliant for steam. Really impressed with it !
Our cooker hood extractor no longer works on ‘full power’ and will only go up to a maximum level 2 of 3 so when we have a few things on the go its not quite up to scratch. The intention is to replace it at some point but this helps to serve as a booster until then, especially when cooking things that generate a lot of steam next to a pan with oil. Our air purifiers used to kick in quickly when cooking with the smells and such even though they are in the next room however using this has all but stopped that which is good. As some others noted, its quite large but not very tall – since heat rises in order to catch the stream it did need to be raised up a bit, its no more noisy than our extractor. I feel would be good for portability, camping or something or to keep fumes away when working with solvents or similar.
The portable extractor fan is great for small kitchens. Its compact size fits perfectly on the countertop next to your cooking area. The suction power is impressive, quickly clearing smoke and odors. The touch controls are easy to use, and switching between power levels is seamless. Cleaning the filters is straightforward, ensuring the fan remains effective over time. Perfect for anyone living in an apartment or dorm.
This is perfect for my medium sized kitchen which only has a window and no extractor fan, so it can get rather steamy, very quick.
It is much larger than I thought it would be but I have got used to the size over the last few weeks. Thipps is so easy to use and makes a tremendous difference to cooking smells and steam. There are 3 settings on it so just alter it for each time you switch it on, simply access what you need.
The extractor fan is much bigger than expected.
I have given it a test run at home and found it to be very powerful. My over hob extractor isn’t that great so thought this would be a good addition, especially when cooking things like onions or curries.
The noise level is low even on the high speed setting. It is recommended to clean the filter after every use which is a bit of a nuisance.
My mobile extractor was ready to use, my partner was cooking and I was able to unpack and set up next to the fryer in seconds.
The fan is quiet but strong. I was happy with it working. I felt I could smell an improvement of the cooking smell quickly.
The mobile extractor is light and easy to put in place. It has an oil tray that removes easily.
It recommends the cleaning of the filters after each use.
I found it very good for my kitchen, I would also use it in small space cooking where I need to keep grease and smells down when cooking.
1 niggle on disassembly is the instructions say to discard one filter but it should say put to one side.
I spotted this on Vine, and thought it might be ideal for the caravan, so ordered it. It arrived very well packaged, in a strong box, in a custom polystyrene casing. The unit looks great, although in reality is much larger than I’d imagined. Inspecting it I was a little disappointed with the quality of the filter retaining ring. It’s quite brittle plastic, and there was a moulding sprue left on the ring, which never speaks well of quality control. Considering that you have to remove and wash the filters after every use (something of a faff, to be honest), you might imagine that this ring would be stronger. It springs into the locked position on two sides, and it wouldn’t surprise me if it broke at some point, and I wonder of it’s available as a spare part, and at what cost.
Switching it on for the first time, I found the suction to be quite strong, so it will draw in cooking fumes very well, and it expels the filled air out of the back, almost like a cooling fan (although not cooled, obviously). I couldn’t try it in the caravan (I’m not in it, right now!), so I tried it at home last night. I was cooking a rendang curry, and thought if anything was going to produce extractable fumes, this would. Well, there was no extracted oil in the little drawer, but there was some discoloration on the aluminium filter grille, so it must have done something. I accept that it could just be that the food didn’t cause too much in the way of oily fumes…this isn’t a criticism; it can only remove what’s in the air it sucks in.
I’m sure it will be a useful aid in the caravan, where the confined space does result in the cooker surround getting greasy due to the only “extraction” currently available being the open window above the cooker, so it will go in the caravan for the next trip out.
I did look for replacement filters for this, and couldn’t find any for this specific model, so that could be an issue for the future. They may be available, but they weren’t obvious on Amazon.
The poor quality retention ring is my only bugbear with this…otherwise, it’s a powerful, and useful extractor.
[edit] I just found the replacement filters…and they’re quite pricey at 16. But at least they’re available.
If I were to have one real criticism it is the marketing photos are with small and low pans. This is a bulky unit, but it is not large. Sure my OnePot is the size of a large saucepan or stock pot, but I needed to considerably raise the fan up.
Still if you realise the size then it is an effective unit. The three speeds are noticeably different and it is nice to see the steam being pulled in. Of course if you stand behind it then you have a fan blowing at you.
It is noisy, but then so is a fixed extractor and the one in my kitchen is a lot louder and also less effective.
I am not due a fry up for a while, which will be a real test of this.
While you are supplied with two replacement filters, both are the polymer part, it really should have been one carbon and one polymer. As these are replaceable components it should have been both. Not impressed by that and really I should have knocked the score down by one as a result.
The power cable could have done with being a little longer, more of a quibble, but the design of the British plug has the cable coming out of the plug on the wrong side. It is at the top, not the bottom, and this could cause issues if you are tight on space or are using an adapter. Again part of me thinks I should knock a star off for this.
If you fully read my review you will wonder why I have scored this 5 not 3 stars, and it has been tempted to mark it down, but at its core it does work well.
